Over the last few days Michael Harris had been seriously done some thinking. All that thinking came from what the old man (his former mentor – just twelve years ago) told him just days ago about him becoming weak, becoming pathetic, and becoming a joke. It had consumed his every thought to the point that he was starting to believe it. However today though it was something he couldn’t think about or deal with,, seeing as he agreed to meet up with a former friend and a former student of his. In fact this person happened to be one of his biggest success stories as far as the kids he trained and the person just happened to be Jeanette Salazar.
Harris was walking inside the restaurant that he agreed to meet her at. It didn’t take him long at all to notice her as she was the only woman in the entire place with a child. She was whipping something from the little boy’s lips when Harris walked up to her with a bit of a smile featured.
“Jeaniebean, long time no see eh kid?”
“Yeah, I'll say. Looking good Harris, although, not half as good as me.”
“Not everyone can be a single mother that just happens to be a MILF. That kind of shit only happens takes place in movies like American Pie, but I would like to still think I am damn good looking for thirty years old and having tore my body part the last twelve years haha.”
“Thirty? Try forty, doll. We both know you're ten years older than you keep telling people." She said, with a laugh, as she took a drink of her raspberry tea. "So, I hear you've been going off the rails on the crazy train. What's going on, Mikey?”
Harris simply chuckled a bit. Leave it to her to find things out through the grapevine or the gossip reel. “Let’s just say this much. Things haven’t exactly gone the way I wanted since I decided to come out of retirement. I have had a chance to become champion twice now and the guy that I am facing keeps coming back.” He shook his head a little bit with frustration. “I broke his ribs. I kicked his head into a concrete wall. No matter what it isn’t enough to keep him down. It was just pointed out to me a few days ago that the old me would have never allowed this to happen. I’ve apparently changed and not for the better. I’ve become weak, pathetic, but most of all I have become a joke and now I am in a position where I have to change that.”
“And so, by changing you're gonna turn into the raging lunatic that you were when I met you? No good, Mikey, no good. Do you remember what you were like, back then? Because I do. You kept wanting to beat the shit out of Kevin for even opening his mouth...not that I'd mind that now. Fuck that bastard. But regardless, you were violent, crazy, evil, psychotic...you belonged in a nut house.”
“Trust me the day I see Kevin, I’ll break his fucking jaw.”
He shook his head just a tad bit due to frustration. It was pretty obvious that he nor did she really care for her now ex-husband after some stunt he had pulled. However it was important that he didn’t think about that or it would just be another thing that irritated him and made him want to go into a rampage.
“But as violent, as crazy, as evil, and as psychotic as I might have been at that time. People knew not to screw with me. People knew that I was the real deal. People knew that when I said I was going to do something that I was going to do it. I used to strike fear into people Jeanette and now I don’t have that same effect. I am clearly losing my touch and I don’t appreciate in the least bit.”
"Well, if it makes you feel any better; I was never scared of you." She said, with a smirk on her face. "Do I think you let yourself go? Kind of. Do I think this is the best way to go about finding 'yourself' again? No. If anything, this is only going to backfire on you in ways that you don't want. Tell me about this guy you're facing. What's he like? What are his weaknesses? What are his strengths? What is it about him that seems to give him that fuel to persevere through all your psychotic tendencies?"
She asked, with a more serious look on her face. At one point, Jeanette too was a wrestler, and a successful one at that, though since having her son she found herself spending more time with him than in a ring.
“As much as I hate to say this… this guy reminds me a lot like myself when I started out years ago.” There was a brief pause as it was made clear he hated to make that statement. “He is goal driven. He wants to be the best this business has to offer. He isn’t scared of a fight and he doesn’t back down. Those are just some of his strengths, but as far as his weakness goes. Only thing I have been able to find thus far is he isn’t as strong as I am mentally. He willingly admitted to me that I got inside his head and that’s something you should never do. Even you know that but the moment he admitted that I have preyed on that. I have done everything I can to break him down and I will continued to do so at Mayhem.”
