“Show me”
{Post –Meltdown – Harrisburg P.A.}
The Covelli Center has long gone silent as the show has been over now for a couple of hours. Now only the emergency lights are lit giving the tile floor a dull sheen. Earlier in the night Mac and Buck had taken the time to sign autographs for fans before returning to the locker room to shower and change to get ready for their flight back to Little Rock. One of the things that is now becoming a post-match ritual for The Sons of the South is watching tape of their matches. Since it was readily available they sat and watched the match repeatedly spotting flaws in their own game plan. A polite knock echoes throughout the room as Hanna Storm walks in.
Hanna Storm – That was quite a statement win tonight.
Bane waves her off as Buck snorts in derision shaking his head in disagreement.
Buck – It might be had the team of Knuckles and Famouri been together for more than a couple of hours. It was a obvious as neon that they had not spent any time training together.
Hanna Storm – What about you Mac, you have anything you want to say?
Mac – I do have a few things I would like to touch on…Perhaps I have been too kind to people since my arrival in APW. Too politically correct maybe. When an announcer for this company says, “He likes to call himself The One-Man Wrecking Crew…”, no sir I don’t like to call myself that. I earned it. You don’t have to believe me I have references or should I say a list of victims. I didn’t just sit naked in my living room in a beanbag chair eating Cheetos one day and think you know that would make a great moniker for you Mac. It comes from brutal, bloody extreme matches when the odds were 3 and 4 to 1. It comes from defeating 8 other men for a world title. It comes from putting tag teams through barbed wire wrapped tables that had been set on fire. Do your research before you run your mouth son, I can go from educated gentlemen to redneck in about the beat of your heart. Unlike some people in this company I don’t have to rely on a profanity laced tirade to get my point across! I don’t know if it’s an indictment of our education system in this country or if you’re just that damn stupid!
Now then with that out of the way….The tourney match ended exactly the way we expected it to, The Sons of the South move on to the next round while our opponents are on the outside looking in. Not that anyone should have expected anything less, while Buck and I are not exactly a polished team, we do have that connection that other teams only dream of. When I say we are like brothers with different mothers its not meant to be an amusing country one-liner, its more of a warning shot across the bow of our opponents. We don’t require a lot of communication in the ring because we know what the other is thinking. We have a strategy for every match, we don’t just go out there and stand in the corner waiting for the other guy to tag out so we can further our individual glory. We have the ability to spot the weaknesses and strengths of another team without much difficulty and as you saw in our last match we waste no time exploiting it. It wasn’t a lack of ability by Knuckles or Famouri that cost them their match against us. It was a combination of things; their unfamiliarity with each other was truly the weak link. You have to work with someone in order to excel in this division, and that boys and girls is the reason that Buck and I will be successful. We work very hard helping each other get better whether it’s by watching tape or our little training exercises that we come up with on the fly depending on situation and strategy needed.
Hanna Storm – that being said, you are probably not aware of the card that was just announced, where The Sons of the South will team with Chris Gunn and Scrap against the team of Storm Front, Mascara, and Donald Deruty. Whoever gets the pin is the number 1 contender for the North American Title.
Bane starts ticking off items on his fingers –
“We have already faced Donald “D-Day” Deruty; we know perfectly well what he is capable of. A very solid competitor, how he will do without his friend as his team mate? We shall see, but his unfamiliarity with his team mates may ultimately lead to him getting pinned.”
“Storm Front – An established team from what I understand, small and quick, they maximize the damage they can do with quick tags and high risk/high impact moves. One mistake is all it takes ladies, we don’t use high risk moves, just high impact.”
“Mascara – A luchadore with a high upside, looked impressive in his debut, he’ll look even more impressive flat on his back!”
“Chris Gunn and Scrap our partners in this little endeavor – Both appear to be intelligent and tough as Hell, we will see. Or maybe one of them will prove once again that the speed of light is definitely faster than the speed of sound.”
Hanna Storm arches an eyebrow at Bane’s last statement.
Hanna Storm – The speed of light is faster than the speed of sound.
