I don’t always enjoy a show off, but when I do, it’s because I get to heal my ankle. One last warm up before One Night In Hell, but by no means is it an easy match. Kash is crazy, psychotic, and suicidal. Fitting since he’s the Suicidal Champion, and just because there’s three of us, me, Jair, and Yarmouth, doesn’t mean we’re going to wipe the floor. We’re all three talented guys, but we’re not all facing him at once, one on one. The best part? We’re in Bejing on short work, so no trip home. Good thing I brought my credit card.
We open the scene inside of The Gate City Mall in Beijing. We see a crowd of people surrounding “The Soul of Philly” TJ as he makes his way store to store, buying some clothes for the week in Beijng. He is surrounding by some camera crews as well, for some sort of promotion stuff for the upcoming Asylum show on local news stations. TJ, accompanied by a translator, has a red Phillies cap on, a black v-neck shirt and jeans on as he makes his way through the crowd of mall goers. A light comes on from one of the camera. The reporters ask questions as the translator does his job.
Translator Ah, you are wrestling this coming Sunday for the Action Packed Wrestling Television show, Sunday Night Asylum.
The.Soul.of.Philly TJ Yes I am.
Translator And you opponent?
The.Soul.of.Philly TJ Well, I’m not in your average one-on-one match this Sunday, I am a part of a three man team compiled of “The Bad Ass Boom” Yarmouth and Jair Hopkins, the #1 contender to the APW Suicidal championship.
Translator You trust these men?
TJ stops and looks towards the reporter who asked the question.
The.Soul.of.Philly TJ Do I trust the men I’m teaming with this Sunday? No, but it’s of not fault but my own. You see my last match on Asylum, I beat Yarmouth. There was no question about the outcome, it was clear as day that I beat him, and that I hold the title as the biggest, baddest man in APW. And to be honest, I don’t get this whole attitude change of his. I don’t trust him because of this flip flopping attitude thing he’s got going. One minute he is Mr. Meltdown, the gatekeeper if you will of APW, and then, the minute he’s drafted, he trashing America at every chance he can. No I don’t expect everyone in this wonderful country to understand to sympathize with this idea, but when you disrespect America, you disrespect Philly, the birthplace of America, and when you disrespect Philly, you disrespect its soul: me. So I don’t trust Yarmouth because I don’t know which Yarmouth I’m getting. I mean hell, not too long ago, as in just this week, he was buddy-buddy with Kash, so why am I to trust him?
He pauses to allow the translator to finish that translation.
The.Soul.of.Philly TJ And Jair, now he’s a different story. We got this mutual respect thing because we both came from the same life, city kids told we weren’t going to amount to much and we’re proving everyone wrong. I mean we both have title challenges at One Night in Hell, both looking to knock out the incumbent champs, and both, hopefully, going to pull it off. But the same token, one man’s set back is another man’s opportunity. I mean, take for instance what happened to Shane Borderland this week, he’s out of the title match, which sucks for him, although, I’ve never seen eye to eye with the Wide Fuckin’ Open himself, but that’s an opportunity for someone on the Asylum roster to step in and take everyone by surprise, and if that happens to be me, that’d be great, but my focus is on Julius Farquhar.
Another reporter’s arm shoots up and TJ points, she asks and the translator does his job.
Translator Julius Farquhar is the man you face at One Night In Hell and he attacked you with hired men yes? Thoughts?
The.Soul.of.Philly TJ Look, I want to focus on this week, in Beijing. Take it week by week, show by show, but back to my point about Jair and trust, if I were to fall injured between now and One Night In Hell, he’d be a great fit. Do I think Jair would screw me over? No, but it’s a business at the end of the day, whether I like it or not, so if I were to get hurt, would Jair save me? Maybe, but in the back of my head, I’m thinking he’s not, and I don’t blame him.
Following the translation, another question, translated.
Translator TJ, who is your opponent this week and what do you think of him?
The.Soul.of.Philly TJ Ah, that’d be none other than the Suicidal Champion himself, Jason Kash. You know, one helluva wrestler, he’s a Grand Slam champion for Pete’s sake, but he’s never faced me for those titles, he’s been around for awhile, and he’s been, for so long, the measuring stick of Asylum, and he has my respect for that, takes a deal of talent and the right mindset to be able to do that, but that’s not the Kash I’m facing with Yarmouth and Jair.
He takes a turn into a shoe store, looking around the store as he conducts the interviews.
The.Soul.of.Philly TJ No, the Kash I’m facing isn’t the measuring stick for Asylum anymore, no, no he’s fallen from that, into this new, violent, apathetic man. He turned his back on the fans when the going got tough, turned on them when he got down, and when he started to turn it around, ending the longest title reign in Asylum history when he beat Callahan, Sykes, and Jair for the Suicidal Championship, he didn’t credit them. Maybe its because he’s not high, he’s tense, he’s stressed out and this is the only way he knows how to handle it, but beating people senselessly, turning on his partner, attacking people in the bar and taking away their chance at glory, then that’s his choice, but its also his punishment, his consequence that he has to take.
He leaves the store without buying shoes.
The.Soul.of.Philly TJ If Kash wants to be this way, then let him, but I’m not Mr. Dangerous or Johnny Sykes, I’m not a goofball, I’m a beast, a monster, the thing that goes bump in the night and his cousin. So when we are face to face in the ring, Kash, I know you won’t back down, but I want to consider if you’re ready for what you’re getting this Sunday.
He turns to the camera as he reaches the exit of the mall.
The.Soul.of.Philly TJ Because you’re not just getting “The Bad Ass Boom”, you’re not just getting your One Night In Hell opponent, you’re getting greatness in its truest form, you’re getting your nightmares in their physical forms. You’re getting “THE SOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUULLLLLLLLLLLLL OF PHILLY”. And come Sunday, the check that you’re bar night actions wrote, you’re ass is going to fail to Kash it.
He shakes his head as he smiles on his way out of the mall.
