• OH RADIO, TELL ME EVERYTHING YOU KNOW •
In less than twenty four hours APW would be hosting Mayhem from Montreal, Quebec. That is exactly why Johnny Sykes found himself sitting in the studio of a radio station in Montreal. He had his head set on as he looked across the table over at another man that was known well around the area for his radio show skills. That of course being the man known as DJ Shane-O and just about that moment the show went live. It was time for the local listeners to get a dose of just Sykes in their morning.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, I am DJ Shane-O and today I have a special guest in the studio. In less than twenty four hours APW will be hosting their Mayhem event here in Montreal, Quebec. With that being said I have one of APW Mega Stars in the house tonight. All around the world people know him as ‘The Original Pranksta’ Johnny Sykes, but here today at this young man’s request. We’re going to call him DJ Johnny. Welcome to the show my man.”
“Yo, yo what up dude? Thanks for having me here. You know I had to show my Montreal, Quebec peeps some love. Been a hot minute since I been up here but boy it feels great to be back mah dude.”
It became quite clear to the listeners that Sykes was having himself a little bit of fun. No way in real life did he actually talk like that but then again Sykes was a bit over the top in real life as it was. He just enjoyed having fun and lived life to its fullest at any and all cost. That was the way a lot of people should be.
“Haha, I feel that DJ Johnny. I invited you on the show here today because I wanted to get a word with you about this APW Mayhem deal. It isn’t very often we get these big wrestling shows that come up here, but when we do. It’s like one of the best damn things that happened to this city. Why don’t you give me a little run down of what the plan is for tomorrow night? Some of the big matches and what not kid.”
“Man we got ourselves a stacked card. Everything from top to bottom is something that the fans want to see. We got a Triple Threat Match for the World Heavyweight Championship featuring the Champ: Jason Kash going up against Johnny Knuckles and Chaz Dillinger. Got to be honest mah dude. Dillinger and Knuckles are a couple of douchenozzlers. I am looking forward to Kash picking up the win here.” Sykes chuckled a bit. “We got some other big matches like Kurt Noble defending the Undisputed Championship against CJ Gates. Lots of people are looking forward to the match. It should be a good one… even though I don’t really pay that much attention to Overdrive. It tends to conflict with my Thursday night gaming time. But along with that we also got the Ball Room Brawl which of course yours truly will be competing in. I think this match could steal the show.”
“I heard about that match. I guess it’s where the six of you all dress up in Ball Room attire and fight it out in a Ball Room. Last man or woman standing will be the winner. Guess you all gotta win by elimination, or at least something along those lines. Am I about correct on that?”
“Shoot! Your guess would be about as good as mine bro. That’s how it’s been explained to me. Don’t really understand it. Don’t get the purpose of it, but I guess it’s better than a Vince Russo booking idea. Like say having a bunch of masked wrestlers fight over a piñata that is hanging above the ring on a pole.”
There was a small series of chuckles that came from Sykes and DJ Shane-O. Nothing like having a good laugh at a tool that basically did nothing in the business but make a couple fool out of himself. Though at the same time though this match was still a very big deal despite the rules to it being different and that was something Sykes needed to keep in mind due to him set to compete in it tonight.
“Got love some of those Russo ideas haha. But moving along DJ Johnny, from what I heard this is going to be your first big match in a couple years. It’s been awhile since you have been on a pay per view and it’s been awhile since getting a chance to show off your skills on a big stage at a big event. How are you feeling about it? Think you’ll be able to pick right back up where you left off?”
“Good question dude. I think I should be able too. I took some time away from wrestling to be a Dad and just do something different. But wrestling is what I love. It’s been the thing I have always wanted to do. I have pictures where I was running around in diapers mocking the Macho Man. It’s like I was destined to do this. Now since I stepped foot in APW. Everything has been so far so good. I am currently two and o. For those peepz that might not understand that lingo. It means I have two wins and zero loses. But tonight at Mayhem, my undefeated streak is going to be put to a test and I am really going to be put to a test. Like you pointed out it has been awhile since I got a chance to do something special on a big stage. As long as it’s been though I am not discouraged, hell nah bro if anything I am encouraged and I plan on showing the people of Montreal, Quebec just exactly what I am capable of doing when it matters the most.”
