Well it wasn't always. Just sometimes.
And yeah we haven't won anything in ages but I'm not going to celebrate winning the Championship. Yeah it was an immensely fun season, beating all those little teams. Only lost four games and took over 100 points, taking 8000 fans to Barnsley and generally being a Barcelona was great fun.
But seeing us reach FA Cup finals and consistently in Europe the Championship was never going to whet the trophy appetite. I literally did not celebrate the trophy win cos I'd lost a bet that day.
And we've won the UEFA Cup. Big club.

You won it, when, in the 60s? Newcastle are a club with a big fan base, but they are not a big club in terms of success.
Even Sunderland and Middlesbrough have managed to win something more recently, ha!

They have, but have they ever played in the Champions League? Ever taken 12,000 fans to Inter Milan?
Nope.

Oh yeah, that fictional trophy - champions league qualification. Not like you ever got close to winning it, ha!
Anyway, have you ever taken 3,000 to Mansfield in the old Third Division?
Nope. Nevermind. ANYONE can take 12,000 glory fans for a Hollywood game in Milan.
But I'm just trying to yank your chain. I'll give Newcastle fans their due, they're loyal and there is a lot of them, they're just not a big (successful) club, no matter how much they like to think they are.

We've never been in the third tier of football so why should we! Haha.
For what it's worth I'm from Cardiff and I have a massive soft spot for the club. They're my fourth team after Newcastle, Carlisle and Gateshead.

We've never been in the third tier of football so why should we! Haha. You'll never know what you missed out on then. And actually it was the fourth tier (what is now league 2). For what it's worth I'm from Cardiff and I have a massive soft spot for the club. They're my fourth team after Newcastle, Carlisle and Gateshead. For shame.

Ehh, I did the Conference run with Carlisle and went to a few games so I've done the lower league thing a fair bit. A whole lot of fun, that season. Carlisle on the Tuesday and Saturday, and Newcastle on the Thursday and Sunday cos of the UEFA Cup. Must have clocked up close to 100 games that season.

Most shameful thing ever, but making my first match tomorrow, home to Fulham.
Least I'm going to Benfica as well where we'll see the greatest recovery OF ALL TIME

It's Chelsea's to lose now. There are some decent sides, but they are all really second tier European teams. Not saying it'll be a walkover, but Chelsea should be favourites.

Yeah. An amazing thing happened tonight. Benfica score in the 90th minute, and the whole stadium got off their arses and cheered. Partly for Benfica's effort cos they're a much better side than us, but mostly because of the way we managed to reach the last eight in a tournament with a ridiculous schedule. Fourteen games we played. We gave it our all and the players looked more gutted than us. I'm so proud to be a Newcastle fan tonight. It's not always about winning trophies, but about the moments and being there. Deffo saving up for a seaso next season

After today's win and Watford's loss, we're almost there. 1 point from the last 4 games. I can't wait for a Premier League South Wales derby - it'll put everyone to shame!

We punched a horse.
I hope he goes down for a long time. We've had it so well, when we finally lose this derby the least we can do is lose in a dignified manner.