His words seemed a little shaky. Almost as if he wasn’t as confident in himself as he once was, and that’s when you know that Harris was starting to slip. Never once had Harris ever doubted himself or his abilities but now he was and that could only lead to bad things if he didn’t find himself once again.
“And the thing you don’t seem to understand is I have to go to that dark place again. I don’t care what people think about me but I do care what I think about me and I worked too damn hard for too damn long to be the very best. I refuse to let myself be a joke, but on top of all that Jeanie. Our match is going to be a Last Man Standing match. The only match besides an I Quit match I am undefeated in and I know that I have to find that guy I once was if I want any chance of survival. You might not agree, but it’s the only thing I have.”
“Mikey, I know that you are in a bad spot right now. I’m not stupid I am fully aware of understanding this concept, but for once in your life listen to someone that isn’t yourself.” Harris raised his eyebrow just looking at her as those words seemed to catch his attention. “This is not what you need to do to find yourself. You do need to cross that line again. If you do it very well could be the end of you. It took you forever to come around and get away from that kind of life style. Sure, you might be in a brutal match and I understand you’ve got something to prove but this isn’t the way to do it.” Jeanette reached out grabbing a hold of his hand to have his entire attention. “Trust me when I tell you there’s a better way to go about all of this. You can make a comeback. You can prove you aren’t weak or pathetic. You can prove that you aren’t a joke as long as you do things the right way. Do things the right way. Go out there and give it all you got. I know for a fact you’ll leave champion, and who knows you may even be able to win some fans back.”
“Fuck the fans!”
Harris shouted out in the middle of the restaurant. It certainly got several people looking at him. Jeanette just glared at him as she was very pleased with him making a scene. However she hadn’t seen a ‘scene’ just yet but she was certainly about to. Harris just started going off from that point.
“Fuck the fans, fuck the people that support me, and fuck the people that don’t support me. I didn’t get into this business for them. I didn’t get in this business for their approval. I didn’t get in this business for anyone aside from myself. And I got into this business because I wanted to be the very best wrestler that has ever been seen. For twelve years I busted my ass off to be just that. I have main evented all over the world. I have held countless titles. I have held more World Championships than pretty much everyone that ever entered this business. I have been in more Hall of Fames than I can count. I am without a doubt a legend of this industry. That’s how hard I worked and that’s just how good I am.”
“Michael, would you calm down? I never said that you wasn’t great nor did I ever say you didn’t work hard to get where you are. I just said that I agree you’ve slipped in the ranks but doing what you have planned isn’t the answer. You don’t need to go this far to prove anything to anyone. If you’d just actually calm down and hear me out then you’d know what I am saying. This isn’t the answer and you don’t need to go this far with things.”
“Who the hell are you to tell me anything? In case you forgot it was me that coached you. It was me that trained you. It was me that made you the superstar you turned out to be. Don’t go around telling me what I need to do or don’t need to do when you are below me.” Jeanette just looked at Harris completely stunned. “I know what’s best for me. I have done it for years. I need to be that guy again. I need to tear Dionysus apart limb from limb. I need to spill his blood. I need to leave him lying in the center a broken mess that is clinging onto not just his career but his life in general. That’s what I need to be. That’s how I need to be and one way or another come Sunday night. I will be that person. I will not be a joke. I will become the new Xtreme Champion, and I will end John Dionysus!”
With that being said Harris got up from the table pretty pissed off. He turned his back on his longtime friend and stormed right on out of the restaurant leaving Jeanette sitting there confused. She wasn’t sure what she said that set him off or what was going to happen now. Obviously though Harris was starting to lose his mind and he was starting to let this consume his every thought, his every movement, and his every action. If he didn’t win at Mayhem, there was a good chance this could send him spiraling out of control and then there would be no coming back from that. One could only hope that it ended well for the self-proclaimed Best To Ever Exist.
