Buck’s brow is furrowed as the famous Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating contest is playing on one of the many television screens in the SABC 1 studio greenroom.
He often wonders how he would do in a hotdog eating contest.
Gooch checks his phone and contemplates current events and his time spent yesterday with the Meltdown announcers.
Yesterday, Gooch, Dick Harris, and Shane West were all interviewed when Gooch’s bowels decided to explode again...Gooch was talking about the T-ACT Cup...tonight, he wrestles in the T-ACT Cup and then flies straight to the arena to join a redemption battle royal for a spot in the Test For The Best.
Producer: We’re ready for you, Mr. Gooch. Are you feeling better?
Buckson Gooch: Cheese and Biscuits, you bet I am! I’m feeling a lot better!
Gooch shuffles into the studio again and sits across from Rohan Smith. Rohan smiles at Buck and they are counted down...
Rohan Smith: As many of you have heard, “The King of Pop†Michael Jackson’s daughter, Paris, tried to commit suicide today in America. Jackson had several popular tours here in our country and we considered him a welcome guest. We mourned his tragic death and we want Paris and family to know that our thoughts and prayers are with her in her recovery. We are glad to have Buckson Gooch with us this morning on Good Morning Cape Town. What do you think of the Paris Jackson suicide attempt?
Gooch crinkles his forehead and purses his lips. He slides his jaw to the side as he tries to put beneficial words together.
Buckson Gooch: I don’t know much about her. I don’t know what she is enduring. She may be okay on the outside but not on the inside in her heart and mind. Suicide is real and it’s very tragic and leaves a wake of pain in a family...sort of like a ripple effect...you’ve seen a drop hit still water and ripple outward. It’s heartbreaking to hear someone would want to take their own life, I hope her friends and family rally around her and give her the support and help she needs. Hopefully she will be able to live a long, productive life and look back at this as a turning point. As you know, I have a twitter account, @bucksongooch, and I’ve seen some very insensitive tweets from people about her. “She has everything†or “What’s her problem?†I don’t know how many of these people are just keyboard warriors hiding behind their computer screens or how many just don’t get it, but this young girl lost her father a few years ago. That can take YEARS to get over. I’m sure the press harass her on a regular basis because of who she is. I’ve seen how some of the paparazzi treat other MegaStars and it can be rough. I’m a middle of the pack type wrestler, so I get a few folks who want pictures or an autograph, but nothing to the extend that some of our main eventers or even Ms. Jackson get. Everyone, remember, we don’t know what everyone is going through. We’ve only experienced our lives. We’ve only experienced our trials. Let’s strive to be more forgiving and more loving with people. The world is a rough place, let’s not make this life more difficult than it has to be.
Rohan Jones: Excellent thoughts, Mr. Gooch.
Buckson Gooch: Just some country bred wisdom.
Rohan Smith: Mr. Gooch will be wrestling tonight in the second round of the T-ACT Cup representing Action Packed Wrestling against SHOOT Project’s Jester Smiles. Are you ready for your match tonight?
Buckson Gooch: Oh, absolutely Mr. Smith. I’m proud to represent Action Packed Wrestling, as I’m glad to be a MegaStar on the Overdrive roster. I’m surrounded by some of the best wrestlers in the world and collectively the most talent of any wrestling company in the history of wrestilng. I could name names, but you’ll see soon enough with the debut of Meltdown and the ongoing showings of Overdrive and Asylum. It’s a great time to be a wrestler and I’m glad that I can be a part of it.
Rohan Smith: Tell us what your plans are for the next two days...I want everyone to hear this.
Buck takes in a deep breath.
Buckson Gooch: Well, I have another stop after this at a radio show to interview for T-ACT cup. I have the big match tonight which I will hopefully win...and hopefully so will Gates and Raab. Then I’m flying back late tonight and heading straight to the arena for the Battle Royal.
Rohan Smith: Tell me more about the Battle Royal. What is it for?
Buckson Gooch: Last week I lost to Nathaniel Havok. There is no shame in that as he is one of the best wrestlers in APW. I just came up on the short end of the stick. I gave my best and it wasn’t good enough. I learned some valuable lessons and hopefully the result would be different next time. I digress, the redemption battle royal will determine the final competitor in the Test For The Best Tournament.
Rohan Smith: Do you want to win that tournament?
Gooch smiles a giant, toothy grin and raises his arms up and letting them slap at his thighs.
