Reporters all around have dissed him, have said he is on a downhill slump, and that there is not much light left at the end of the tunnel for him, but something on Overdrive perked my interest about Mr. Main Event, Pence Weatherlight. It was after the match of course that I wound my way through the halls until I found his locker room where Pence was sitting with a grin on his face. Yes, a grin. He had a few words for me as he spoke.
"Gates got lucky tonight."
As he said this I noted how his eyes were positively gleaming, it was like Pence was invigorated, and I for one wanted to know what for. Pence had just lost another critical match and it seemed like he was going nowhere, but something about his demeanor gave me hope as a Pence Weatherlight fan. As I asked him how Gates got lucky, he handed me a DVD.
"Watch the whole match."
He left without saying anything more and I, being a loyal writer to the MainEventBuzz website quickly did as Mr. Main Event asked. What I saw...gave me hope for his championship aspirations. You see, unlikes weeks ago when Pence was literally slumming it, this week Pence was dominating. He was powerful and above all else he kept C.J. out of commission for most of the match. It was only till the final seconds when C.J. got a lucky break that Pence lost. Pence was indeed correct. C.J. had gotten lucky, he had caught Pence by surprise, but it would never happen again. I tracked down Pence, right before he was about to fly off to his next destination for another airing of Overdrive. He had a few words for everyone involved in the APW.
"The droughts over folks, people can begin tilling the crops, and harvesting because Mr. Main Event is back in business. This loss was nothing more than an aberrant fluke and C.J. needs to learn that. Lightning will not strike twice and he should enjoy his last second win because next time...I'm going to just run him over like a stampeding bison. As for everyone else, notice has been handed out, and you should all be afraid because after Rasslemania when I bring us the win over IWC...no championship is safe. Not Sally's, not Biggs', not even the RSM's championship is safe. Pence Weatherlight from this point on is playing for keeps."
Pence boarded his flight on time and with a grin, leaving me to write this tale of what may come to pass this Thursday. It is my belief, as a man who has written about Pence for most of his writing career, that this Thursday...the rut stops, and the flood gates open. And when those flood gates open, God have mercy on whoever has a championship.