[ THE JOKE IS OVER ]
We were just a few hours away from APW’s Mayhem event that would be taking place live from Montreal, Quebec. It was going to be a momentous night seeing as history would be made one way or another. With that being said there was a particular superstar that would be competing tonight at Mayhem that wanted to express his views on this very night. That superstar just happened to be the Best To Ever Exist: Michael Harris. One could only assume what was going to come out of his mouth.
As the scene opened up the cameras caught Harris sitting there on the balcony of his hotel room enjoying himself a nice cup of coffee. It was pretty early in the morning and with a long day ahead of him. Obviously he was going to need something to wake him up. His attention quickly went to the cameras as he began speaking in a very low and mild tone of voice.
“For the last four months I have been contracted under APW. I have done wonders for this company. Any time that I was on television the ratings went up. Every single time I stepped into the ring I put on the best performance of the night. Nine times out of ten every match I competed in I walked out the winner. I have without a doubt came into this company and put it on my back to take it to level it’s never been. I have basically become the present and the future of this company much to the dislike of the people in charge around here.”
That was a statement that people really couldn’t argue against. Sure there would be people that wanted to argue against it and there would be a lot of people that considered Harris an egotistical prick for hyping himself up like that. Truth be told though as much as he was an egotistical prick he was right and that was the worst part about it.
“Now with that being said I have been doing this for twelve years. Twelve long years and I have pretty much done everything there is to be. I’ve held every title there is to hold. For crying out loud I am a twenty one time World Heavyweight Champion and I know for a fact that accomplishment is untouchable. There isn’t a single guy in this locker-room that has ever come close to reaching a milestone like that.” He simply shook his head to the side implying no to back up his statement. “And the time that I have been in this company, much to my surprise as well as much to my dislike I have not held a championship here under APW. That is just pathetic. It is stupid and it makes me look weak which in return does nothing but piss me off. But as much as it pisses me off I know that I am the one to blame for not being champion.”
This was certainly something that was going to catch a lot of people off guard. In the twelve years that Harris has been doing this. He had never put the blame on himself. He had never owned up to any faults. Instead he pointed fingers at people and be sure that he made it clear they were at fault. As shocking as this was not everyone was going to buy it and there had to be something underhanded taking place.
“See it isn’t like I haven’t had the opportunity to become champion because I have had that chance. Just at RassleMania I had a chance to become the Xtreme Champion at the biggest stage that APW has to offer. I should have left champion back then but I didn’t and I am to blame for that. I didn’t leave champion because I got soft. I didn’t leave champion because I became pathetic. Worse of all though I didn’t leave champion because I became a joke and that was made crystal clear when I left John Dionysus not beat me once, but beat me twice and he beat me when it mattered the most. That’s just unacceptable.” Harris shook his head a little more as the clear disapproval was there and starting to build up within him. “The saddest part about it all is Dionysus thinks that he is the reason why he beat me. He thinks he’s the reason why he holds victories over him. He thinks he is the reason that he is still champion and that isn’t the case. I beat myself. I am the reason he holds victories over me. I am the reason that he still holds that championship. I am the one that didn’t finish the job when I should have, but that isn’t going to be an issue anymore.”
Harris simply shook his head to the side a little bit. From that statement made by him there was obviously something up his sleeve. What it was however was the question? And it was a question that people demanded to know the answer too. Although it wasn’t going to be long till they got to hear the answer with the Untouchable One being a straight forward egotistical prick that took pride in all his work. He was bound to spill it to the world.
“I made it clear just a few days ago that when Dionysus and I stepped into the ring with each other. That one way or another I was going to put a complete an end to this situation, but most importantly put a complete end to him. I have decided that because I refuse to consider being considered weak, pathetic, and joke. I refuse to let people laugh at me and I refuse to let you ignorant asses assume that I can’t hack it anymore. Your opinions don’t mean a damn thing to me but I’ll be damned if I let you end up being right. That will not ever happen under any circumstance. And sure I realize that you morons just assume I am just talking out my ass and that’s fine. I enjoy proving people wrong obviously and all you need to do is pay attention to tonight’s match. Just as soon as I step through those ring ropes. It’s all business and all about putting an end to things once and for all.”
