The Lounge is better suited for this, we have a section just for Entertainment. But I haven't seen the original but want to see this one. Kind of looks like Cabin In The Woods that more recent movie ripped this off a bit but I didn't much care for that movie. Just too much and I like the Thrill of a Horror or the JUMP parts if they're good ones, not some female jump spots.

Original Evil Dead Trilogy:
Loved these movies, and grew up with the genre. They are masterfully made. The tone changed so much throughout the three but it worked so well.
Remake:
Produced by Raimi and Bruce cambell. And seems to be very faithful to the original. The Deadites are so well done. And the tree rape scene still being included makes me so happy. This is one of the most anticipated movies for me.
Cabin in the woods: Completely deconstructed the genre and was genius. It paid homage to many films, including the evil dead. There are deadites in this movie, the cabin is a homage and on they reference the rape tree as well.

There is news that a Army Of Darkness 2 is in the works and i watched the original evil dead last night and if the new one is anywhere near as gory as the original then im so excited! I am fairly certain that Evil Dead 4 (Amry of Darkness 2) has been brought up by Raimi for the sole purpose of just getting the brand out there to promote the remake. IF they were really going to make another installment they wouldn't have waited this long to do it, and instead produce a remake. Don't get me wrong I would love to see the sequel, they should have done it around the The Names Bruce movie was made. But I just don't see it happening. And being the tone of this new film is much different than Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness it could throw people off. Plus if the movie good, and successful I see a new franchise in the remakes universe being top priority.

I'm generally wary of remakes. Some are good. Some are bad. I'm a pretty big fan of Evil Dead 1 & 2 and Army of Darkness. Heck, I watched Army of Darkness earlier today. If Raimi and Campbell are overseeing the production though, this should be pretty good. It clearly has a different feel than the original. Just have to wait and see what the end product will be like.

Raimi sais that he was going to unite the two franchises (the remake will bleed into the original. And that we will get to see Bruce Campbell as Ash again. Now whether or not he'll go back on his word (he's done so before) is anyone's guess. But imagine a Ash being back in a true horror Evil Dead film that is faithful to the VERY first one? I'm even more psyched for that. I actually LOL at the fact that he was such a damned pussy in the first one, and then by the second one, his balls dropped

see I read that Sam told Bruce that he wants to write it this summer while on vacation. Stories are already changing and such. so I am not going to get my hopes up in the chance my suspicions were correct.

It seemed like a rehash of Saw. Lots of gore. No character development. Cheap thrills... and most of the cool parts that they showed in the trailer weren't actually in the movie.
But overall, it was okay. It kept me interested at the least.

I just recently watched the original...Okay fucking sue me! Anyways..I'm just not a big fan of the overly gore of some old classics. I like Slashers but I dunno, I think I should have watched the new one first to appreciate the old ones maybe?
I'm looking more forward to "The Purge" now there is a movie I can get behind!

I rewatched the new one online again today, thinking that I may enjoy it more without having to pay money for it..... and it didn't help much.
The action and gore sequences were cool but I just couldn't get over how only one character really got any sort of development or backstory, and it's the girl that spends 80% of the movie playing a nonsensical forest demon.
Regardless, I'm a sucker for the whole franchise and I'll probably buy it on DVD the day it comes out.

Overall good movie. I just watched it finally. Don't understand the complaints made about lack of character development. For one the Original really only focused on Ash having to kill loved ones. We get that same story here, with the added bonus of a back story with their mother.
Also, since when are horror/slasher films supposed to be high brow art with loads of character development? Certainly not something we see in this franchise before.
My only complaint was that the girl used the chainsaw at the end.
Also the Stinger at the end with Ash was cool as shit.
