Question for "Joseph Johnson"

I just want to know, who are you and why did you rip off my character? I've been Joseph Johnson with the same history, same story, same moves, same everything since the year 2003. The worst part is that you ripped off at least one of my RPs. It was the "♧Luck; To Paris & Beyond: The Explicit Saga♧" one if you're wondering. A character is bad enough, but taking credit for one of my roleplays? That's just not cool at all. I'm not coming here to cause any trouble, I just would like it if you stopped using my character.

I'm Shaun Cabalar and I was the one who actually found out about this place. I think it's pretty damn sad to steal someone's character and on top of that the rps themselves.

That's garbage if he is stealing characters and RPs. I've had someone take my character I have used since 2001. It sucks but odds are Joseph Johnson (The Fake one) will probably disappear from here now. Shame, it really is.

Character stealing sucks unless the handler was a complete menace and you can use them to make in-jokes and laughy times.

Very wrong, Fake Johnson who we will rename "Dildo" (Johnson..hehe) you shouldn't take people's shit man. Uncool. Hopefully he does come and at least defend himself, if not he's gone. I think he joined EWC which is an affiliate. Maybe I'm wrong on that though.

Maybe, maybe not but when you're furious that someone is stealing your swag, you don't tend to think about writing angry letters in private. You want action taken and you want it now.

Imagine if after the tragedy of Pearl Harbor, General MacArthur sat under a Joshua tree, took a deep breath, maybe counted to ten and then decided that having a quiet conversation with Yamamoto was the best course of action. There would be total outrage.

Now I'm not saying character theft in a roleplaying game is akin to Pearl Harbor... but you get the gist of what I'm trying to say here. Sometimes gut reaction to something that upsets you means dropping a nuke. Besides, if everything gets swept under the carpet of bureaucracy nothing ever gets done.

Should have been handled privately in PM's to Jeff and Johnson. Get the info, find out the whole story, and then publicly name and shame.

Naming and shaming now resolves nothing, you probably wont get an answer and who is to say it wont happen again a few months later down the line in another circle.

People who did this just plain suck. I don't even understand the point of it! The entire thrust and drive for this hobby surely comes from a desire to be creative, and to improve on your skills in the area of creativity you're pursuing? How stealing chunks - small or... well, vast - of someone else's output and masquerading it as your own achieves that is a puzzle to me. N.B. If you're all getting paid for this shit, please tell me, as I haven't had a paycheck for roleplaying in seventeen years!

Sorry this happened to you, man. I think I probably pity the fake JJ just a bit more, though, if he defines his self-worth by his ability to gank other peoples' work and (sometimes) win pretend wrestling matches on the internet. WTG, champ.

That's horrible that you guys had your characters stolen from this guy. Yeah we did have someone in PW stealing RP's and got banned.I will warn the fedhead on another fed I'm on about this guy if I know his IP number and e-mail address. Jeff most likely didn't know that the character was stolen and the RP's too.

I don't disagree with the theft, just the way.

A few years back, I had one of my RP's copied and stolen. Everything down to the last word and only the character names changed. it sucks, and hurt but at the end of the day he was the bigger douche.

What I am saying is there are different means and channels to go down to make sure this guy is blacklisted from e-fedding, rather than publicly shaming him on one forum and letting him disappear to do the same thing, it coudl have been handled in a way where he was blacklisted pretty much from the whole efedding community

No matter which method you approach it with, you can still do the same thing to prevent it happening again and approach interfed communities about blacklisting his IP.

I get that point. If he felt raged for being caught and started to spam maybe Jeff wouldn't see it until he had done some damage. Maybe he is a super hacker and wipes us clean because of the way it was done.

I know when my character got copied, I went storming to his "Real Fed" he was rping in. Real Wrestlers mixed with CAWs. I dislike real feds, always have so I stormed their boards not forums but message boards and posted. It blew up with his friends defending him, threatening to leave if he got banned but then would say oh but he's the real Jason Kash. Lucky for me I had old forums dated before his claims which others who were around at the time had also known me as being. Still I just wanted his head and in truth he turned out to be a cool guy. Just not very creative but how often do you see characters who might as well be the real wrestler only with a name change? Worse though that fed closed a few weeks later because of the drama created in a public setting?

Whats wrong here more so than anything is the rp being stolen. For APW I'd want to know if he's used a stolen rp here or is that just a claim without proof? That's the high crime to me. Post some links show us more than a website showing he stole a character not that that isn't a big deal. He's most likely gone either way, start checking top sites and shit I'd guess. Roam some feds.

i think going public is rite only AFTER pming jeff about it. cuz then it could be dealt with twice on the same levels. i remember when some guy from ACW took one of MY rp's. remember kash? the dude stole my SNL celebrity jeopardy rp, the same 1 that won me the WHC back in TCW. all his friends were like AWESOME RP then i called him out. wat i ended up doing was a segment where knuckles beat him half to death on his own show and he ended up getting banned. i went public with it after i talked to the gm at the time.

I'll echo some of the same sentiments said earlier on in the thread. I'm a writer by trade, and plagiarism is about the worst thing one can do in that line of work. Hell, just stealing a turn of phrase someone had used, which could only be a couple of words long, without crediting them could be grounds for someone to lose his/her job. For someone to steal someone's entire body of work? That's an absolute slap in the face.

Maybe this could've been handled privately, but I'm certainly not going to criticize someone who has had their entire character stolen from them and who is justifiably upset. Bluntly, I think most of us may have done the same thing the real Joseph Johnson did in that case.