It seemed that Harris was sticking to his story. A few days ago when he cut his promo he vowed to put a complete end to things. He vowed to put the final nail in the coffin when it came to Dionysus. Then again though that had been said before and Harris failed to get the job done. Not too many people were going to take him serious but at the same time that seemed to be something he understood.
“We have been going at this for far too long Dionysus, and I have no one to blame but myself for that. The very first time we were set to compete against one another, when I attacked you before that tag match. I should have made sure that you were unable to get back up, but no I let my ego get in the way and I assumed that was enough to keep you down. That was what led to my very first loss here in APW, but never again will I make such a foolish judgment around here.” He started to lean up in the chair. “I made a foolish judgment at RassleMania. I assumed that you were more than beat up physically and that you weren’t going to stand a chance against me. I should have made sure that there was no way you were able to give me a fight at the event. I should have done far more than I did leading up that match. It was my duty to make sure that I left with the Xtreme Championship but once again I let myself down despite you having lady luck on your side. Once again I fell victim to a loss to you and I made myself look like an even bigger joke seeing as it was a loss that actually mattered.” People were starting to get a vibe they have never felt before with him. His seriousness was crystal clear. “And then I had a chance to make it all right. That chance being when I kicked your head as violently as I could against that wall. That was my chance to put an end to you. That was my chance to get some much needed revenge. It was my chance to prove I wasn’t a joke and it was my chance to put you where I felt you belong. Obviously I blew my chance to do that, seeing as you ended up coming back.”
He proceeded to let out a rather large frustrated sigh. It seemed that he wasn’t very happy with any of this. All of it stemmed from what he had become and realizing that he had become quite the joke. That was unacceptable and it had always been unacceptable because he refused to let himself become something like that. Just then his eyes went right back to the cameras.
“You made the comeback much to my dislike. Not only did you make a comeback but you actually agreed to continue forward with our scheduled match for that championship you hold around your waist. But you actually upped the stakes. You demanded that it be a last man standing match. That’s when it became very clear to me despite the mind games I’ve played on you and despite the mental as well as physical beat downs I have put you through. You aren’t afraid to get in the ring with me and you are obviously more focused than ever to beat me. That doesn’t go over very well in my book and it just slaps me in the face with reality. I see that you aren’t afraid of me and I see that you actually want to settle this. If I was what I used to be those thoughts wouldn’t be going through your mid, but seeing as I have seen that and seeing as I realized what I have become. I know what I need to do now to change it all and I assure you this much Dionysus you will not like the outcome.”
He shook his head to the side. Obviously he wouldn’t like the outcome. Who would enjoy someone beating the shit out of them? Who would enjoy someone aiming to seriously hurt them? And who would be happy with someone aiming to end their career? Dionysus had seen and been through what Harris can dish out.
“Like I said before Dionysus, you clearly haven’t done your research. You picked a last man standing match without really thinking. You just wanted to get even and you wanted to get retribution for what I did. I understand that but the moment you picked a last man standing match is the moment you seriously fucked yourself over. Because as I have done told you and the rest of these pathetic ass people. I am undefeated in the Last Man Standing Match. As a matter of fact I am the GOD of Last man Standing matches and you’re going to find that out firsthand tonight at Mayhem.” The fire in Harris’s eyes was pretty much undeniable. “You’ve honestly got no idea what you did. I am a completely different person when I step inside this kind of match. I see myself against the world. I know that there if I don’t do whatever the hell I need to do then I won’t be able to survive. That’s exactly why I am known for giving people concussions due to hitting them so hard with foreign objects it puts a screaming halt to their career. That is why I am known for breaking bones to the point they were impossible to repair. I am even known for leaving people drowning in pints of their blood after competing in this match. That is how dangerous I am but, seeing as I hate you with a passion. It is pretty obvious that I am going to do way more damage to you that I have ever done to anyone else in this kind of match.”
