I was a lot younger then only 6 years old starting kindergarten. My father was a janitor at a middle school and my mother was a RN. It was my birthday and I was expecting the biggest birthday ever but it turned out to be one of the worst birthdays I will ever have. I was turning 7 years finally I can be considered to be called the big kid mentally because physically I was already the tallest kid in my class. I was sitting in my room wearing a birthday hat watching the glory days of The Mighty Morphing Power Rangers. My mother is at my door smiling at me but I can tell it was a fake smile so I played it off acting like I didn’t notice. I go back watching my television and I can hear whispering in the hallway but as a child I don’t fear the worst I mean it’s my birthday so I was thinking that they were planning a surprise party but instead they were planning something that would ruin the rest of my childhood. My father comes into my room and sits next to me and gives me a hug and looks at me with his big brown eyes I can remember this moment as if it just happened even now I can’t remember why they did what they did. My father is still sitting me watching me watching television. He turns me around and asks me “You know I love you son?” I nod my head in approval and with a smile I gave my dad a hug and he just stares at me with his big brown eyes.
He walks out of the room and my mother looks as if she is going to burst out into tears. She comes into my room next. She sits next to me and asks me if I want to go for a ride. I said yes so I go and get my shoes on and we all pile in the 1993 Camaro. We drive around for about four hours I don’t know where we were going. All of sudden we pull up in front of a police station they ask me to get out of the car for a sec my mom meets me in front of the car and gives me a big hug. She goes back in the car and my mother and father drive off with the tires squealing from the pavement. I stand there still wearing my birthday hat with a look of confusion. What could I do now? I stand in front of the police station tears are streaming down my face. A woman a walk pass me and turns around and she notice that I am crying. She looks to have been in her mid twenties short curly brown hair and deep blue eyes she was kind of chubby but you can tell that she was one of those people that you would want to meet. She was very kind and courteous she gave me a hug and told me everything will be ok. She takes my hand and leads me inside the police station. She tells me to sit down and she begins talking to the police officer who is taking down notes. She tells them that she found me in front of the station and the police officer walks over to me and begins asking me questions. “Hey there little buddy my name is Officer Charles you mind telling me your name?” I looked up at him and inventively said “My parents told me not to talk to strangers”. The police officer chuckles a little bit “ Well son I am a police officer we are supposed to help people you can talk to me I am sure your parents won’t be made so can you please tell me your name?”
I look at him again and cuff my hands together “My name is Jason sir Jason Andrews”. The officer smile pats me on the head and goes back to his desks and makes a phone call. The lady that I met before sits next and tell me everything is going to be ok and says that these police officers will take care of me. She leaves the police station and once again for the second time today I was abandoned I was deceived my heart was broken and I felt that no one in the world loved me. The police officer comes back over to me and asks me another question “Hey Jason I just wanted to know if you knew your phone number or address?” I shook my head no” Well do you know which part of New York City you are from. I start tearing up again “I from Brooklyn.” The police officer takes out his notepad and pen and jots down information. “Ok Jason some people are going to pick you up here very soon and take you to a new home we just need your phone number so we can tell your parents where you are going to be staying at do you know your phone number?” I shake my head no” We didn’t own a telephone sir.” He just gently smiles and he looks like he is losing his patience. A few hours pass it is now quarter to 9. I am asleep and a lady wakes me up. She sits next to me with a pen and notepad just like the police officer she starts asking me questions. “Hello Jason my name is Mrs. Trudy do you mind telling me how you got here today?”. Still with a tired lazy look in my eyes I wipe them and yawn. “Well today is my birthday and my parents took me into the car we driving all over New York then they tell me to get out of the car in front of this place my mom gave me a hug and she went back to the car and they left. They just left.” She just sits there writing notes down
She looks at me with a confident glare. “Well Jason we found you a new home these are very nice people” Obviously she had no clue how those people really were because for the next ten years were the worst of my young life. If I knew what was to come I would have smacked the taste out of that bitches mouth and made her put me in a different home because once they place you in a home they really don’t want nothing to do you but show up for your court dates. She loads me up in the car and blasts the radio to the worst grunge radio station you can possibly imagine, it was the 90’s what are you going to do? I arrive at my new home it was a two story house pretty nice suburban neighborhood but what was inside was the worst two people I have ever met in my life. Me and Mrs. Trudy walk up to the door and answer the doorbell. An older Puerto Rican lady answers the door and her husband right beside her and after I enter through that door there is no way back. Mrs. Trudy leads me into their home and she goes back to her door and for me a new life begins.
