Test for the Best was one of the biggest events of the year for APW. On this night the Test for the Best tournament continued and a winner of the entire thing would eventually be decided. The winner of course depending on what brand they were on would get a shot at either the APW Undisputed Championship or the APW World Heavyweight Championship. It was truly going to be a special night for someone.
Of course there were other things that would be taking place on the card. Such as Jason Kash defending his World Heavyweight Championship against Anthony Bailey, then Noble-Hart would be getting a chance to take the Tag Team Championships from The Syndicate. Hell, even the Meltdown Brand was getting a chance to shine on the card. Evan Envi was scheduled to defend his North American Championship against Carmen Riva. Pretty stacked card from top to bottom when looked at it overall.
However as one could expect there was always that one person that wasn’t happy with things, and that person in this case happened to be Michael Harris. It seems that Mayhem last month was the beginning of the end for Harris around the likes of APW. He failed to beat Dionysus then. He came back qualified for the Test for the Best tournament but then a week later he was right back out of it. Then this past week on Overdrive, Harris lost to Nick Watson which is something that shouldn’t have happened.
And now in his hometown, Harris will team up with three others from Overdrive to take on four men from Asylum in the pre-show of the Test for the Best pay per view. That certainly is a big drop in the ranks. Harris went from competing on the main card in a championship match last month, to just being on the pre-show this much. It’s time to start thinking about things and maybe it’s time for him to start switching things up.
Despite Harris coming up short and despite Harris’s attitude likely not going to be in a good mood when it comes to this match. It isn’t going to change the fact that Harris will show up for the match on that Sunday, and he will show up with the intentions of destroying everything in his path. Harris would see to it that one way or another he got the win. He’d see to it that one way or the other he was the man with the all the attention on him. He’d see to it that he proved once again he was better than everyone else!
In a few days APW would be hosting their Test for the Best tournament. It was meant to be one of the biggest events of the year for the company. However there was a certain superstar that wasn’t going to get a chance to really shine on that big event. after all this superstar was being tossed in the pre-show and in his opinion being made to look like a total joke. That superstar just happened to be the self-proclaimed Best to ever Exist; Michael Harris.
Our cameras opened up to an empty Wrigley Field. A few hours ago this venue was packed for a Cubs game but here it was later in the afternoon and the game was over. Everyone had gone home, well everyone but Harris. He sat there in one of the seats of the empty arena and just looked out at the field where the ball players would have been had a game been going on. Without even looking over at the cameras Harris started speaking rather quickly.
Michael Harris: Chicago, Illinois happens to be my hometown. It happens to be the city I got my wrestling career started it. It happens to be the city I had my first match in. It also the city I won my first world championship in and the very city that I was inducted into my very first Hall of Fame. This city means a lot to me and it means a lot to my career.
Much to the surprise of many seeing as Harris was known for being a liar and known for swinging things into his favor, they would be shocked to hear that these comments actually held some truth to them. However there had to be a point to where he was going with things.
Michael Harris: But despite how much it means to me and to my career. It doesn’t stop APW from being the biased pricks that they are. It doesn’t stop President Jeff from robbing me of a spot on the main card. Instead he books me in the pre-show. He places me in a tag match that makes no sense and is a complete waste of time. President Jeff puts me in this match that won’t be televised and robs me of the moment I deserve in my hometown. It just proves just how poorly talented people are treated around here.
Not very many people would agree with his logic at all. It wasn’t a no brainer that Harris was just trying to slander President Jeff and APW based on the simple fact he wasn’t placed on the card where he felt he should be. Truth was he had a chance and he blew it when he lost to Terry Marvin.
Michael Harris: I don’t deserve to be robbed. I don’t deserve to be screwed over. I don’t deserve to be on the pre-show competing in a match that isn’t worth my time, but that’s exactly what’s going to happen. Things aren’t going to change and it pisses me off to no end. I have to sit there and lead three other losers to a victory over four rejects from the Asylum brand. I basically just can’t win at all when it comes to Sunday night’ Test for the Best.
It was clear that Harris was rather frustrated with the situation. However there was nothing that could be done about it. Many would tell him to consider himself lucky that he actually got booked at all for the event. After all the moment he lost Test for the Best was the moment a lot of things were going to be different for him.