That statement wasn’t something that would shock too many people. After all Harris had proven over time just how much he actually hates Dionysus and what lengths he’ll go to put Dionysus through hell. As well as he has proven he’ll do whatever it takes to take the championship away from him. Although as of late it seems that this is about more than just the championship to Harris.
“I am going to tell you right now I am going to enjoy anything and everything I do to you in that ring. I’ll enjoy every single time I knock you down and watch you struggle to get to your feet. I am going to every bit of blood I force you to shed. I am going to enjoy the bones I break and the muscles I tear. I am going to enjoy watching you struggle to hold your own against me. I’ll enjoy watching that championship transition from you to me. But most importantly, I am going to enjoy seeing that look in your eye as you officially realize that it’s all over for you. I’ll enjoy every last second of being the man that put an end to your career. Just like I am also going to enjoy having a little trick up my sleeve that makes all of this come together. It’ll be something that you didn’t even seen coming and it’ll be the key that puts end to you.”
Ending careers was certainly something Harris was good at. It was something that he had done for years. Ask names like Tristian Blake, Derek Manning, Darryn Dark, and so forth. They had all had their careers ended by Harris and it looked like there was going to be another name added to that long list.
“You overcame the odds before, but those days are numbered. You’ve been able to bounce back from broken ribs and a concussion to fight me and beat me, but that will no longer happen. Just like I am not longer going to be considered weak and pathetic. Just like I will no longer be considered the joke of this company. Along with career all of that ends tonight. I’ll take that championship and then I’ll go on to take my place in APW history because that’s what legends like myself do. I’m going to do that all because I can and all because…”
Just then Harris took a moment to pause. It was crystal clear what was about to come out of his mouth. It was his signature catchphrase and it was something that he had been saying for years. His eyes narrowed super hard and then the Untouchable One shouted his final message out at the top of his lungs.
“I AM SIMPLY BETTER THAN YOU!”
On that note there was nothing else to say, but what came next was something that would shock a lot of people. Harris drew back his fist and punched the camera lens causing it to shatter. At the same time it caused the video to be cut off right then and there. Clearly frustration had set in on him and clearly he wasn’t going to allow this to continue. He was done being pathetic and weak. He was done being considered a joke. Most importantly though he was done failing and he was done with John Dionysus’s shit. Harris had a plan and it seemed like something that was solid proof. Rather or not it was actually going to come true was the thing that people would have to wait and see till later on tonight. However the one thing that was for sure was the fact this match was going to be brutal and it was a match that would forever change the landscape of APW.
+++ +++ +++
Harris and Dionysus had been built up as one of the best feuds going in APW. It might not get as much praise as said feuds like CJ Gates versus Kurt Noble or Terry Marvin versus Keaton Saint. It was still a damn good feud that just happened to be overlooked by a lot of people but when the two of them stepped into the ring with each other on Sunday night. Their feud would shine on a level it had never been before and it was also the match that very well could steal the entire show.
It was obvious that Harris was going to show up on Sunday night with the intentions on seriously hurting and injuring John Dionysus. He was going to take the title but he was going to take more than just that. He was going to take away Dionysus’s career which would essentially be ruining his entire life. It would do that because if Harris took away Dionysus’s career that meant he was taking away his source of many. He was taking away the only thing he was good at. He was overall taking away Dionysus’s livelihood and that would be something the Xtreme Champion wasn’t okay with in the least bit.
On the flip side to it all Dionysus wanted revenge. He wanted to make Harris pay for anything and everything that has taken place. He wanted to make sure that Harris was put in his place and he wanted to make sure that Harris didn’t achieve any true success in APW. The only way that was even remotely possible was by making sure that Harris didn’t leave with his Xtreme Champion and by beating Harris in one of the two matches that he was undefeated in. It wouldn’t be an easy task but Dionysus could make it happen. He had beaten Harris twice before and he was clearly sick of his crap.
No matter what though, these two were going to come to ahead. History would be made, bodies would be broken, the feud would come to an end, and there would only be one LAST MAN STANDING at the end.[/ul]