“That’s one way to look at it DJ Johnny, and I can tell you I am going to be tuning in to see what you got. Now with that being said though, I am sure you are well aware of this. You are up against five other people. Two people from Overdrive, Two people from Meltdown, and then another person from the same brand you’re on: Asylum. I just have to ask who do you think is the weakest link to this match? After all each brand has a chance to be represented by a superstar or diva. Got to see a weak link somewhere.”
“You know something Shane-O? I hate to be one of those people that cut others short. I know what it’s like to be one of those guys that got cut short and one of those guys that got constantly overlooked. I had to work long and hard to make sure that people started to take me seriously and stopped overlooking me. But as much as I hate to do that I have to admit that there are two people that aren’t ready to be taken seriously. There are two people that aren’t ready to be on that level with the rest of us in that match.”
He kind of shook his head a bit. It was clear he didn’t want to cut people short but was in a position where had too. Not that the viewers could see his actions but they would certainly be able to hear it in his voice. After that brief pause in his speech, Sykes began to speak again explaining just who he was talking about and why he felt that way about them.
“Those two people just happen to be Dita Morgan and Yarmouth. They just happen to be the Mega Stars from the Meltdown brand. Originally, I considered them to be something and considered them to have a chance in that match. I was sure that they understood the importance of this match and I was sure that they knew that this was their chance to shine. But my view quickly changed throughout the week. These kids don’t seem focused and they don’t seem like they want it. It actually tells me that they don’t even belong in this match. Again I hate being the guy that says that but it’s the truth. It wouldn’t shock me if these two were the first ones knocked out and eliminated from the contest. If that does happen, they truly don’t have anyone to blame but themselves.”
“You know man, as much as you may not like it and as much as you might not want to be that guy. Sometimes you just have to call it right down the middle. Call it like you see it and put it out there regardless of your personal feelings. Surely they did something to make you lose faith in them and like you said that would be their very own fault. But moving onward DJ Johnny, I heard earlier this week that AC Smith had some pretty interesting words.”
“Is that so? I am kind of guy that surprised the guy couple put together a compound word let alone a series of words to make a clear and understanding statement, haha.”
“Ouch, mega burn. Ha, anyway from what I heard with this guy. He made some comments about how you did something that he considered very dangerous. That being the fact that you caught his attention and apparently he was rather bothered by your claims that you guaranteed that you were going to knock him out. In his words claiming something like that about someone you don’t know isn’t smart. Seems like you really ruffled this guy’s feathers, and not in a good way. Guess the question I would have for you my friend is, how does this affect you? Does it change your game plan? Or are you really not bothered by Smith’s comments.”
“First allow me to get this out of my system… L-O-L U MAD BRO?”
Sykes had this big ol’ grin on his face at this very moment. Obviously he thought Smith’s comments were comical. It seemed that the next couple of words that came out of his mouth would be something that would people would want to pay attention too, especially when they were bound to be words of entertainment.
“Boy, I didn’t know realize people go butt-hurt so easily over minor things, but clearly I was wrong about that. To answer your question Shane-O. This doesn’t change my game plan and it doesn’t really bother me. I was well aware of what I said when I said what I said about Smith and it doesn’t make me ‘not smart’ as he would put it. I might not have wasted precious video game time by looking into his history, but I did gather enough information to form an assumption of the guy. I gathered the dude was going to have an ego. I gathered the dude was going to think rather highly of himself. I made a fair assumption that not only would he count me out but he would count everyone else out. Simply because he was ‘undefeated’ and no one has bothered to stop him yet. Sure enough it seemed I was right if he’s so bothered by my comments.” He simply shrugged his heads a tad bit. “Like I said my plan hasn’t changed. I am gunning after Smith along with Nick Watson and I am going to do my best to personally see to it that I am the one that knocks them out and as quickly as I possibly can. Way I see it, Smith can be as grumpy as the dwarf classic Disney movie: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Grumpy people don’t bother me. Neither do people that think they are the greatest thing since the freakin’ yo-yo. I’ll handle my business the moment we find ourselves in that Ball Room with each other and I’ll do what I always do. Turn people into believers of myself and show people just how talented I am. Maybe just maybe AC Smith will learn that his approach on things is wrong, or maybe he won’t and will have this warped macho attitude where he’s better than everyone. Either way though, aint gonna make a difference to me because I know I am coming out looking strong and with a W added to my belt.”
