"To be a warrior is not a simple matter of wishing to be one. It is rather an endless struggle that will go on to the very last moment of our lives. Nobody is born a warrior, in exactly the same way that nobody is born an average man. We make ourselves into one or the other." – Carlos Castaneda
In the midst of his continually tumultuous world, Anthony has found himself in paradise. Feeling jet lagged after a long twelve hour flight from Jacksonville, Florida to Honolulu, he didn’t want fatigue to ruin the moment to indulge in his surroundings. Honolulu didn’t only signify a tour stop for the Asylum brand, it indicated a fresh start altogether. A fresh start to prove to his opponent Shane Borderland and the rest of the world that he truly was who he claimed to be. Through all the smiles and Bailey’s lighthearted demeanor, the past nine months have been tough for him.
Juggling his newfound success and fame along with the morals that had been instilled into him since his youth proved more difficult than he had anticipated. Fame was much more than being approached for autographs and pictures by die hard fans and it was more than declining apparent advances from groupies due to his monogamous relationship with Tasha, it meant that he dwelt under a microscope and that his every move was carefully watched. But while people were watching and concerned with the life and moments of Anthony Reese Bailey, he wanted to make their observations worthwhile.
{{The scene opens to the front of X-Treme Parasail in Honolulu, HI. The weather is in the mid seventies and the sky is partly cloudy. X-Treme Parasail is Oahu’s largest watersports company and a tourist attraction phenomenon. Anthony is spotted along with Tasha and the two are gearing up for their parasailing adventure along with a few other people. Bailey is wearing a white, black, and red T-shirt that says “Maoli Kekoa” across the chest, black swimming trunks, and black slippers while Tasha is wearing a pink and black two piece bathing suit. As Tasha is carrying on a conversation with one of the parasailing instructors, Anthony walks over to her from the opposite side of the room and stands right beside her.}}
Anthony Bailey: Hey babe, what’s going on? Are we about ready to hit the water or what?
Tasha: Soon. The instructor was just telling me a little bit about the history of the island and the company and how it all got started and what not.
Anthony Bailey: Oh really? That’s pretty cool.
{{Anthony turns towards the instructor.}}
We love it here man, it’s very beautiful! It’s our first time visiting and we don’t want to leave.
{{The instructor grins.}}
Parasailing Instructor: I know exactly what you mean. That’s a common remark that I tend to hear from most of the tourists.
Anthony Bailey: I can see why. This is kind of random, but how many tourists would you say visit the island each year?
Parasailing Instructor: Good question but I’m not sure. I do know that the island generates about ten million dollars in revenue each year from tourism though.
Tasha: Oh wow really? That’s incredible!
Anthony Bailey: Yeah, that’s insane. That’s never bad for the local economy.
Parasailing Instructor: Oh no, not at all. That’s how we stay afloat as a state.
Tasha: That’s awesome.
{{The instructor glances down at Anthony’s shirt.}}
Parasailing Instructor: Nice shirt, I like that. Where’d you get it?
Anthony Bailey: I had a friend back home make it for me. He was born and raised in Hawaii but currently lives in Florida.
Parasailing Instructor: Oh nice! What island is he from?
Anthony Bailey: He’s here from Oahu, but I’m not sure what city or town.
Parasailing Instructor: Oh okay…
{{Anthony ganders at a nearby clock on the wall and says, "I’ll be back" to Tasha as she nods and continues her conversation with the sailing instructor. Anthony walks off in the opposite direction and strolls over to the side of the building by himself. He leans comfortably against the wall, looks directly into the camera, flashes a smile, and begins to speak.}}
Anthony Bailey: Even though I think that instructor guy is trying to hit on my girlfriend, he seems pretty cool otherwise.
Anthony wasn’t the jealous type but he knew exactly when a guy was trying to flirt with Tasha. He didn’t mind because they had a strong relationship and because he was comfortable and secure within himself.
It’s unfortunate that I’m only going to be in a beautiful place like this for only a few days. You’d think by being born in and still residing in Florida that I would be used to tropical environments such as this, but this? This place is exquisite. Familiarity breeds contempt and I’m used to home so it’s nice to break the routine every now and then. APW really does make people’s dreams come true.
And speaking of people’s dreams, I must play the “bad” guy and crush the dreams of Shane Borderland tomorrow night on Asylum. You are absolutely right about me not being happy with your interference at Shockwave. Your behavior has only fueled the doubts of my adversaries. It pains them to already see me in the position that I am in, but when I have a man who possesses nothing but a dollar and a dream take out my opponent for me, it makes me look weak. It makes me look like I am incapable of getting the job done. And for those who know me and have followed my career so far, you know that The Promise is all about accomplishing a task. And not only do I accomplish tasks, I do so with finesse.
