"Invasive Species is a species that does not naturally occur in a specific area and whose introduction does or is likely to cause economic or environmental harm or harm to human health.” - Definition of Invasive Species from Executive Order 13112 signed by President William Clinton on February 3, 1999.
While tension on the home front was beginning to wane between Anthony and Tasha after a much needed vacation to Rome, a new apprehension was being to arise. Anthony was booked to fight against Johnny Rebel at the next edition of Sunday Night Asylum. This worried him a bit because Rebel was one of three individuals to ever defeat him, the other two being Chaz Dillinger and Julius Farquhar. Would another defeat at the hands of the former Overdrive Champion cause The Promise to lose any and all hope against Sally Talfourd going into Shockwave? And speaking of Sally, how was she feeling about Bailey after the accidental chair shot heard around the world? There were so many things going through the mind of the World Heavyweight Champion.
Motivation is a vital part of Bailey’s DNA and it is essential to who he is, so it didn’t take much for him to muster any up. Seven months have passed since his debut encounter with Johnny Rebel at the Asylum Supershow and Bailey is no longer the same person he was that night in New Orleans. He’s a little more polished inside of the ring, he’s a little more experienced, and the fans now know what he is capable of. Did Bailey really have anything to worry about or was that slight splash of doubt hindering him from continuing to do what he has been doing? Whatever regimen or ritual Bailey has been doing to maintain his victories, it has been working.
{{The scene opens to the inside of Anthony Bailey’s luxurious townhouse located in St. Augustine, FL. The afternoon is warm and muggy, like the bulk of many other Florida summer days. Anthony is home alone and seated on his black leather couch typing away on his Macbook. Though he was already a homebody prior to all of the fame, he enjoyed the simple things in life like these moments. There were no busy airport terminals for him to battle through, no stiff hotel mattresses for him to lie on, and no sentiments of feeling homesick. Wearing a gray and white Zoo York T-shirt, khaki cargo shorts, and a pair of all white Nike sneakers, Anthony rises to his feet at the sound of his doorbell ringing. Removing the Macbook from his lap, he makes his way over to the front door and opens it up. He’s stunned when he sees who is standing there.}}
Unidentified Man: What’s going on nephew??!! I am finally home! I’ve missed you so much, how have you been??
Anthony being addressed as “nephew” indicates the man’s anonymous identity. It is his uncle Terrance Bailey who was locked up last summer for money laundering charges but is now apparently free. Terrance is the older brother of Anthony’s father Eddie. One entire year in jail left him with somewhat of a rough edge and the usually eloquent Anthony stands there stuttering over his words.
Anthony Bailey: Unc…but…but…but…I thought you would be doing time for years. I’m very excited to see you and glad to know that you are free, but I’m just confused! How did all of this happen??!
Terrance Bailey: How about I tell you inside…the nice cold air conditioning would do us both well.
{{Terrance flashes a smile that only Bailey men pride themselves in as Anthony scrambles to be hospitable to his favorite uncle. Terrance declines Anthony’s offering of food and drink and takes a seat on the black leather couch next to Anthony’s laptop. Anthony also has a seat on the couch as well.}}
I’m good nephew, I ate before I came so I’m pretty stuffed.
Anthony Bailey: Okay, do you need anything else?
Terrance Bailey: Well…I don’t mean to impose, but all I need is a place to crash just for the night. I thought I had my lodging taken care of with some friends of mine who live here, but those plans fell through.
Anthony Bailey: Don’t worry about it uncle Terrance. Anytime you are in St. Augustine, my home is your home.
Terrance Bailey: Thank you Anthony. Not only for the hospitality but also for not judging me regarding the whole situation. I was talking to your father on the phone before I came and I told him how proud I was of you.
Anthony Bailey: Thank you. All of my success is owed to great men like you, my father, and Frank. Without you guys, I wouldn’t be where I am or who I am.
Terrance Bailey: That means a lot…
Anthony was trying to figure out a way to ask Terrance how he is no longer behind bars but before his very eyes without being too obvious.
Anthony Bailey: Forgive me if I’m being too forward, but how are you here? I mean I hoped and I prayed for you to see the light of day soon and not waste away in a jail cell somewhere, but I’m just curious how you are here and no longer in jail.
{{Terrance smirks.}}
Terrance Bailey: Well to be honest Anthony, I don’t know the logistics of how it all worked. I hated my American Government class back in high school so I have no real idea how the law works in this country. All I know is that some guy named Michael Callahan pulled some strings with Governor Rick Scott to get me clemency. The message passed to me was something about you holding up your end of the deal so he would hold up his as well.
