The Test for the Best is a pay per view much like the King of the Ring. It’s a tournament to crown a number 1 contender for the World title, and guarantee’s that person a title shot at our big summer event, Shockwave, which takes place in August. The first Test for the Best event took place five years ago. At that event, we save the legend, Alternativ in the Test for the Best tournament by defeating Chris Jericho in the finals. Also at that event, was The Overdrive GM, Matt Metal take on the APW Owner, Hurricane Jeff in a hell in a cell match. A match which Metal won and boosted him into stardom. And five years later, the main event will have both Hurricane Jeff and Matt Metal in it.
This year, The Test for the Best tournament started with Four quarter final matches. Victor Brander defeated Austin Daniels. Doctor Phate defeated Katrina Olivetti. Vin E Lambardo defeated Tony Blackwell, and then Justin Job and Varga Zodd fought to a double count out. With an extra spot available for the semi finals, A second chance match was created. The losers of round one, Tony Blackwell, Katrina Olivetti and Austin Daniels along with a returning former World Champ, John Green, was put in a fatal four way match in which Austin Daniels won, getting himself back in this tournament. Now with the Semi final matches announced, we will see a rematch from the quarter finals, Victor Brander takes on Austin Daniels. Can Daniels beat Victor this time, or will once again, Victor Brander come out victorious. The other Semi Finals match, we will see Doctor Phate taking on Vin E Lambardo. In a recent poll, these two we’re voted most likely to win this tournament. We all know votes mean nothing, but the pressure must be on for these two.
The Tag Team titles will be on the line at Test for the Best. Last month at Mayhem, APW crowned the first ever Tag Team champs. “Spirit” Tara Jacobs and Diana Steel defeated the team of Razor Ryan and Sabur, as well as the team of Jason Royce and the Hardcore Kid in a 3 team TLC match. From that match, Razor and Sabur fought Royce and the Kid in a Number 1 contenders match for the Tag Title and some how, the underdogs pulled out a huge upset and won the match and get to fight for the Tag Titles at Test for the Best. The two teams have been getting involved in each others matches on the last Overdrive. The tension is heating up between these two teams. Can the Underdogs pull out another upset and walk out the new APW Tag Champs?
After Sabur and Razor lost to the team of Jason Royce and The Hardcore Kid, it didn’t take long for Sabur to turn on his partner and nail him with the House of Pain after their defeat. Tired of always losing as a team and turning the blame to his former tag partner, Sabur challenged Razor to a match and his wish was granted. We may just see once and for all, who was the weaker link of the team.
Our second of three title match is next with Michael Lively defending his Overdrive title against Jake Ruby, who recently returned from short absence. Not much history between these two going into this match. Ruby earned his title shot in an impressive return match with Razor Ryan at the last Overdrive. And Lively picked up a big win over one half of the Tag champs, Diana Steel as the last show. Lively captured the Overdrive Title at the Mayhem PPV and will have to prove that his win wasn’t a fluke as this will be his first title defense against the potato farmer.
The third of three title matches is the Xtreme title match between the champ, Tony Blackwell and the challenger, John Green. A match what is being called a Barbwire match, but we can expect it to turn out like a Barbwire massacre match. This match came about at the “Second Chance Match.” Green pinned the Xtreme Champ while Austin Daniels pinned Katrina Olivetti. With both guys getting a pinfall at the same time, the fatal four way turned into a singles match between Green and Daniels. After a ref bump, Blackwell cost Green the match and this later led to this match taking place. Can Tony continue his title reign or will John Green be the first person in APW to win two different titles.
The Main Event match. No World Title match at this Pay Per View, but it doesn’t mean the Champ isn’t going to be in action. Kenny Lambardo teams up with his best friend, the president of APW, Hurricane Jeff, and they will take on Trevor Blackwell and the Overdrive General Manager, Matt Metal. Kenny and Jeff, former Tag Team Champs in the past, are back together to fight two guys that they absolutly hate. At Mayhem, Kenny somehow retained his title after Matt Metal refused to follow Jeff’s orders in calling the match in Kenny’s favor, so Jeff took actions in his own hands and helped Kenny retain the title. Metal then went on to make this match up, shocking the world. At the wedding of Kenny Lambardo and Diana Steel, everyone was waiting for the big secret to be revealed. Trevor Blackwell came out to crash the wedding, and before he could reveal the secret, we saw the Return of Twister. A man who’s wrestled with many of APW’s greats in the past. And at the Last Overdrive, with distractions from Metal and Trevor, Twister picked up his first APW win over the champ in a non title match up. Will we find out the secret that Jeff is keeping from Kenny? How will Trevor and Metal work together. Both with neck injuries and Metal haven’t stepped foot in the ring in three years. Either way, this should be an interesting match.
Also with Twister making a huge impact coming into APW, and not being booked on the show, one can only speculate just what Twister has planned for this night.
8 Action Packed exciting Matches fill up his card. A great card to kick off the summer and we can expect a lot of happen. Test for the Best comes live to you on June 29th from St. Louis Missouri. You don’t want to miss this event.