And you hide behind the claim of you not actually caring about winning the World Title at all but I’m seeing right through your deception Shane. You DO want to win the belt and you DO want to become the type of megastar that you haven’t had the chance to become quite yet. You’ve seen your former partner Jason Kash achieve the impossible and climb great heights while you faded into ambiguity. Your life story is nothing but a rebranded memoir of Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. They both helped the Chicago Bulls go to the playoffs and attain those numerous NBA Championships all those years, but why is poor ol’ Scottie rarely ever mentioned when it comes to Chicago’s formula of success?
Bailey sympathized at the end result of Scottie Pippen even though the facts were the facts. He hoped and prayed that things would turn around for him and turn around for the better. Bailey believes that hard workers should always be rewarded and aided even if they had been irresponsible with stewarding their finances well.
In the eyes of some, his role as assistant to Michael was simply that…assistance. Jordan will go down as one of the greatest basketball players of all time while Scottie is presently dealing with financial woes and allegedly on the brink of filing bankruptcy. The celebrity and fortune of Michael Jordan have eclipsed Scottie Pippen and if the point that I was trying to illustrate somehow got lost, guess who’s Michael and guess who’s Scottie? You cannot win Shane and I’m not simply referring to our match tomorrow night either, I mean in general. You cannot win because no matter what you do, you’ll always be known as the Scottie Pippen of professional wrestling. You’ll always be the bench warmer or the hors d’oeuvre that is served right before the main course. Since you now know this you should just stay in your lane. Don’t try to get on the toll road with us big boys, you might just hurt yourself.
And this will be your chance of a lifetime Shane because after your shoulders have been pinned onto the mat and once reality finally begins to set in, you can accept the fact that you cannot last in the ring against people like Sally Talfourd and myself. You cannot last and therefore you shouldn’t have gotten yourself entangled in our business in the first place. It’s a chance of a lifetime because you’ll get to realize this before it’s too late. I’m all for the new guy, so to speak, being given the opportunity to rise up the ranks and take the world by storm with his skills because I was that guy. I never needed the World Title, the Tap Out Title, or headlining Asylum to validate me. Those things just came naturally over time but not because I tried to manipulate the system in my favor or weasel my way into worthwhile occasions, I simply capitalized on whatever came my way. I allowed destiny to have its way in my life.
Sally and I did not come your way, you took it upon yourself to get “noticed.” I respect guys like J-Hop, TJ, and Johnny Sykes. Those are three individuals who are giving it their all week in and week out, working hard to make something of themselves, and paying their dues. But you’re not in that category Shane. What dues have you paid? What have you done to be my opponent for the World Title? Absolutely nothing and that’s why I cannot respect your actions or respect what you stand for either. It seems as if your whole agenda is out to prove that you’re better than Kash because I beat Kash and if you beat me then…bam, roll out the red carpet and stop the presses. I don’t care if you are better than me or aspire to be better than me because personally, I’m still not at a level where I want to be.
Though I’m content I’m not complacent and I am still refining myself daily, whether it be physically, spiritually, mentally, or emotionally. You’re so focused on the present state of things Shane that it’s sickening. You’re focused on the Anthony Bailey you see before your eyes and I’m already chiseling away at the Anthony Bailey ten years from now. That’s another reason why you’ll be defeated tomorrow night. I’m way too far ahead of you and even if you were advancing in my direction at the speed of light, you still would not be able to catch up.
A lot of the natives here have taken a liking to my T-shirt. I had a friend in St. Augustine make it for me this past week specifically for this trip. The words “Maoli Kekoa” means true warrior in Hawaiian. Shane Borderland attempted to give us a convincing articulation of his “warrior” within but his definition of warrior is skewed. A warrior is a soldier and a person who shows great courage…now remind me, what was courageous about trying to steal the spotlight and attacking Sally? What’s courageous about thinking that you actually have a chance against The Promise on Asylum? I have aimed to be a true warrior in word and deed. It’s pointless to sound persuasive in my promos but come up short inside the ring. That’s your validity Shane, this is your reality…
Had you been humble upon joining the Asylum brand and earned a few stripes first, this entire scenario would’ve played out differently. I would have actually respected you and could have saved my gag reflexes the trouble of being activated at the mere thought of you. The whole learning the hard way is a bit too cliché for me but in conclusion, that’s what you will have to do. And if you think that I’m bad, just wait until Sally gets her chance to seek vengeance on you. That won’t be a pretty sight and you have been warned far in advance. Borderland, if you don’t know by now I am Anthony Bailey…APW’s only Promise…the only Promise that can't be broken. I’ll be seeing you in that ring tomorrow one on one…