“Some people learn their lessons and some people don’t. You won’t be able to know if Smith learns it until after the contest but here’s hoping that he does. No one cares for someone that has an ego and acts like they are the greatest thing to ever exist. But in the mist of all that DJ Johnny, you also mentioned another name and that name was Nick Watson. That was the other person from Overdrive that you made claims to knocking out first and making sure was eliminated off the bat. Over the last couple days Watson himself had a few things to say about you as well.”
“Man, guess I am like a trending topic or something.”
“It seems that way my friend haha, but with that being said. Watson seems a little bit annoyed with you as well. That was made clear when he was heard making comments about you not having any idea what you are talking about. He said your claims about him being overhyped didn’t seem to make any sense. He also made some comments about your maturity level and you just trying too hard to make yourself seem like a relevant good guy or something along those lines. I didn’t hear everything just caught bits and pieces of it.”
“And this is all coming from a guy that hasn’t won a match that’s worth talking about since he signed his name on the dotted line.” All he could do was chuckle a little bit. “I know I haven’t won a match worth talking about but at least I have won every single match I have been in, which is more than this guy can say. Don’t get me wrong or anything I am not one of those people that hate for no reason or anything. To be quite honest, I’m not even hating on the guy. He’s not that important to me, but as far as his comments ago about me not having any idea what I’m talking about when it comes to him being overhyped. Yeah, cause that makes a whole lot of sense. I can name quite a few people that have been giving this guy props and stating he has a bright future. His name has come up a whole lot more than mine has. Do I fault him for that? nah, not at all but I do believe it is a part of him being overhyped and I do believe people are overlooking me for him for whatever reason that is.”
He simply shrugged a little bit while making that statement. The Original Pranksta had never been one to be bothered by such things, seeing as he wasn’t insecure about himself and he knew that people would always trash talk that was just a part of the business and made everything go round so to speak.
“And as far as everything else goes. It isn’t even worth my time commenting on. So what I’m immature, I am loving life and not being a douchenozzle like him. I also know for a fact that I am a good guy. Fans all across the world love me and I am way more relevant than he has ever thought about being, so whatever homie wants to tell himself to make himself feel better before he goes to bed at night.”
“Ha, as the phrase goes dude. Haters are gonna hate. With that being said I notice that you didn’t have whole lot to say about the same man that’s competing from the same brand as you. Course that would be Billy Pepsi.”
“Who? Exactly, dude is nothing more than a wannabe that jacks people’s styles and builds himself up as some original character when in reality he isn’t. In fact he’s nothing more than a massive tool that isn’t nearly as good as he builds himself up to be and that’s all there really is to say about the guy.”
“Guess that would be one way of wording it, but with that being said folks. We are running out of time with my special guest DJ Johnny or as APW refers to him Johnny Sykes. I wanted to thank you for deciding to stop by my friend and give us an inside view of the big event you had coming up. It was a lot of fun and a pleasure.”
“Word mah dude. It was a lot of fun. Thank for having me, I’ll have to be sure that I drop by next time I’m up in this area. Maybe we get done on some Halo or something. I’ll own you, haha!”
“There you have it folks. Be sure that you catch Mayhem here tonight from Montreal, Quebec and be sure to support DJ Johnny in his matchup. It’s bound to be great, and with that being said we’ll be back on air with a new guest in the next ten minutes. Stayed tune.”
On that note the show went off hair. Sykes stood up taking his head set off and reached across the table to shake the hand of DJ Shane-O. He had thoroughly enjoyed himself on the show but as much as he enjoyed himself. It was time for him to get himself ready for what could be the night that launched his career back on the level it was once before. Only way to see if it was possible would be by tuning into Mayhem where Sykes was surely to give his best.
