The following is a post on the official blog of Roy Speede.
One down, and a nice long career’s worth to go, and this past week has left me rather surprised and at the same time rather satisfied with not only myself but with the atmosphere of the APW as a whole. For one, I’m actually getting to be a part of the big league circuit and compete in front of fans all over, just like I’ve dreamed of doing for so very long, and two, the atmosphere not only in the ring but in the arena as a whole is nothing like I’ve ever experience before, and that in itself is something spectacular that I can’t say I’d truly imagined in the past. I’d dreamed of it, but I never made it here in the past, and now that I’m here, I can’t say anything negative about this experience. It’s absolutely spectacular.
Now, before I get to the serious part of this conversation, I’ve got a nice little story for you all about my first week in the APW locker room, and it rather wound up leading up to this match. It’s no secret that I’ve had a history with some of the members of the APW roster in the Indy circuit, and it all came to a halt this week because it turns out that I passed the newest member of the roster in the hall on my way to the weight room for a workout. It turns out that I’m teaming with a man from my past this week, and it turns out that it’s a very good thing, because this guy and I have worked together in the past, and we’re a formidable team together. Rather than go into greater detail, I’ll just refer to this man as who he is. This man, of course, is D-Day.
Now, I’m not going to spend hour after hour going into detail about my history with D-Day, but he and I used to be a part of a smaller company, and while we’ve had our fair share of run-ins in the past, he and I have shared glory in the past as well, and that’s what is going to wind up happening again. He has held the big gold in promotions before, and he’s been on the bottom having to work his way up before, and without a doubt that’s a sign to me, if nobody else, that he’s someone who knows what he’s doing, and in the situation the two of us are in this week, he’s someone who is going to come out firing and work his way up in an attempt to be the best in the field on the biggest stage in professional wrestling, just like he was when he won the highest ranked championship belt in the company we fought in together a while back. Hell, I think each and every one of us is here to try to do exactly that, but the mere fact that this is D-Day I’m talking about makes this a more interesting tournament to take part in than that time the guys in the company I first started with did a fantasy football game with the stipulation that the first round had to be all kickers.
But no, in all seriousness, that makes me think quite a bit, because while I’m teaming with someone who I’ve long considered a friend in D-Day, I’m also teaming with one of the only men whom I can say I’ve always wanted to defeat, and with him on my team, I don’t really think I will get that chance this time either; that being said, I don’t want it. Teaming with D-Day again is going to be reliving the start of my wrestling career, and that being said, the start of my wrestling career was when wrestling was the most fun, before it got to be about wins and losses, and back before all the drama of being a big star got to my head. It was back before I got to be The Silver Lining in the darkness that everyone looks to as a hero, and being back at the bottom of the totem pole, finding myself working with D-Day is all a great big flashback to me. Thank you to the guys booking these matches for setting this up; it’s a great feeling no doubt, and I’m going to love being able to set foot in that ring and be the Roy Speede I was when I started my career on a larger scale, and that means winning in front of each and every wrestling fan in the world watching me and seeing my hand raised in victory.
Or at least, that’s what my intentions are. I’ve got to deal with a pair of competitors who’re going to try to keep that from me this week though in Nick Watson and Amy Zing, a rather impromptu team if appearance means anything to me. Granted, maybe they have more of a history than first glance implies, but the two of them aren’t going to get very far in the APW as a team because their first tag team match is against none other than the team of D-Day and The Silver Lining. Call it what you will, bad luck, unfortunate circumstance, or even just refer to it as an interesting matchup if it floats your boat, but what results in this match is going to be something that not even the company president sitting behind his desk with his feet propped up on the corner, a cigar hanging out of his mouth and a glass of cheap wine in his hand like a wanna-be mafia boss, could see coming. It is going to be the start of none other than greatness, and believe me when I say that everyone will be amazed when they see D-Day and myself holding those tag team belts and bringing back honor and glory to this worn out division of wrestlers.
