It was a few days after my abandoning I was trying to get used to my new way of living. I have never met these people in my life I was scared and I felt alone. I mean if you were in my situation wouldn’t you be? I was sitting in my new room reading a book when my new foster mother came into his room. She was a young Hispanic woman in her early thirties. She was very pretty she stood around five feet eight inches tall she had long brown curly hair going down her back. Her eyes are a light green. She came over to me and gave me a hug her smell of perfume engulfed my room.
“Listen Jason I know you have been through a tough time but I am sure you will like it here you just have to follow the rules ok?” I nod my head in agreement and she leaves the room. I go to the edge of my bed and fold my hands and look up to the ceiling. Of course only at the age of seven I know who god was but I never really prayed to him and I really didn’t know how but I thought I would give it a go any way.
“God I know you know who I am so really don’t need to introduce myself but I am also sure you know what’s going on right now. I miss my parents very much. All I want to know is why they left me. I got good grades I always did what they told me to do. I just want to know why I left.” As soon as he finished his prayer is foster father comes into his room checking up on him. He is also Hispanic rather tall in good shape with a five o clock shadow.
“Hey Jason how you holding up buddy?” I stay silent for a while and his foster father walks over to him and kneels down and puts his hand on my shoulder. “Look Jason I know you probably see me as the bad guy were here to help you not hurt you if you want I have to go to do a wrestling match later you come with me if you would like to.” I stare up at him with his big brown eyes and nods. “That’s a good boy now go get dressed we are leaving in about an hour.” I nod i head and grab my Stone Cold Steve Austin T-shirt and cameo shorts. I run down stairs and meet myfoster father with his duffle bag around his arm. “You look good kid now listen when we go to the arena just stay by me and I will let you meet the wrestlers your going to have a great time trust me.”
We get into his 1997 Yellow Chevy Camaro. The car ride to the arena was silent for a while. Not a word said the radio was off and I was just staring at my feet. “Jason you’re going to be living with us for a long time. I just thought I would let you know you can talk to me about anything if you can’t talk to anyone else you can talk to me. I know you’re not ready to talk about what happened to you a few days ago and that’s fine but if you ever have the urge or the need to talk to anyone talk to me because believe I know what you’re going through Jason. I grew up in the foster care system going from home to home. I don’t want that to happen to you. I don’t want you to have a bad life to believe it or not.” I just look at him paying attention to every word he has said. I start to burst into to tears because that’s exactly what I needed to hear. He looks down at me and smiles. I may not have gotten an answer to why my parents left me but it looks like god flipped the switch and does something completely different he put someone in my life that understands.
We reach the arena and I was absolutely astounded about the mass of people attending the event. It was an Indy event but they pulled out a great show like it was on television. I got to meet the other performers and so my foster father performs in front of the few thousand people that were attending. He brought the house down and so did his opponent. He got the crowd involved he did everything right his feet work his promo work everything about that night was special to me. I may have lost my parents a few days earlier but it seems like that I gained a new friend and he was the key to my success god puts certain people in our lives that could either make us or break us but this time was different I got the better part of the deal and I’m great full for that. After the show we were sitting in his locker room getting ready to go home but when we opened the door a sea of people were there just to get a glimpse of there hero. The fans in the building hallway “El Toro” Over and over again after that night I automatically knew what I wanted to do in life I wanted to wrestle. I never wanted to do anything else.
When we got back into the car I had the biggest smile on my face I had the time of my life and it was one of the greatest days of my life. He looked at me from the drivers seat and he a look of so much pride in his face. “You had a good time tonight Jason?” I look up to him in admiration I couldn’t believe the things he did in the ring tonight “Yes had a lot of fun I want to be just like you.” He chuckles for a moment. “No Jason you don’t want to be like me when you grow up. You want to be better than me. You want to be better than everyone else. You are your own person Jason don’t be like the rest of the crowd be unique be you.”
Those words stuck to me for the rest of my life. That night changed me forever. In this day present time a lot of people forget that. Be better than the rest of the pack. Be the best at whatever you do. Achieve to bigger and better things that no one else can achieve in time after that hard work will finally pay off. Never settle for less than the best. When I wanted something I got it because I worked hard to get it.
