( ALL ABOUT THE GAMBLE )

It was exactly twenty four hours before Asylum was set to take place and that’s exactly why Johnny Sykes could be spotted walking through one of the many famous casinos around. However he wasn’t alone as he happened to be spotted with his friend, former tag partner, and wrestling legend: David Xavier Christensen. Both men causally strolled along while speaking to one another.
David Xavier Christensen: You’re twenty six and have never gambled once?
Johnny Sykes: Nope.
David Xavier Christensen: Do you even know how to play black jack?
Johnny Sykes: No.
David Xavier Christensen: Texas hold ‘em?
Johnny Sykes: Nahh.
David Xavier Christensen: What about working a slot machine? Do you know how that works?
Johnny Sykes: Nope can’t say that I have.
At that moment David stopped in his tracks just looking at Sykes. All he could do was shake his head a little bit to the side. However when he thought about it, it wasn’t like it was a huge shock or anything.
David Xavier Christensen: We’re in Vegas kid. Sure I understand that you are here to have a match but you should also enjoy your time here. Kick back and relax a little bit.
Johnny Sykes: There is really no time for that Davey. I’m more focused on winning this match tomorrow night and proving everyone wrong. That’s my goal.
David Xavier Christensen: Never thought I would see the day where you were focused like I used to be. Look Johnny, I’m going to give you a little bit of advice kid. You can either take it or you can leave it. I get where you are trying to go with things. I get what you are trying to do. I know that you want to get back on track and you want people to take you seriously. But you also need to understand life is all about the gamble.
Sykes looked at his friend with his eyebrow raised just a little bit. It was unclear to him where David was going with things. However David wasn’t going to leave him in the dark or anything like that.
David Xavier Christensen: In life and in this business you always have to gamble. You always have to take risks. You should already know that by now. You have never been one to play it safe. Every time you have taken to the sky in that ring. There was no guarantee it would work. Sometimes, it worked and sometimes it didn’t. That’s just the roll of the dice.
Johnny Sykes: What are you trying to say dude? I am not exactly following right about now.
David Xavier Christensen: I am saying that just because you are trying to get all of that accomplished and just because this is a big match with a lot on the line. Don’t let it change who you are. Don’t let it hold you back or hinder you in any way. I expect to see you get in that ring and take more gambles than some token black guy and some toothless wonder. I expect you to take risks and at the end of the night I expect you to be the man set to take on Michael Callahan for that championship of his.
Johnny Sykes: I guess I see your point dude. Maybe I have been playing it a little too safe over the last couple weeks. Like I said though I was sick of being forgotten about and being wrote off. I had to get myself back where I wanted to be and I wanted to be taken seriously again. Maybe I did lose sense of who I was for a split second but that won’t be the case when I get in the ring tomorrow.
David Xavier Christensen: Good, now that we have gotten that out of the way. You’re coming with me. I am going to show you what it is like to win some real money. That’s of course if you got the luck and the skill that I do.
That’s when David grabbed a hold of Sykes by his shoulder and started to lead him off to the gambling area of the casinos. Clearly the two of them were setting off to have a good night tonight but tomorrow night was a different story. Tomorrow night was all about business and Sykes was going to have to step up in order to swing things in his favor.

It was the morning before Asylum and the official APW cameras crew happened to be set up in the hotel room of one Johnny Sykes. He was standing there with a smirk on his face and a banana in one hand. After taking one bite out of the banana Sykes’s attention went directly to the cameras as he began speaking.
Johnny Sykes: In less than eight hours I find myself right back in the ring for APW. I’m right back at the Asylum so to speak and waiting for me is one of the biggest challenges since I got here. As well as one of the biggest challenges of my entire career. After all I’ll be facing Jason Kash and Jair Hopkins in which the winner becomes the new number one contender for Mikey Callahan’s championship. It’s a big deal at least for me anyway.
He slightly nodded his head just a little bit in order to back up his point just a little bit more.