Michael Harris: Out of everyone on my team the only person I know is Nick Watson, and I really don’t know him like that. I just know the kid is a goddamn loser that got lucky on Overdrive when he pinned me in the center of the ring. Mark Mania and Slade Craven are just people that are filler partners. It isn’t like they are going to be any real use to me when we get out in that ring. Granted neither will Watson, so basically I am on my own for this entire match.
Now this is where people would start to get confused. If Harris was half as good as he says he was then he wouldn’t need tag partners. Yet here he was complaining about being on his own. Things truly had changed with him over the last couple of weeks and he has become more ‘whiney’ than usual.
Michael Harris: Despite being alone it isn’t really like I’ll need tag partners to begin with. Going up against Johnny Sykes, Gubayama Takagi, Warren Peace, and Phil Atkens isn’t much of a challenge at all. You just have to take one look at the team and realize that they are all a bunch of jokes. Takagi and Peace have the tendency of not showing up or at least just not putting their best efforts into things. That right there puts them at a huge disadvantage. It makes them look weaker than they already did.
Harris just shook his head from one side to the other. It didn’t come off as a surprise that he believe that the match was already won. Nor did it come off as a surprise that he would have some ill words to say about his opponents. After all Harris never could give anyone credit for anything aside from himself.
Michael Harris: Then there would be Phil Atkens, you know I don’t really get the hype this guy gets from people. I was never able to buy into him or any of the hype he gets. I always thought of the guy as nothing more than a loud mouth with an undeserved ego. Not to mention if you think about it what has the guy really done around here, I mean of course besides getting lost in the shuffle and just being another wrestler around here. That’s all he’s done and that’s all he’ll ever do. He’ll never have the talent to come every close to beating me.
Not exactly one of the most truthful statements to ever come out of his mouth. Phil Atkens might not be the most accomplished person around APW or anything like that. However it didn’t mean that he was less than talented and it didn’t mean that he wasn’t going to be able to defeat Harris. After all it’s already been proven to the Untouchable One that on any given night. He could lose.
Michael Harris: And then there is Johnny Sykes. I don’t think it is any secret at all that Sykes and I go way back. Just like I don’t think it’s any secret that the two of us do not like each other. There has been a rivalry between the two of us for years and every single time the two of us have found ourselves against each other. Sykes has lost and despite the idiots that have decided to back him around here in APW. It is going to be a repeating process when we step into the ring with each other at Test for the Best. Sykes, you will continue to be my personal bitch.
Harris continued to look out over the baseball field. He didn’t feel like the cameras were worth his entire attention. After all the only reason this promo was taking place was due to the fact he was contractually obligated to cut one before every match, and the fact that he was competing in a shitty match which forced him to go off the way he was at this moment.
Michael Harris: Single handily and one by one. I’ll pick apart every single man in this match. I’ll prove that I am better than anyone that the Asylum brand has to offer. I will prove that I am the best that Overdrive has when I lead the three losers I am stuck with to a victory. Most importantly though, I am going to prove with just this simple win that I am the best thing APW has going for it and that President Jeff is making the biggest mistake of his life by not giving me the spotlight I deserve. I have said it once before and I’ll say it again. This shit keeps up and APW is going to lose the best thing it ever had.
It wasn’t much of a surprise once again that Harris was hyping himself up to be more than what he really was. Not a single person would really buy into him being that great or him getting the job done like he was trying to claim. However at the same time, he was none for proving people wrong this could be one of those times.
Michael Harris: I will not stand for this anymore. I am sick of the disrespect. I am sick of being overlooked. I am sick of being held down and I am sick of being robbed of the spotlight I deserve. I am not joking when I say that this is the final straw. After Test for the Best, if things don’t change and if I don’t start getting the respect that I rightfully deserve. I am going to officially wash my hands of APW and not look back once. Things will either change or like I said APW will have lost the GREATEST thing to walk through their doors and that’s a promise!
On that note Harris pushed himself up from where he was sitting and started to walk down the aisle with the intentions of leaving Wrigley Field. He had really put people on notice with this attitude of his and he had really put APW on notice because it didn’t seem that he was playing around anymore. He meant serious business and if things weren’t taken seriously, there was going to be some hell to pay around here. None the less though, Harris was showing up on Sunday night with one goal in mind and one goal make sure he had his hand raised in victory!
