( LESSON TO BE LEARNED )
Starring: Johnny Sykes Location: Pittsburgh, PA Date: September 1st, 2012
It was literally a week before Asylum was meant to take place in the world of APW. It is a pretty stacked card with a lot that is scheduled to take place. There is one person in particular that happened to be on the card that actually had something to say.
Cameras proceeded to open up. It didn’t take long to realize that the setting was taking place in downtown Pittsburgh. With all the sports flags and what not hanging around it was a dead giveaway. About that time though, Johnny Sykes appeared before us all.
Johnny Sykes: So I failed last Sunday at Shockwave. I can admit that is what happened. I’m not pleased with it. I’m not happy with it. I wish it could have gone a different way but truth is it can’t and it won’t. It’s right back at square one and it is right back at the start. I now need to climb the ranks again and put myself in a position where I get noticed.
It shouldn’t surprise many that Sykes was handling this loss better than most people would. After all he wasn’t one of those people that were consumed with winning. There was much more to this business than that and he realized that a long time ago.
Johnny Sykes: With that being said that leads to me to next weekend on Asylum. Word going around is I’ll be teaming up with Jar Hopkins to take on the European Invasion which consists of the team of Stefan Raab and Yarmouth. From what I’m being told this match has been billed as a Meltdown Alumni Match.
This was going to be a nice treat for those whom were big fans of the Meltdown brand. For one night and one night only they were going to get to see some of the former Meltdown top talents go at it, even if Sykes himself was never a member of said brand.
Johnny Sykes: Well not that it’s a huge deal or anything, but in order for me to be considered Meltdown Alumni. That would mean that I had to have competed on that brand at some point and eventually graduated to one of the other brands. That never happened and I wonder if there was a bit of a mistake or if just meant everyone else in the match. Regardless though I can say that I am looking forward to the match and I got a trick or two up my sleeve for this night.
Sykes gave the cameras a big grin. That grin right there was enough to support his logic on having something up his sleeve. He was quite the sneaky young man, but no matter what it was. He always made sure what he did was entertaining.
Johnny Sykes: Not very many people know this about me but when I started wrestling back when I was twenty. I started off as a member of a tag team. It was myself and my best friend David Xavier Christensen. We were known as the Forgotten and later we became known as the SIC when we added a dear friend of us to our little shindig. Either way though, that’s where I got my start and for the better part of my career I was a tag team wrestler.
Least it would be a good thing for Hopkins to know that Sykes had a background in being a tag team competitor. It was something that could help them out despite the two of them never having a chance to team up before this up and coming match.
Johnny Sykes: Everything that the European Invasion is trying to do I have done at one point or another. I know what it is like to be in a position where you want to make a name for yourself as a tag team. It took a while but eventually David and I were able to pull it off. I know what it is like to be in a position where you want to be the Tag Team Champions which in the end is eventually something David and I made a reality. I know what it is like to be in a position where you want to be one of the best tag teams to ever exist in this business. Again that is something that David and I eventually made happen.
He just nodded his head a little bit. Granted at this point what he was saying wasn’t much importance to anyone seeing as his past was simply just that his past. Though it did have some relevance when it came down to the tag team part of things.
Johnny Sykes: I know what it is like to be in that position, so I can relate to Raab and Yarmouth but at the end of the day there are too many differences between the two of us. For example when David and I formed a tag team we wanted to make sure that we were creative and original with our stuff. It started with our tag name – the forgotten. There was logic behind it and there was a reason for it. We were always the two people forgotten about in wrestling and wrote off as if we weren’t anything special. Now look at Yarmouth and Raab for a second. They are calling themselves the European Invasion. Do you know how unoriginal and how uncreative that is? We get it the two of you are from over the big pond, but that’s literally the only connection and it makes the two of you look pretty weak in my opinion.
Sykes had his own opinion and while people didn’t have to like it. It wasn’t going to stop him from expressing it, and when it came to this specific situation. There was a good chance that several others shared the same view and opinion as he did.