Bane slaps Buck on the shoulder and jerks his thumb toward the door. Buck smiles and nods his head as he follows his tag team partner toward the exit. As the scene fades we can here Buck ask Mac…
Buck – you think she understood your joke? Some people appear to be intelligent until they open their mouth….

{Little Rock, Arkansas}
The cold north wind moves the clouds at a speed that might be confused for fast forward on a DVD player causing Bane and Gooch to pull their collars a little tighter for protection against it.
Buck – staying in Arkansas tonight Mac?
Bane shakes his head indicating that he will not be staying.
Mac – No sir, I need to head home to take care of a few things. Keep studying the video of our opponents for this match…eyes on the prize big man…and now there are two prizes. Think about the possibilities my friend….
Bane hands Gooch an additional DVD and smiles at his friend.
Buck – What’s this? Porn?
Bane laughs out loud but shakes his head indicating no.
Mac – Close, Aubrey J. Parker matches….you should study that film as well. You could easily be the one that makes the pin in this match and what kind of friend would I be if I didn’t try and do everything I could to make sure you’re ready?
Gooch grins and stuffs the DVD into his bag, the two men shake hands and part company.

{Port Arthur, Texas - Thursday morning}
It’s November in Texas which means crisp mornings and deer hunting. Bane has never gotten any joy out of hunting, it makes no sense….getting up at 3 a.m. to go sit in a deer stand in the freezing cold in the hopes of a deer walking out in front of you so you can use a high caliber rifle to kill something without adequate defenses to even make it a fight. This morning is no different for the Bane family, everyone is up early to head out to the deer stands. Mac has breakfast with the family and bids them good luck as they head out. Well all but one, his little 13 year old cousin Hanna sits at the table studying her eggs and hot chocolate.
Mac – What’s wrong Hanna?
She looks up with kind of a half grin on her face.
Hanna – Daddy said I couldn’t go.
Bane studies his young cousin for a moment, seemingly looking for the right words for the skinny little teenage girl.
Mac – Oh, and why is that?
She frowns slightly.
Hanna – He said it was just for the boys this time.
Bane nodding his head sagely, trying to maintain a serious expression but fails completely as he breaks out into laughter. Once he recovers he smiles at the little girl who is now just about in tears.
Mac – its okay Hanna, do you know why they are really not letting you go?
She stares down into her lap and sniffles quietly.
Hanna – No sir….
Bane cannot help himself as he continues to laugh. After several long moments he is able to gain control of his laughter and takes a chair next to Hana and wraps an arm across her shoulder.
Mac – Let you cousin explain a few things to ya little one. Clue number one, the last time you guys all went hunting who was the only one to kill a deer?
She stops sniffling and looks up at Bane.
Hanna – me…
Bane nods his head and smiles.
Mac – And who had an 8 point buck with a thirteen and a half inch spread?
Hanna is now smiling in earnest with barely contained glee.
Hanna – Me!
Mac – so now do you know why you didn’t get to go?
Hanna now glares, not at her cousin but in the general direction that the rest of the men went.
Hanna – those jerks! Just because I am the only one with a kill this year, I’m not supposed to go?
Mac smiles at his young cousin and then proposes a solution.
Mac – Of course you know what this means right?
Hanna Bane slams her hands on the table and jumps to her feet.
Hanna – WAR!
Mac smiles at his young cousin and points toward the back of the house.
Mac – go get your rifle and your jacket kiddo, I’ll take you to the deer stand.
Like a shot she is gone to her bedroom and grabs everything she needs.

{6 hours later}
The mid-morning sun has warmed South East Texas to a moderate sixty degrees as Mac Bane and his young Cousin Hanna roll into the yard. The rest of the family has been back for hours and come out to greet the pair with huge grins on their faces due to the activities of the morning hunt. It’s kind of a right of passage for young men in Texas, to kill your first deer can be an amazing feeling. And as he and Hanna exit the truck that’s what all the buzz is about, teenage boys who have finally got a deer. All four of Michael Bane’s teenage boys have gotten their first deer this season. Michael Jr. the oldest at 17 had gotten a ten point buck that morning, Jeremy a four point buck, George a five point buck and the youngest of the boys Glenn had gotten a twelve point buck. Glenn just barely a year older than Hanna stood there sticking out his tongue at Hanna as if to rub it in but she only stood there with an amused smirk on her face. Michael and the four boys caught on that something was just not right.
