It wasn't enough...
The late flight back to New York was uncomfortable, he didn't eat, he didn't say a word. His cellphone rang and he flipped it open to read a late text message from his friend David. He looked at it...
"Good Luck Out There!"
He snapped the phone shut and just sat silent. Staring out the window into the black of night. He didn't even realize when the stewardess came over to offer him a beverage. He snapped back into reality and looked at her, still not uttering a word. The pressures he'd gone through this year alone, coupled with the loss to Diamante Valentine weighed heavy on his conscience. Where did he go wrong? Was there something he could've done better to win? Silent answers came and went. A tear formed in his eye and he immediately wiped it away, not wanting to show further his shame. In a flash, it was all over and by the time the bell rung, he'd felt as if he'd been slapped. Karma didn't need eyes to tell him that perhaps he was being a bit too cocky, and not really putting what was important ahead of him. He thought to himself...
"I lost, therefore I am a loser and should hate myself for it.."
He buried his head in his hands and shook his head. Twice Diamante Valentine snuck a surprise victory over him - this last time being a question of having the right opportunity present itself. He began to question and second guess his methods, and could find no answers. He needed to go back to that proverbial drawing board and re-think a strategy. He thought of Pence's words - and how he called his momentum "hype". Facing family & friends after this wasn't going to be a particularly comfortable experience this year. He exhaled and closed his eyes. He didn't want to feel anymore. His emotions began to swirl in different directions - anger, fear, frustration and beneath it all... a sense of hopelessness. He closed his eyes and drifted off into the peace world of dreams...
