Life was sweet for new Meltdown rookie, the self-proclaimed next big thing, John Combe. His second week in the company was a bit of a disappointment when he lost the fatal four way match, but he regained his dignity last week by defeating Jayden Carmichael. This week was a harder challenge, a beat the clock challenge against Shane Borderland, with the time to beat 5 minutes and 41 seconds set by Krunk. Combe knew this time was beatable, and not only could he win himself a ticket to Shockwave, but he could stop Krunk, the man who has apparently got a problem with the young star from going to shockwave, which would be an achievement in his own way. He knew Shane Borderland was not to be over-looked as an easy win such as Jayden Carmichael, but he believed in himself.
John Combe was taking a stroll along the beach to relax his mind from all the stress, joining a huge business like this was an opportunity of a lifetime, and he didn't want to mess it up. The sun was shining, kids were building sand castles, and what annoyed Combe was that noone seemed to recognise him. He made eye contact with loads of people but not one person so much as blinked at the star. He wanted recognition. He was enraged, and left the beach to make his way to the arena.
At the arena Combe is now in his locker room preparing for the match, he is punching a punch bag to let some of the rage out, but he knew the best way to take it out was on Borderland. He continues to throw huge haymakers at the bag as it swings side to side. He sits down on a steel chair and laces his boots tighter, all kind of thoughts were running through his head, he hadn't been pinned or submitted yet in the business and tonight if he lost would just ruin his ego. He wraps tape around the gold ring on his index finger on the right hand. He takes a few more shots at the punch bag before leaving his locker room.
The camera is on Combe walking backstage as he swings his arms side to side and punches his left hand palm with his right hand. He is stopped by a gentle hand and as he jumps and gets ready to throw a punch, he realises its Hannah Storm, Hannah shrieks in fear as Combe lowers his fist and apologizes, she accepts the apology and asks Combe for an interview, he agrees. Hannah begins to speak.
"Hello Meltdown fans I'm Hannah Storm and with me right now is the new self proclaimed next big thing, the rising star, John Combe! John, if you don't mind me calling you that, alot of rumours circulating the backstage area is that you are all talk, no-one seems to take you seriously here in the business, for example, last week when you said you were going to hurt Jayden, she put you upto a pretty good fight, what are your thoughts on this?"
"Well Hannah my thoughts are pretty clear, it doesn't matter what the people backstage think of me, I'm all talk? I still haven't been pinned nor have I submitted here in the company, and I've made it clear that if anyone has a problem with me to come say it to my face, and no-one stepped forward, so if the cowards have something to say, I'm right here, let me have it."
"Fair enough, now John, tonight you compete in a one on one match with Shane Borderland, in a beat the clock challenge match, with the time to beat 5 minutes 41 seconds set by the man you haven't really seen eye to eye with, Krunk. How do you feel going into this match up?"
John Combe respectfully takes the microphone from Hannah and looks directly into the camera.
"Listen Shane, I wouldn't get your hopes up about tonight, cause I'm ready for you, I'm gonna beat you, I'm gonna beat the time, I'm gonna go to Shockwave and beat the North American Champion, Michael Lively, then we will see who is 'all talk.' As the saying goes though, actions speak louder than words, well my actions tonight are gonna do just that."
John Combe drops the microphone and walks away leaving Hannah Storm standing there with an innocent smile on her face. The scene fades to commercial.
The scene comes back from commercial with the camera panning around the Meltdown arena, the fans are on their feet holding signs representing their favourite superstars. 'Rockstar' by Dappy hits the arena sound system and the fans let off a small cheer, out from the back of the curtain emerges John Combe with a cocky smirk on his face, he arrogantly struts down the ramp, he reaches ringside and looks side to side before climbing the steel steps and entering the ring, he stands in the center of the ring and raises both arms, a ringside helper offers him a microphone which Combe ignorantly grabs out his hand and tells him to "Jog on." His music begins to die down and the fans stay silent to let the rookie speak.
"Well, well, well, what do we have here? Hello Seattle!"
The fans go crazy in respect of their hometown.
"It's been a rough week for me so far you know? Last week when I defeated Jayden Carmichael, I still got insults that the girl was able to put up a good fight, end of the day, I won the match! Doesn't matter how well she done, the result was I won! Carrying on.. alot of people are starting to doubt my ability, saying I'm all talk and such. Let me be the first to say that I am a sensational athlete! I'm not going to be modest, cause in this business, modesty gets you no-where! I'm a great wrestler, I proved that in my debut by pinning Mr. Dangerous, the so called rookie killer, that was a joke.