Buckson Gooch: Does a bear poop in the woods? Of course I want to win. Who wouldn’t want to win that tournament? This is a sure shot into the main event of APW. The highest of the highs. You will rub elbows with some of the greatest wrestlers who have ever lived...my philosophy of iron sharpens iron, would lead me to believe whoever wins this will not only move on to the level but will stay at the level and become an immortal...I want that to be me.
Rohan Smith: I don’t blame you, Buckson. Let’s look over your opponents...you’ll face AC Smith Jake Titan, Leon Roberts, Michael Jennings, and Dan White...wait...Titan, Roberts, and Jennings aren’t they all in The Natural Born Killaz?
An impressed eyebrow raises over Gooch's left eye. A smile hits the corner of his mouth and he continues.
Buckson Gooch: You’ve been watching Overdrive, kudos Mr. Smith! I’ve watched some of the promos already via my telephone, using WiFi of course, and each of my opponents breaks down everyone they are facing...Smith particularly had some nasty things to say about me...which he’s going to feel dumb for when I dump him over the top rope. I don’t need to talk about each of the competitors because I don’t have to worry about all of them. I have to worry about me. They are right to give me the accolades they do when it comes to this Battle Royal. I’m the biggest man in the Battle Royal. I’ve learned quite a bit in my 8 months as a wrestler...I’ve been humbled a few times and a few times I’ve been able to show sparks of something good. I hope that the improvement continues. I’ll always give my best. I’ll always strive to do what’s right. If I lose, I can shake my opponent’s hand knowing I gave my best. If I win, I’ll know it’s because of hard work and determination.
Rohan Smith: So how would you go about facing a Michael Jennings as compared to an A.C. Smith?
Buckson Gooch: Both are extraordinary wrestlers. I wouldn’t face them any differently...and they shouldn’t face me any differently...I would fight them to the best of my ability. I’d try to hook their legs and dump them out of the ring. I won the T-ACT Cup Battle Royal facing some strong talent. Throwing things is in my blood. I’ve thrown hay, I’ve had to toss dead animals into my truck, Fungus. You could say that throwing things is one of the things that I do best.
Rohan Smith: You’ve already touched on Nathaniel Havok, what about your teaming with him, Evan Envi, and Delikado? These men are known to fight against the side of good.
Buckson Gooch: Remember what I said earlier about not judging Paris Jackson...the same could be said for my new partners. Not everyone knows what makes them tick. I don’t see me changing to the darkside by joining them. I see a different side of them. People automatically want to clump me in as a turncoat and hypocrite when that couldn’t be further from the truth. Delikado has helped my son out immensely. I’ve been in Evan Envi’s inner circle for a little while now. I’m still new to Nathaniel Havok, but the little bit I’ve gotten to know has been respectable. Maybe people shouldn’t be so quick to judge but should become quick to try to understand. We have the New Sindicate and the Natural Born Killaz running wild and people want to question a force that wants to stop them? Come on now. The League of Extraordinary Wrestlers is together for a common goal. Four men working as one. We have goals and we will fulfill those goals.
Rohan Smith: We’re glad you came to us today to push tomorrow night’s episode of Overdrive. We wish you the best of luck this evening against Jester Smiles and the best of luck tomorrow night on Overdrive!
Buckson Gooch: Thank you for having me!
Rohan Smith: We'll be back after this commercial break, please stick with us!
Buck shakes Smith’s hand and the director yells clear.
Rohan Smith: Do you really believe all the stuff you just said? Be straight with me.
Buckson Gooch: Absolutely I do. I’m the same Buckson Gooch that was working the plow and wondering if he was going to lose his farm a few short months ago.
Rohan Smith: Were you being serious about your approach to that Battle Royal?
Buckson Gooch: Absolutely. Whoever comes in front of me will get the fight of their life regardless of their affiliation, pedigree, or reputation. I want to win that match. The way to do that is to do the best I can, not try to do what they won’t. I should be doing what they won’t by trying my best. Know what I mean?
Rohan Smith: I get it, Mr. Gooch. Thanks for stopping by today. Good luck to you.
Buckson Gooch: Thank you, Mr. Jones. Keep up the great work.
Buck unties his microphone and gives it to the produce and leaves the newsfloor with a big smile on his face...the next 48 hours are going to be exciting...here’s hoping his career turns the corner!
