Our scene opens in Dita Morgan’s loft apartment, the feel to the rooms are light and airy with a few unique or should we say kitsch elements to the design. Scattered on the shelves in the main room are souvenirs from Dita’s around the world treks and photos. A barefoot Dita, dressed in faded and ripped jeans, and a white vest, walks out of the kitchen holding a cup in carefully in both ands and as she walks by the shelves her eyes are drawn to the photos there.
Currently one photo is facing down; Dita set it face down after she returned home from Overdrive. She should be celebrating her win but there’s something holding her back. She’d seen him backstage; she can’t tell if he saw her but that quick look made her think about the last time she saw him. She settles on the huge grey sofa, setting her drink down on the table and pulling a thin comforter around her.
London was the last time they had spoken, and that memory still stuck with her. She knew he was involved in a show in London, but she didn’t think they would bump into each other like that. She can still hear the conversation they had, she knew just leaving had hurt him. She could tell by the way he spoke to her that if she wanted back in it would take a lot of work. If he’d been angry she’d know better where she stood but he seemed so calm.
She knew everything he’d done had been to help her, to stop her falling back into bad habits, but she’d run away. Again. For the first time she saw and realised how much hurt she had caused. The only person to ever break through the walls she built up around herself, the only one who had pierced her emotional armour. And she had in turn done what she’s always done best, run away. She remembers how she watched him walk away in the rain and though it was best not to follow – all she knew how to do was hurt people. But this time she could do something to show him how much she’d changed.
As if trying to banish the thoughts from her head she closes her eyes and pulls the comforter around her tighter. How would she have dealt with this a few years ago? That's easy, she would have called up her now former best friend, Kat Westwood, and arrange for Kat to bring over a few ‘party favours’ and a lot of alcohol. She sighs at the thought, of the person she used to be, the little girl lost who had found her way when he tried to help her. It would be so easy to just slip back into those old habits, to drop everything, to down a few shots, to take a few lines. As if she’s just realised the thoughts that have crossed her mind she quickly reaches for the phone resting on the table and dials the number of her sponsor.
The APW camera crew are setting up for an interview with Dita Morgan. APW’s resident backstage interviewer Hannah Storm is being microphoned up when Dita walks into the studio, compared to Hannah’s smart all business outfit, Dita looks slightly out of place in her black wet look black leggings, over the knee black boots and long green off the shoulder shirt. Her hair is teased into a messy look and her eyes are darkly lined. Hannah gives her a nod as a crew member approaches Dita and starts to set up her microphone. He directs her to the sofa area and Hannah joins her. The scene is set and the cameraman starts counting them down 5.. 4.. 3.. 2.. 1..
Hannah Storm: Good evening APW fans, I’m Hannah Storm and I’m here with Dita Morgan, one of our new signings who will be working o Meltdown. Firstly Dita welcome to APW, you’ve got to be on a huge high after your win at Overdrive.
Dita Morgan: Thank you for having me. Yeah Overdrive was probably a bit of a shock to most people. Just look at the physical difference between Yarmouth and myself. But I’d told people not to doubt me. I’m a lot tougher than people think. I might not be the tallest or strongest in a match but I’ll do everything I can to make my mark. I’m sure that I did last week.
Dita smiles to herself before carrying on.
Dita Morgan: If I’m honest I’m coming off a whirlwind week, getting signed and having my first match in the space of a week. Winning that match makes a great impression on your debut and then heading over to the Meltdown brand. It’s all been a bit hectic.
Hannah Storm: You’ve mentioned being moved to Meltdown, how do you feel about the brand move?
Dita Morgan: I’m actually really excited to be a part of something this big. It’s a chance for me to not only get back into the swing of this routine. I have been out of action for awhile. So now I have a chance to show how hard I can work and that I deserve to be on this roster. Then if I’m right for the job they can move me over to one of the different shows. It’s a chance for everyone to get the chance to showcase their talents and it’ll bring us rookies up to speed.
Hannah Storm: Aren’t you upset about being moved from Overdrive, I heard that there’s some history between you and The A.K.A?
Dita Morgan: Right now Hannah my past is something I’m being a little bit guarded on. I’m sure people are aware that there are things that connect myself to Slade, and to Shadow.... But right now there’s matches to take place and I’m going to keep a few things personal.
Hannah Storm: So you’re not even going to give us a tiny hint as to what happened there?
Dita Morgan: Nope. Next question.
Hannah Storm: Ok... Now that you’re on Meltdown, you’re set to face Benny Horrowitz this week.
Dita Morgan: I am indeed.
Hannah Storm: Have you heard about his comments on the match?
Dita Morgan: I think by now we all have. Blatant sexual overtones really won’t get to me, I’m a girl, I have boobs, and I’m used to it! You should have seen some of the job, I use that term lightly, I had in Ibiza. There were a lot of situations I got myself into and a lot of things I did that I wouldn’t say I’m overly proud of. And like a cat I seem to have nine lives and always got myself out of those situations. All jokes aside, we’ve all seen that I’m not afraid to get into the ring with someone who could out weigh me. Clearly Benny thinks he’s some sort of god’s gift to women. If I get in the ring with him, then I’ll clearly fall in love with him and let him go all caveman and drag me back to his locker room. Whatever.
Dita pushes her hair off her face and rolls her eyes.
Dita Morgan: That behaviour doesn’t wash with me. I’ve spent years trying to get away from just being seen as yet another bit of T and A. I’m sure others have their own opinions on that, but I’m not going to be parading around the ring in skimpy outfits and I sure as hell don’t need to be hanging off of Benny Horrowitzs arm. I have much better things to do with my time than be someone’s bit of eye candy. You want to talk Top Gun Benny? Well its time for you to step into the ‘Danger Zone’ your little comments wont shake me, I can’t be broken that easy. I’ll keep coming back at you, I already have one win under my belt and there’s not a chance I’m going to let you get one over on me. So bring your little games, your view on being god’s gift to women and your fight to Meltdown. Because I’ll be ready and waiting to knock you down. I can’t wait for Monday, when I’ll show the world that you’re not the big man you think you are, time to wake up Benny and step up!
Hannah Storm: Wow some fighting words from Dita Morgan there. Thank you for taking the time to talk to us about your match and the best of luck this week.
Dita Morgan: Not a problem.
The cameraman gives the signal that the camera has stopped rolling, the crew quickly work to take the microphones off of each girl and set the area up for Hannah’s next interview. Dita quickly thanks Hannah for taking the time to talk to her and then heads out of the room as the scene fades out.