Or rather, I say it looks pretty worn out; I can’t be certain, but right now I’m questioning whether or not there’s a team out there formidable enough to pose a challenge to us already, and this is but the first round of an impromptu tag team tournament. One way or another, somebody will be wrong; is it going to be the critics, is it going to be the haters, or is it going to be none other than The Silver Lining, Roy Speede? The answer to that question is simply a matter of fact whether or not people believe in Roy Speede and D-Day as a tag team, because we’ll walk out of this match the winners, and anyone who doubts me is misleading himself or herself into the belief that the duo in question isn’t capable of doing exactly what I’ve all but proven we can last week. Sure, none of you have seen D-Day compete yet, but he has twice the talent of my partner last week, and with me as a part of this alliance, we could win if he had only half the talent of my ex-partner, William D. Williams Jr.
Getting back to the topic of our opponents, first, there’s Amy Zing, a chick who looks more like she should be modeling plus sized bras than fighting a wrestling match, much less when she’s competing against two quite capable wrestlers like D-Day and myself. The only advantage she has coming into this match is her tits, because quite honestly, I can say that I’m a straight male, and tits are on occasion a distraction. Other than that, she’d best hope she has the ability to hide or the quickness to run away from a pair of wrestlers who won’t hesitate to attack her if it means winning a match. That’s exactly what D-Day and I are willing to do if it means winning, and no offense to Amy Zing, but if she thinks we’re going to show mercy because she’s a female, she’s one seriously dumb woman, that’s for sure.
Our other opponent this week is someone who apparently has recently come into luck as the Xtreme Champion on the Overdrive brand, Nick Watson. Now, I’m not sure what this means for the rest of this match and its participants other than Amy Zing, because one thing that it points out to me as clear as day is that, when it comes down to retaining his tag belt or his Xtreme title belt, he’s going to throw you to the dogs, and you’re going to be stuck dealing with loss and anguish, and that’s why you shouldn’t even hope to win these title belts, Amy. I’m sorry to break it to you like this, but it’s the truth, and if you actually do make it past D-Day and I, you’ll have it proven to you when that match comes around.
But, focusing on Nick Watson, I must say that I’m utterly unimpressed with the career this man has had so far, from what I’ve seen, and the fact that I’m facing him as my first ‘veteran’ battle within this company is just as depressing as ever for me because I was truly hoping that I’d get to go up against someone in this company with a real history and some actual talent to his name other than a fluke win of the Xtreme Championship, and every rookie looking to make an impact knows exactly what I’m saying when I say that Nick Watson is a disappointment to this company and that I should be hoping for better when I go down to that ring expecting to face someone who’s been around this company for a while and is being sent back down from one of the main brands to help give a rookie or two something better to hope for as far as competition.
That’s right, Nick, you’re nothing to me, and you’ll never be anything to me unless you can prove to me that this match is actually worth my time, because as far as I’m aware, teaming with D-Day is the most significant part of this match because it makes me more confident than ever that the two of us will go on to win the Tag Titles tournament, and if that’s the case that means that you’re going to be very upset with your performance, and everyone else on the roster and in the back, and even those members of your family watching from home will be incredibly upset with your performance too. So the question remains, Nick, are you going to live up to the hype in the first round of the tag tournament, or are you going to choke and bow out like the waste of time we all secretly know you are?
He’s going to choke. That’s all there is to it; there’s no doubt in my mind that D-Day and I are going to walk out of this match the victors, and as much as I don’t want to spoil everyone else’s day, I don’t think there’s a team on the roster that can defeat the two of us when we’re at our best. D-Day and I have experience working together, and we have the experience needed in the tag division to become champions, and when it all becomes noticeable in the end, it’ll be too late to stop the two of us, just like it was too late to stop my partner at the time and I in my debut. We’re the best new wrestlers this roster can offer, and pairing us together is only an acceleration of the careers of two of the best that will ever start out on Meltdown instead of going straight to one of the ‘main’ shows. Just wait and you’ll see. We’ll do it; we’ll go farther than anyone expects us to in this tournament, and I have to ask... CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW!?!