Anthony was more confused than before. Did the man he constantly referred to as “scumbag” really do what he’d say he would? But the deal was Terrance would be granted freedom only if Anthony settled his “qualms” with Sally and taught her a lesson. Did Callahan think the chair shot on Sally was intentional? He must have if Terrance Bailey is a free man. Anthony tried his best to hide his disorientation from his uncle.
Anthony Bailey: Oh okay…well I’m glad that everything worked out. I’ll leave you to be for a nap or whatever else you’d like to do. I have to take care of something really quick…
{{Anthony rises up from the couch and exits the room as Terrance removes his shoes and reclines in a relaxing position on the couch. The camera follows Anthony as he begins to walk towards the back patio. He walks to the opposite end of the patio and briefly gazes in the opposite direction before he turns around to face the camera.}}
What is going on here? Am I losing my mind or something?? Callahan actually did a good deed for once? And the crazy thing is that the deed doesn’t even benefit him, it benefits the Bailey family. A true pillar in our family is no longer bound inside the confines of a jail cell, but he is now a free man. I wonder what Sally thinks about all of this…man oh man, I am getting way too ahead of myself. Confronting Callahan one on one and Shockwave are both still some weeks away and if I don’t focus on imminent matters, I will find myself tangled up in a web that I am unable to be freed from.
Johnny Rebel you and you alone are the impending matter at hand. You and I have some history with one another and as I stated before, I am grateful for all of that. But do not expect the outcome of next Sunday’s Asylum to reflect the last time we crossed paths. The first time around, you were the “man” and I was the nobody. It’s kind of ironic how much things can change in only seven months. I’m not one to get drunk off of my own pride like you Rebel, but just take a look around…if you haven’t noticed I am the man. I am who the people are conversing about not you. The only times you are even mentioned is when descriptions of your championship losses to Terry Marvin and Noble-Hart are the topics of discussion.
Even pay attention to what was being articulated at the news of you joining Asylum. “Oh Rebel is joining Asylum, Bailey’s brand” or “Rebel will now have a chance to compete with guys like Bailey, etc, etc.” Asylum is a brand that I, along with a few others, helped to build up and your negative attitude won’t be tolerated. You are coming into a territory that I helped to shape and mold. My Environmental Science teacher at Flagler College would’ve described you as an invasive species; a species whose presence causes harm to the ecosystem. The fear of the outcome from what the invasive species can actually do might be present in a few of the megastars and even the fans, but have no fear because the species will be immediately eradicated.
You do in fact remind me of a black rat, one of the world’s worst invasive species. You’re a rodent like creature who attempts to gnaw at my success, to consume the worthwhile seeds that I am planting, and to spread the disease of arrogance. All invasive species are pests and since the inception of my career, you have been one of the biggest pests that I have ever encountered. Bigger than possibly both Jason Kash and Michael Callahan combined. There’s no Sindicate to hide behind on this brand either. The only close appearance of something like that was T.R.I. and they are no longer a cohesive unit…why? Well you are looking at the reason right here.
You sit there and dog me saying how you would rather watch paint dry than to watch me but be careful what you wish for Rebel. After I crush you, you will be confined to a bed where all you are able to do is watch paint dry…dry up just like your career has. Sure you have done more in and for this business than I have up until this point, but what will that all mean in Boise? The former days of your career were more prominent and filled with reputable times, but those days are long gone and I will finish off what Marvin, Noble, and Hart started. I am the new golden boy and I will continue to show the masses that I am cut out to be right where I belong…on top.
And I’m not ignorant because I know for a fact that I am the underdog going into this thing. My months of experience pales in comparison to your years of experience, but when have I not ever been the underdog? I’ve been the underdog according to the prediction votes for nearly my entire career but that has never stopped me before. I could have easily opted out of my APW contract that night you defeated me Rebel and hightailed it out of here never to be seen or heard from again. Many have done it before and many will continue to do so in the future. But just as I have become the poster child for hope and morality, I have also become the staple for success in APW.
These are not empty words Rebel; I mean them with all of my heart and soul. You being the top dog of this business and this federation have concluded. I have now taken over that responsibility and there’s nothing that you can do about it. Call me cocky but I just see it as confidence. I can topple and have toppled every single impediment that has been placed in front of me and contrary to popular belief, Johnny Rebel won’t be any different. In case you have forgotten Johnny, I am Anthony Bailey…APW’s only Promise…the only Promise that can't be broken. I’ll be seeing you next Sunday…