Johnny Sykes: As soon as this match was announced it has been a constant topic among wrestling fans and the wrestling world. Despite having a large fan and despite a lot of people standing behind me, I have heard nothing but negative things about me when it comes to this match. It seems that at least ninety percent of people think Captain Toothless is going to win the match. Of course that’s simply based off the fact that he is a ‘big’ name around here and he is a former world champ.
Sykes stood there shaking his head just a little bit. It was pretty obvious that the frustration was starting to build up in him. However he was one to usually keep himself pretty cool.
Johnny Sykes: I get why people are behind him winning more than they are me, but allow me to point out a little something. He had a chance to be number one contender for another title last week. He lost. Just like he lost the World Championship and you know the reason for all of that. Kash’s luck had finally ran out. I believe now that his days as a ‘big’ name around here are numbered and his bad luck is going to continue tonight when he finds another loss added to his name. Despite him thinking so poorly of me, but oh well he’ll realize his mistake soon enough.
Rather or not Kash’s luck had ran out or rather or not he had made a mistake when counting Sykes out wasn’t really relevant. At least it wouldn’t be until it was proven when the two of them ended up in the ring with each other.
Johnny Sykes: And now that leaves Jair—Jair Binks. I can’t really knock the kid too much. He is an up and comer. He seems to be hungrier than ever. Not to mention his record isn’t that bad. He seems to have all the right tools to make him a star around APW and if anyone has a better chance at winning this match than me. I’d say it would be this guy, but there is a bit of a down side for Jair-Jair. Rather he wants to admit it or not. He is still a rookie, and he is still green. That’s going to hold him back big time.
Now this was something that he did have a small point with. Hopkins wasn’t established as Sykes or even as Kash for that matter. He had a while to go and that very well could be the think that cost him a win in this match.
Johnny Sykes: You aren’t quite on the level that you need to be kiddo. You might be a solid wrestler right now and you might be heading in the right direction of being the next big thing to ever hit APW. However you aren’t there just yet and regardless of what you do in the ring tonight. I can almost guarantee what I do is going to be just a little bit better and that is going to outshine you in ways that you could never imagine. Way I see it Jair-Jair, it’s either go big or go home and I don’t think you have the balls to do that. I on the other hand do.
He once again nodded his head a little bit. It was rare that people saw Sykes display this kind of confidence. After all he was never one to get too far ahead of himself and never one to come off cocky or anything like that. However desperate times did call for desperate measures.
Johnny Sykes: I might not be the best. I might not be the coolest. I might not be the blackest. Hell, I am virtually a nobody to everyone here at APW. But in this business you should know that in a blink of an eye, a nobody can become a somebody just like that. That’s exactly what I plan on doing tonight. It might not be easy and I know what kind of challenge lies ahead of me. However it’s time to break out of my shell. It’s time to become everything I ever wanted to be and that time has come now. Like I said before, it’s either go big or it’s go home. I’m known for going big and I’m sticking with it.
At least his mind was in the right place. He knew what he wanted. He knew what he had to do to get there. He was going to do whatever it took to make sure it happened even if people were going to doubt him. It was time for him to look past that and just focus. On that note he began to speak his final words of the morning.
Johnny Sykes: I’ll leave you two and all of APW with these final words. Someone once told me that life is all about the gamble and that this business was full of risks. It made the whole YOLO thing stick out to me just a little bit more. It also made me see that I am known for gambling and known for taking risks. It’s the only reason that I have come as far as I have in such a short amount of time. I’m willing to do what neither one of you are willing to do and that’s exactly why regardless of rather the two of you like it or not. I’ll be leaving with Asylum with the victory!
For a moment or two Sykes paused as he looked right into the cameras. He was a very determined young man and now he had put himself in a position where he had to win. He couldn’t fail or it was just going to put him in a bad spot. However with that way Sykes was acting. It seemed like there was going to be no failing on his part. It was all about success from here on out.
