I knew that it would not take long. From the moment I decided to sign on the dotted line and become an officially contracted APW superstar, I knew that eventually glory would be mine. A man of my talents would not have to wait long in order to get a title shot. And here we are, two pay per views later, and the time has arrived. No battle royals, no clusterfuck tag matches. Just me one on one against Anthony Bailey, with the Tap Out Championship on the line. Oh, how glorious! Of course, the odds happen to be against me; the wave of hype that Bailey has had as of late, coasting on victories against the biggest names on Asylum has him footloose and fancy free, and also has everyone blowing so much smoke up his ass that it's coming out of his ears. Hey, that's fine; there isn't anything wrong with that. Because when I defeat Anthony and take that championship, it will make the victory that much sweeter.
I won't humiliate you too much Bailey. I promise. ;D
The evening was quiet, just the way I liked it. My lovely fiance Jessica had stepped out for a bit, thus leaving me by myself. It was only about two days until I got my first ever title shot within APW, facing that fool Anthony Bailey for his Tap Out Championship. Bailey had spoke earlier in the week, spouting some foolishness regarding how he feels he can win based on wrestlin being a childhood passion. One of those one hundred percent phony stories that make you want to stab yourself with a spork. I decided to turn my attention to APW`s website, specifically to the section where our fans made predictions for the upcoming shows. I had found lately that I was considered a favorite in a lot of matches, as opposed to my old wrestling circles where everyone seemed to hate me. On this evening though I would get no such satisfaction.
As I clicked through page after page, post after post, it became clear. The fans, and even the stars of APW were all firmly behind Bailey. They say it`s because of his roll, and how he`s beaten guys like Jason Kash and Johnny Knuckles. Of course, everyone seems to neglect the fact I haven`t had the chance to face either of those men; what, you don`t think I could handle Knuckles or Kash? You're goddamn right I could. But still, as so often happens in my career, I am forced to make an example out of the young and inexperienced superstars, in order to give them a dose of reality. They need to realize they cannot believe in their own hype, lest their heads get too big and they get carried away. Plus, Bailey just needs a good old fashioned ass kicking.
I smirked. I really didn't think Bailey knew what he was getting into. I clicked over to the website for another promotion, known simply as Majestic Wrestling, where I also competed. On their front page was a clip of yours truly winning one of their championships, in a submission match no less. I clicked on the video, grabbing the glass of rum 'n' coke I had left undisturbed until now. I savored every moment of the video, as I fought a long time rival, a man who touted himself as a submission expert. He battled me tooth and nail, but in the end it was my experience, and his lack of it, that allowed me to gain the upper hand on him, and thus claim his title. This was a veteran, a guy who came back off injury and was right up in my grill; people still say that right? Anyway, this big shot thought he could handle me, yet he was conquered in his own match. I could only gleefully imagine what I could do to Bailey in the same situation. As a matter of fact, I decided to show him. I logged onto my rarely used twitter account.
CrownlessKingMatlock @anthonyrbailey majesticwrestling.com/matlockVSpeterson That's you come Mayhem Bailey; tapping out like a bitch. Deal with it!
So now it has come to pass. The time in which Matt Matlock battles for and claims his first ever championship within APW; the first of many championships mind you. Pardon me if I'm being overzealous; after all, isn't everyone and their dog pulling for Bailey to win? Oh, Anthony Bailey has this one in the bag. Anthony Bailey is on a roll; Matlock is a worthy opponent but he's out matched, blah blah blah. I haven't seen a rookie with so much smoke being blown up his ass in a long, long time. I'll tell ya Bailey, that shit ain't healthy. You get a big head, you're gonna start walking on clouds. You walk on clouds, then when someone pops your big head and you fall down, it's gonna hurt. So I'm gonna deflate you now, so when you fall, you won't land so hard. Hell, maybe you don't give a damn. After all, both Kash & Knuckles are promising you title shots if they somehow manage to win come the pay per view. I didn't realize title shots were handed out like candy to rookies with fluke victories. Don't get me wrong. It is somewhat impressive you were able to beat the world champion and his contender. Me? Well, I've never been given the chance to since I'm in a tag match every other Asylum. You give me the chance, and I'll roll with it. How does the saying go? Anything you can do, I can do better.
So hopefully you had a good Mother's Day and you enjoyed watching Andy Griffith solve crimes for hours on end. I'm just curious as to why you brought that up though. Why does what you do with your mother deserve to be mentioned in context of our match? It is just because she happens to like the show "Matlock' and you're facing me? Are you attempting to be witty, clever, or funny? Whatever you were attempting to do, you failed and you failed hard. The "Matlock" reference is so overdone and overplayed, it's almost to the point of nausea. You are probably close to being maybe the one thousandth person to make reference to that. But hey, when you're a rookie who has no real promo skills, I guess it's fine. You don't know any better, and you don't have any real material. After all, you did spend more time talking about your mother and your world title match then you did about me.
You see, yeah, I did beat Frank Cannon to get a shot at your title. I know, not the most worthy of opponents. But it isn`t like I had chose him; that`s who was given to me as food, I mean as an opponent. I conquered him, and now I am for your title. Oh and I do plan on fully capitalizing on the opportunity. After all, who do you think I am? Some "wet behind the ears" rookie?
I should have the people on my side, at least more then you Tony. You see Canadians are my people. I'm the best Canadian wrestler to come around in a long time. And hey, let's face it. With Benoit gone, Bret retired, Edge injured, who`s really left besides Jericho? That's when the people of the glorious nation of Canada, the best place to live on Earth, look to Matt Matlock to deliver a classic match and championship gold. Montreal isn't my favorite city, but those fans are Canadian bred and patriotic, just like me. Those fans know who I am, and I don't have to "sell" them on how worthy of a contender I am. Again, that's something that shows how much of a rookie you are my friend. You shouldn't have to ask your opponent to sell themselves as a worthy contender. You should automatically assume they are, after all, why would they be a contender otherwise? You see, without me, you wouldn't know these things. Hell, you should be grateful.
A lifelong passion for the business is a good thing, ensuring you do love this business and knowing it's what you want to do in life. You can be motivated by what you saw as a kid, and be motivated because now you can give others the experience that you were given. But you need more then passion and motivation to be a 'role model' to get ahead. Hell, in all honesty, it won't take more then "familiarity with the squared circle" to beat you. Nine times out of ten, experience wins out.
You see what motivates me Bailey, is simply the desire to be the best. For the majority of the past nine years I've proven I'm the best in the places I come from. The men and women I wrestled, the places I wrestled, and the titles I won, weren't enough. I'm in APW to prove myself all over again to a legion of fans and stars who aren't intimately familar with me. I've been all the way to the top before Bailey. I've held championships like the one you hold about a dozen times more then you have. And you? You're no different then any other other rookie I've come across in my career. You have the talent, but your lack of experience and the fact you have yourself a bit of an ego is going to be what ends you. Granted, as you said, I don't know what you are truly capable of until I get in the ring with you. Heh, but boy, you have no idea what you're in for when you get in the ring with me. But hey, you're young, so I'll go easy on you.
Or maybe I'll just kick your teeth down your throat and watch you cry like a bitch. Get ready to learn what nine years of experience feels like, kid.
I won't humiliate you too much Bailey. I promise. ;D
