Day four of the hunger gamesAt sunrise,
Enorbaria met up with the career pact. As the mentor of both
Cato and
Clove from district 2 there was quickly dissension in the ranks.
Enorbaria's dominating personality didn't sit well with specifically the blonde bombshell,
Glimmer.Glimmer: Who the hell died and made YOU, boss?
Enorbaria the elder and most experienced member of the careers squared up to
Glimmer and grinned displaying her signature teeth.
Enorbaria: I've been in this game less then twenty four hours and I have already taste more blood then you, little girl. What's your blood type?
Cato stepped in between the two ladies trying to diffuse the situation.
Cato: No need to get at each others throats, yet. We still have plenty of tributes to kill. Let's have a vote. For those willing to set up camp here and hunt during the night raise your hand.
Enorbaria, Clove and even
Cato raise their hands.
Glimmer gives
Cato the stink eye as she rolls her eyes and flips her hair.
Glimmer: Ugh, fine but can we least get in one kill before we hibernate?
Enorbaria looks at
Cato and then to
Glimmer with a pleasant smile.
Enorbaria: I definitely like the sound of that. I'm glad we're on the same page, aren't you?
Enorbaria offered
Glimmer a hand but she disrespectfully blew her off.
Enorbaria snarls.
Cato lead the pack through the thick forestry looking for a daytime kill. The career pack was confident in their ability, laughing and joking as they zero in on a target, any target.
Peeta Mellark: Do you hear that?
Peeta whispered to
Katniss Everdeen. Through the brush they could see the career pact coming their way and immediately begin to panic.
Peeta Mellark: Run, Katniss! Run!
The two take off running but
Peeta Mellark trips and falls alerting the Career pact of his direct location spraining his ankle in the process.
Katniss Everdeen tries to run back but
Peeta yells ''GO!'' as loud as he can and
Katniss Everdeen obliges. The career pact converges on the downed
Peeta Mellark while
Katniss Everdeen climbs a large tree to create greater distance.
Cato: Oh, look what we have here. The traitor from district 12, your death will be so unfortunate.
Cato grabs
Peeta Mellark by the throat as
Clove shakes her head in disgust.
Clove: We really liked you, Peeta. You could have been one of us but you decided to run off with that girl from district 12 and now we're going to kill you Peeta and then we're going to kill your little lover as well - how does that sound?
In the trees,
Katniss Everdeen is spotted by
Rue and
Johanna Mason who also have the career pact in their sights.
Rue whistles to
Katniss to get her attention and once she does, Johanna Mason tosses a small bottle containing a chemical she found in a cornucopia care package.
Katniss Everdeen nearly drops the small bottle but she's able to sprawl across the tree branch catch and it and hang on without falling.
Cato: You have thirty seconds to tell us why we shouldn't kill you.
Peeta Mellark: That's more then I need.
Katniss Everdeen reaches for her last arrow and pulls it out, dips its tip into the chemical and quickly readies her shot. Initially aimed at the head of
Cato she slightly adjusts her shot directly above the heart of
Peeta Mellark. She takes a deep breath and fires...
The shot hits
Peeta Mellark right on target sending him falling to the floor, unconscious. The career pact look in the direction of where the shot came from and spot
Katniss Everdeen in the trees.
Katniss Everdeen: Johanna, get Rue out of here. Please!
Johanna Mason looks at
Rue and nods her head as they both jump out of the tree.
Johanna Mason grabs
Rue hand and the two take off running as the careers march over to
Katniss Everdeen hiding up in the tree.
Marvel: What a shot!
Marvel mocked. The other careers laughed as they surrounded
Katniss Everdeen who was hiding at the very top of the tree.
Clove: Let's play a game. How many throwing knifes can I throw at her before I successfully slit her throat?
The careers continue to have a laugh as
Clove pulls out several knifes. She closes her eyes and tosses them in the air. The first one nearly hits
Katniss Everdeen in her face but missed and get's stuck in the tree trunk. She throws a second one, then a third. All nearly hitting her. On the fourth shot
Clove opens her eyes and throws it catching
Katniss Everdeen in the leg, the careers cheer and laugh even harder.
Marvel: Alright, it's my turn. Who's going to catch her falling body!?
The careers shout
''not I!'' as Marvel throws an axe at
Katniss Everdeen. With his lethal accuracy accuracy he aims it straight for her head but
Katniss Everdeen puts her hands together and catches the axe inches away from her face.
Enorbaria: Not bad, tribute. Not bad.
Glimmer smiled.
Glimmer: Well, if this is the game this coward wants to play I guess this is where we're setting up camp tonight. She can't stay up there forever!
The careers agree and begin to drop their belongings around the tree. For awhile they mock
Katniss Everdeen talking about all the different ways they'd love to kill her but eventually as the day grows old, they grow bored and eventually one by one they fall asleep. As the night fall approaches
Katniss Everdeen decides to make her move.
Earlier in the day,
Rue had told
Katniss Everdeen about a vicious insect in the arena by the name of Tracker Jackers. Tracker jackers are genetically-altered wasps, conceived and created in the labs in the Capitol. They are genetically coded to attack anyone or anything that disturbs their nest. With the axe
Marvel had thrown at
Katniss Everdeen she climbed towards nearby nest and begin to slowly cut away at a branch in which they made it's nest.
It was a slow and exhausting process. It felt like hours because the more she cut away, the more the tracker jackers stung her causing her to hallucinate. But eventually, the branch gave way... the tracker jackers nest sent crashing down to the floor below where the Careers had laid. The tracker Jackers all stirred up flew out of their destroyed nest and attacked them - stinging away at every single one of the careers.
Cato screamed in pain as he slapped and clawed at the tracker jackers stumbling to his feet like a madman.
Clove cried in pain and immediately ran forward trying to escape as did the same for
Marvel. Enobaria seemed to take the tracker jackers stings the best as she stormed up to her feet in a rage and spotted the damaged nest. Without hestation - she kicked the Tracker Jackers nest in the direction of
Glimmer who was furthest away from the pact - the nest hit
Glimmer in her pretty face knocking her to the ground. This caused the Tracker Jackers to change soley focus their target on Glimmer, swelling her once pretty face beyond recognition as her cries for help went unheard.
For the rest of the day, the career pact would suffer from great hallucinations caused by the Tracker Jackers vicious assault but as for the fate of the pretty blonde from district one,
Glimmer?That was all she wrote.