Johnny Sykes: It doesn’t end there though when David and I were a tag team. We knew when it was time to run our mouths, and we knew when it was time to shut up. That seems to be something that the European Invasion doesn’t know how to do. We get that the two of you won a big tag match at Shockwave. We get it the two of you are the number one contenders for the APW Tag Team Titles. Kudos, congrats, and all that good stuff, however just because you two managed to pull that off. It doesn’t give you a right to start walking around here like a couple of Grade A Douches. It doesn’t give you a right to start trash talking other big names like Stefan seems to do on twitter. Hate to break it to you brah, but no one even knows who the hell you are. All you’re doing is digging your own grave around here with everyone else in APW. Course it doesn’t help much that Yarmouth kind of just goes along with things. Setting yourselves up for failure in a big way.
One thing that Sykes hated doing was coming off as if he knew it all and coming off as if he was a douche. That’s not his style and that wasn’t his ammo. However it would appear that the European Invasion has rubbed his skin the wrong way to make him be that person.
Johnny Sykes: I hate to be this guy. I really do, but I am hoping that when the European Invasion actually gets in the ring with Noble-Hart for their tag title shot that Noble-Hart hands them their asses on a silver platter. It is one of those things where the two of them need to be taught a lesson. The two of them need to be taught some respect and the two of them need to be knocked off their pedestal. Both men need to be knocked down a little bit so they can see what they are doing and that way they can have their egos put in check. That is the only way that these guys are going to learn, and like I said I hate being that guy but one thing I don’t tolerate is disrespect and those people thinking they are better than what they are when they haven’t even paid their dues yet.
Of course the European Invasion would have something to say about that. that was something that Sykes expected ad something that pretty much everyone else expected but at the same time it was just words. Words didn’t matter and everyone knew that as well.
Johnny Sykes: But before the two of you even get the chance to face those two. You’ve got to climb into the ring with Jair-Jair and I – allow me to tell you right now. Contrary to what the two of you might think. We’re not some walk in the park and we’re not just a couple of people that you’re going to bulldoze right on through. In fact we’re the biggest threat the two of you have faced as a team yet. Sure we might not be an official team but we’re deadly inside the ring. Not only are we deadly but we’re hungry for success. Both of us had a chance to become the Pro-Life … well Suicidal Champion at Shockwave and the two of us failed. Now we’ve got something to prove and now we want to get ourselves back on a level of success. On Asylum, we’re going to look at this match as a way to get back on track and make the most of it.
No doubt about it this match was a match where Hopkins and Sykes had a chance to show the people what they were made of. It was their chance to get right back on track and their chance to get all eyes on them once again. Both men would take advantage of it and make the most of it for sure.
Johnny Sykes: Don’t get me wrong Raab and Yarmouth, the two of you are well on your way to becoming quite the names around here in APW. I’d never take that away from two people that deserve it, especially seeing as the two of you have been working extra hard to get in the position that you are in now. But the two of you truly do need attitude adjustments and the two of you need to be put in your places before you can ever have true success around here – after all your attitudes are the thing that are going to hold you back if someone doesn’t come along and check you. No worries though, Jair-Jair and I are going to be the two men to do that. Most importantly though, we’ll be picking up a win and proving to everyone o Asylum that we are the real deal and it is just a matter of time before we break through that imaginary glass ceiling. Rest assured when Asylum does roll around. Someone is getting… SYKED OUT!
At that moment Sykes looked at the cameras giving a grin and a thumbs up before turning and walking right on out of the cameras screen. This only led to the cameras fading on out to static. Sykes had done a good job with storytelling and had done a great job with putting how he felt out there. It was now just a matter of getting into the ring and seeing how it all ended. All four of them had something to prove and all four of them wanted something. It would just come down to which team could work together the best and who wanted it the most. None the less, Asylum was going to experience another great match!
