• SYKED OUT TV: LONG LIVE GODZILLA •
In about twenty four hours APW would be hosting their bi-weekly show Asylum. On this very show the Test for the Best tournament would continue onward. One of the most talked about matches involving the tournament happened to be Johnny Sykes versus Sally Talfourd. It was likely to be the match of the night and it would certainly be the match that stole the show.
As the cameras opened up though, they found themselves in yet another awkward setting. They happened to open up in the middle of an empty movie theater but the surprising part about all of this was the fact the nineteen ninety eight version of Godzilla happened to be playing on the big screen.
Just then the cameras cut over to see Johnny Sykes sitting there enjoying the movie with a big box of popcorn and a huge bottle of mountain dew. It didn’t take him very long at all to notice the cameras being there. He popped some of the popcorn in his mouth before beginning to speak without taking his eyes off the movie.
Johnny Sykes: From what I hear the first episode of Syked Out Television got such high ratings on youtube. I decided to go ahead and try my hand at being an internet sensation. Thus the very reason that we are doing a second episode but seeing as I have been wanting to watch Godzilla and I have limited time before tomorrow’s night big event. I figured why the heck not combine the two and make one of the best web shows ever!
Sykes briefly took a moment to take a sip out of his mountain dew bottle. Despite the camera not being on the big screen you could hear all the commotion and what not going on in the movie. Godzilla roaring, people screaming, and things getting destroyed was being picked up by the video of the cameras pretty clearly.
Johnny Sykes: At this point though I am sure people get the point to these little web shows. It is giving me a chance to really share my views and my thoughts on the biggest match of my career. I know to some that’s pretty pathetic for a guy that’s been in this business as long as I have but I refuse to BS you people. you’ve stood by me this long and I have faith you’ll continue to stand by me no matter the situation. It’s the truth, this is that match of my career.
He was being as straight up and honest. That was quite the good quality to have especially when ninety percent of people involved with the business lied to the fans. Even those that would considered the “fan favorites” but Sykes refused and that was a promise he had made to himself a very long time ago.
Johnny Sykes: It is the biggest match of my career because of what’s all at stake. You see if I go on to win this match against Sally. Not only do I push forward in this tournament but I prove that I have what it takes to hang with some of the best. I prove that I am much more than Sally wrote me off as. I prove that I could be the future. Basically I am in a position where I have everything to gain but everything to lose at the same time. Sally herself doesn’t happen to be in that position which is why I have began to understand her attitude with this match.
Of course when you are logically thinking, if a person doesn’t have much to lose if anything at all to lose in a situation like this. It is clear that they are going to talk a lot of smack and it is clear that their attitude is going to be a little more arrogant than what it would be if they too had something on the line. Thankfully for the Original Pranksta he was able to put it all together.
Johnny Sykes: Just because in your opinion you have nothing to lose besides a spot in this tournament. I am not a threat to you, least not when it comes to actually beating you. Because of this not having anything to lose logic I am unoriginal. I am the same as anyone and everyone else you have ever faced and defeated. Just because in your opinion I have nothing to lose, I am viewed as good but not great and that I have a long way to go before I ever reach that level of greatness. Well here’s the thing Sally, your opinion is your opinions and you might not have much to lose but I’m making damn sure I gain everything I deserve as well as everything I have ever wanted.
At the moment what people were hearing was a pretty determined Pittsburgh Jackass. There was nothing wrong with being determined especially when it could work out greatly in his favor. It was all a matter of time now and seeing in rather not that would actually happen.
Johnny Sykes: I entered this business in two thousand five and from that moment on. I have constantly had people tell me the same things you’ve said. I have also heard other things that didn’t seem to make no sense. I was told I wasn’t great, I didn’t have the IT factor, I wasn’t very original, I was too small, I didn’t have the chemistry, and the list goes on. I was denied and robbed of opportunities time and time again because of the logic of others and the opinions of others but I finally said enough was enough and decided to do something about it.
As sad as it might seem to a lot of people, this was also the truth. For so long Sykes had been doubted. He had been told that he would never be anything in this business and he had been told he would never reach that main event level, but it seemed now he was more determined than ever to defy the odds and defy what others have claimed about him.
Johnny Sykes: Upon coming back to the wresting business and upon debuting here in APW. I refused to wait until someone shot me down. I refused to wait around and see if I would be given a chance or an opportunity. I refused to be that kid that was okay with never going the distance and doing what he has always wanted to do in this business. I came into APW with the intentions of being the best and so far I am proving that I might just be that. Least I know I am proving I have a bright future here and that bright future can turn into so much more should I be able to knock you out of this tournament Sally. Will it be easy? Of course it won’t but I personally believe I want it more than you do. Soon enough I’ll be proving it.
Sykes nodded his head to back up his statements. It had already been established that Sykes was going to have a hard time proving himself against Sally. Neither one of them would be willing to back down from each other and they’d both literally give everything that had in the fight to the death so to speak but in the end only one of them could win. At this point in his opinion it was going to be him but only time would truly tell.
Johnny Sykes: I admit that I am just a little jealous of you. I say that because you have overcame the odds that I am trying to come. You have been to the top of the mountain. You’ve had your time as a World Heavyweight Champion. You have proven you are a headliner and you have proven that you are a main eventer. Everything I have ever wanted you have had. I am jealous of that but I’d never be the type to take that away from someone. You earned your spot there and you deserve it, but you can surely understand my struggle and know what it’s like to be in position.
That was also another true statement. There was no way that Sally could deny something like that. Every single person that ends this business is in that spot at some point or another. Sally was certainly there in the beginning of her career but she found a way to overcome the odds. Now it was Sykes in that position and he had to find a way to overcome them much like she did. Again not an easy task but he was determined to pull it all off.
Johnny Sykes: Truth be told as pathetic as it might be to you or even everyone else. All I have right now is Test for the Best. If I lose and if I get eliminated. It’s right back to square won. It’s right back to the bottom. It’s right back to being a nobody here in APW and it’ll right back to the drawing board with trying to figure out a plan to reach the top. I cannot and I will not allow myself to drop back that far when I am as close as I am now. You don’t have to like it and you can hate me for all you want in the end, but this is my chance. This is my opportunity and I am taking it. after tomorrow night, your ass is out of this tournament and there’s not much you can do about it.
That was quite the bold statement made by Sykes. It was a statement that proved that he had balls, proved that he believed in himself, and proved that he was going to do anything as well as everything to make sure he got the job done. At the same time it could be statements that get his ass kicked and land him in some pretty deep water but that was a chance he was going to have to take. On that note he started to speak once again but for the final time of the evening.
Johnny Sykes: Here is how you need to look at things Sally. You are a citizen here in the big world of APW and I happen to be the ten foot monster known as Godzilla. No matter how hard you try to be a hero. No matter how hard you try to defeat me. No matter how hard you try to save your world. In the end I’ll rip through this world and I’ll see to it that you cease to exist. Basically in other words Sally… LONG LIVE GODZILLA!
As those last words came out of the mouth the cameras cut over to big screen in order to see Godzilla literally destroying everything in his path. It couldn’t have been timed any better with how he worded things and how he just happened to want to end this entire promo. That’s when the cameras slowly but surely began to fade on out until everything went all static like.
After all that has been said between these two over the last couple of days. It was a given that the two of them were going to literally give it everything they had when they actually got a chance to get in the ring with each other. Not just that though, it was actually going to be a good match between them. In the end however only one of them could win and continue on with their quest to be the best. Which one would it be? You’d just have to tune into Asylum tomorrow night to find out!