In my second week, yeah I never came out on top but I don't remember getting pinned, or made to tap out, do any of you guys? Didn't think so.
And finally last week when I defeated Jayden, poor Jayden, she thought she was going to beat me, not a chance in hell!
There's an old saying, 'Yesterday is the past, tommorow is the future, but today is a gift, that's why it's called the present.' A lot of people might hear that saying and think it's stupid, but I have faith in that saying, and tonight my gift will be defeating Shane Borderland and beating Krunk's time! I'm going to Shockwave and I am going to become the North American Champion! Michael Lively, is that a joke? We need a champion that is worthy of respect, that has talent, that has the get up and go that champions need, Michael Lively is a joke of a champion, and when I face him at Shockwave I'll prove that point!
Please take a moment to think about it, John Combe, North American Champion. Got a nice ring to it wouldn't you agree? I'm the perfect champion, I have the ability, mentality, physicality whatever you want from a champion, I've got it.
Another thing that gives me a mental advantage in this match is that Shane Borderland has not won a match in three weeks! I'll happily boost him up to 4 weeks. He's nothing, he's just a mere stepping stone in my career and in my path the to North American Championship.
Now another thing I wanted to bring up is that last week the fans cheered me when I fought Jayden, ever since I came here I've been abused from you guys, last week I must've shown you guys that you can't oppose me, I'll always come out on top, you beat me I'll come back with more, unfortunately ladies and gentlemen that's all I have time for but remember, confidence is the key, nothing is impossible."
Combe's theme music hits the arena sound system as he drops the mic and rolls out the ring, majority of the fans applaud him whilst a few others boo. He swaggers up the ramp and as he reaches the stair he raises both arms before heading back through the curtain.
John Combe happy with himself after letting his thoughts be known about the Meltdown brand, relaxes in his locker room with pre-match thinking. He was trying to come up with a strategy that would end Borderland quickly, so he could show Krunk that he's the better star. All of a sudden, the lights in his locker room go out and the small tint of purple barely lights the room, Combe snaps to his feet and gets in a fighting stance automatically thinking that someone's going to attack him. There is demonic laugh echoing around the room and Combe gulps in the fear.
"Oh John, you're as pathetic as ever, you're still the cocky little man everyone back home remembers you as, you better start looking out for yourself John."
"Who the fuck are you, show yourself you coward!"
"Hahaha, soon enough you will find out who I am John, but I think I'm going to have fun with you for a while."
"I promise you mess with me I'll lay you out now tell me who you are"
"See you around, John."
The lights go back to normal as the camera is fixed on Combe's face who looks as if he's seen a ghost, he rubs his eyes and takes a quick look around his room, before bailing from the area, he runs through the backstage area to the sound booth to see if anyone's there, as he arrives he finds a the usual operator of the sound system knocked out cold with a message written on his chest 'Victim one', Combe begins to stutter saying "no" as he has a feeling he knows what's going on.
"Jason, if that's you I swear to god you can show yourself right now! I took you out once before I'll do it again now show yourself you fucking coward."
John stands in a fighting stance again but nothing happens, John seems to be struck with fear as his face goes chalk white, he runs away from the sound booth as the scene fades to commercial.
The scene comes back from commercial with John Combe speed walking through the backstage area, John arrives at his locker room and as he opens the door he lets out a little shudder, lying on the ground is his old childhood friend Lukas Kerr, with 'Victim Two' written on his chest, Combe rushes over to help him but Lukas is unconscious, John shouts for a medic which takes his time getting to the locker room, as the medic arrived he starts to treat Lukas. Combe climbs to his feet and stares directly into the camera, he walks towards it with a sadistic look in his face.
"Jason, you know as well as I do that I'm not stupid, I know it's you, what is your game? This just got personal, you told me that we were fine, we settled our differences, Jason if you have the guts you say you have, if you're as tough as you say you are, next week on Meltdown I'm calling you out, and we'll see how tough you are then, but Jason, thanks, you just gave me the extra rage I needed to go into this match and win, good luck surviving when I get my hands on you. See you around, Jason."
Combe spits on the camera lens before walking away. The scene fades to commercial.