Michael Bane – So what have you guys been doing this morning?
Glenn – I bet they been playing barbies…
The boys all get a good laugh at their sisters expense until they look at Mac who is anything but amused and they all get quiet rather quickly. Mac motions them around to the end of the truck and pops the tailgate.
Mac – You should all be ashamed of yourselves! Because she kills the first deer of the season she’s not allowed to go?! Especially you Michael Bane. Hanna climb up there and show these amateurs what a real kill looks like.
As she was instructed Hanna gets up in the bed of the truck and removes the tarp which had been covering the body of a freshly killed deer. There is nothing but shocked silence as she reveals the body of a 15 point buck with a twenty inch spread.
Mac – now then, you little boys help your sister get this deer out of my damn truck.
Scene fades…

{The next morning}
The morning sun has creeped into the bedroom of Mac Bane, he is seated there soaking up the morning glow as it begins to fill the room. Fully dressed except for his boots he reaches down to retrieve it and stamps his left foot into it. He reaches for the other one as a light tap at the door echoes through the room.
Mac – Come in….
He finishes putting on his boots as Hanna comes around the side of the bed and gives him a hug.
Hanna – thanks for taking me hunting yesterday Mac.
He winks at his cousin and responds.
Mac – no problem kiddo, every now and again you have to educate people on whats right and wrong.
Hanna – You’re going to have to fight girls this time aren’t you?
Mac – Yes ma’am.
Hanna – I can tell by the look on your face cousin…..you don’t like that.
Mac – Hanna there are a lot of things I don’t like, but I do them anyway. I don’t have a problem with fighting girls. When they sign a contract with a company, they place themselves knowingly and willingly in harms way. Its as simple as that little one.
Hanna wrinkles her nose at Mac.
Hanna – Nothing is ever that simple with you Mac.
And with that Hana exits the room without another word leaving Mac to his own thoughts and the sunshine that has now reached chest high as the morning has progressed.
Mac - Indeed little one, nothing is ever that simple with me…
Bane looks over at the bedside table where a picture sets, a picture of Bane and a beautiful blonde headed woman. He looks for only a moment and shakes his head as he stands, he walks to the closet and grabs a camo jacket from the hanger not bothering to take it off the hanger just pulling until it gives and you hear the hanger hit the wall and then fall to the floor. He puts the jacket on and looks back to the corner where his camera on its tripod sets. He takes the jacket back off and lays in on the bed and grabs the remote from the camera, as he presses the record button on the remote the red light on the camera begins to glow.
Mac – Over the years I have heard this business that we are all in referred to as many things. But the grim reality is that it’s a heartless bitch and a warm safe place at the same time. When things are rolling along, she is the kindest lover you have ever known and you would not give her up for anything in this world. And of course at other times she takes on the other personae, the woman you cannot wait to get away from. Many over the years retire after only a few years in the business because they cannot put up with the grind that the road puts on them or the time away from their family becomes too much. It’s one of the reasons I don’t have one, I cannot and will not be distracted. Everyone has a journey in life or in wrestling if you choose to make it your life like I have. My path on this journey has been steady, there have been speed bumps along the way, make no mistake about it, but I have always corrected my path and gotten back on track. One of my partners this week must do the same; he has experienced a small set back in his life. He is afraid…..afraid of disappointing his family, his friends, himself. We all have moments of self-doubt Scrap, don’t let it beat you down and don’t ever give up!
Now is our other partner in this match Chris Gunn doesn’t lack for confidence from what I have seen so far, actually quite the opposite. Doesn’t bother me as long as he pulls his weight. Oh and Chris just so you know and I don’t want anyone to misunderstand, you only get once to cross me little man. You won’t ever get another chance so if you decide to cross The Sons of the South, do it right the first time. That leaves only my tag team partner, the big guy Buck Gooch, a man I have known since high school. A man I trust more than members of my own family….Hell he is family….got nothing for ya big man, just stay focused and stay true to who you are.
Scene fades…
