“One, Two” a voice could be heard as well as the sound of fist hitting a punching bag. Left punch, quick jab, quick jab. “One, One” The voice repeats as Vincent could be seen punching, Left Punch, Left Punch. The man standing behind the bag could barely take the shots as he held tight. With each punch Vincent delivered the more the bag swayed the man away.
“Bring it in hard Vince!” The man yelled at the top of his lungs. I just kept focusing on the bag punching as hard as I could. One right met a left and the left came with another huge right. I just kept going, punch left, punch right, punch left, and punch right. The bag swayed heavily and my new personal trainer couldn’t hold on any longer.
“That’s good Vince!” He said with excitement handing me a towel. I wipe my face and make my way over to get a quick drink of water.
“How is the neck Vincent?” A voice asks behind me, her footsteps getting closer. “It will heal Mrs. Harrison.” I replied and turned to face her, wearing a tight black dress with some expensive hat. Cigarette holder between her fingers, she looks at me with an unpleasant eye and a bruise on her face.
I took another sip of my water and looked at her cracking my neck side to side. “I will be fine, I have been in way worse situations and came out on top. I am pretty sure that this, Young Mannie 420 guy will be to high to even focus.“ She walked up close to me while taking the final puff off her cigarette, putting it out on the ground. She stared at me and put her hand on my cheek. “Vincent, from here we move forward, I want you to become a champion at one point in your career again. So make sure that you are not only ready for Mannie, but the rest of the roster, even my brother Evan Envi.” She said and kissed my cheek. “I want what is best for you.”
“Believe me I didn’t come with you and sign with the APW if I wasn’t ready. I will go into this match with the intent of winning. What happened last week was not in my control, Michael made the pin while I was out of the ring and this time I will come into the ring with one on one, no three way bullshit. I am going to play it by the book, try to have a good wrestling match.” I said as Mrs. Harrison started to smirk a bit at the sign of confidence coming from me. “Well you work hard and you are going to get to the top, first get through Mannie.” She said and reached for another cigarette. Mrs. Harrison turned around and walked to the door.
“That’s enough chit chat champ, we have to get to work.” The trainer said as he made his way toward Vincent.
“Well Mrs. Harrison just went to get our ride and we have promos to shoot.” I said to him while opening up my gym bag on the bench. I took the towel off my neck and put it back into the bag. I pull out a fresh shirt and pants and start changing in the middle of the gym.
“Well regardless of what you think, you still need some work.” He continued on, but it honestly didn’t bother me. My body had handled much worse before and I wasn’t about to let the world forget that Vincent Pennington was not just a street fighter, but a World Champion in many type of the line Corporations.
As I step off the gym floor, my trainer Jeff follows behind turning off the lights. As we made our way through the door, I realized there were cameras everywhere and paparazzi. “Well I guess this is a good time as any.” I said to myself looking at the cameras at the bottom of the concrete steps. The all were just sitting there hounding questions at me.
“Vincent, are you ready for another night in the ring? More importantly are you ready for another meltdown?” One question got to me because it was like a joke to me. Of course I was or I wouldn’t be here working in a gym would I?
“Tomorrow night I am going to show this world that there is a new top of the line athlete on the roster, about to be born. I look forward to taking the drug addict nut case out of his misery tomorrow night. However it does seem that a bit of ego is popular here in the APW and a lot of it needs to be taken care of. Yes I am ready for the stoner and I am going to step in the ring tomorrow night and molest him in every way possible.” I go on as the paparazzi start writing down everything I say.
“Have you ever done marijuana before Vincent?” The man in the back asked above all. The question if I answered honestly, would probably jeopardize the opinion my character. walked off the steps and through the crowd, just ignoring the rest of the paparazzi. As they moved out of my way a limo drove up and the door opened. I stepped in and left my trainer there with the paparazzi to answer all the silly questions they wanted to ask…
~20 minutes later~
In a dark room all you can see is a light shining over my head and a deck of cards lay out on the table. I start to shuffle the cards and deal myself a hand onto the rough table surface.
“You know in life you are handed a deck of cards…”
“Some people get lucky and start out with aces high, later on they find out though the aces were not the winning hand. It is a misconception that many people fail to see and in life gets ignored. People don’t know if they are going to take the hand that is dealt and it be a winner. I will say that you are right people, I had a hard life and what not, but I am not crying about it. I stand a tall every day and keep pushing on. You all can say what you want, but the bottom line is 420 is going to get thrown around tomorrow night. The position for him tomorrow night is the shows jobber. ”
I shuffle the cards and keep my eyes on the cards, shuffling over and over. I turn the bottom of the cards up and make them reveal an ace to the camera.
“Some people in life like to play tricks, or do whatever necessary to win, even if it’s not legit.” I shuffle the cards once more and show the bottom of the deck to be a queen; I shuffle again and put the ace back to the bottom of the deck.
“Michael won last week, but there will come a time when he and I will get a one on one chance. His tricks won’t work when it’s just him and I. Mannie 420 guy, Well I got your game and it’s one I know how to play very well. Just know that when we get in that ring, I am coming for your head before anyone else. I want to put your through hell and I want to make sure that at the end of the night that you are not getting back up….Permanently…”
I set the cards down onto the table and cut them in half, putting each half side by side.
“Some people in life play with a cut deck, to many chances, but not enough success.”
Vincent continues to take the cards and shuffle them in his hand, eventually just throwing them over his shoulder, making a pretty nice mess behind him.
“420 Young Mannie, you play with a half deck because you smoke drugs and cloud your judgment. I was former glorious in the wrestling world and I come back to wrestling to get that back. Mannie, I don’t know you and I don’t know you probably because you aren’t anybody. Now I am not saying that you can’t eventually amount to what I have done in my career, but you have never been where I used to be. When you get into that match tomorrow night, I am going to give my all to everybody and I am going to rage through you, with intent of destroying you.”
I stand up and I look at the camera as it zooms into my face.
“You are not ready for what I am going to be bringing at you tomorrow night. You “420” will feel like a new person after this ass whooping I am going to give to you. Be ready for tomorrow night! I sure the fuck am….”
