"You say, 'If I had a little more, I should be very satisfied.' You make a mistake. If you are not content with what you have, you would not be satisfied if it were doubled." – Charles H. Spurgeon
Today is the day that Anthony is able to put some legs to his verbal affirmations as he is provided the chance to give back to the people who dwell in his community. St. Augustine was simply where he lived, but Tampa? Tampa was home and it was relief for Anthony to be off the road and home with his family and friends for the holidays.
Thanksgiving had become more than a time to indulge in gluttony with your loved ones and when the evening rolled around debate whether or not you wanted to catch a movie or take on the long lines for the Black Friday sales instead. Thanksgiving was a time to display if you were truly content with all you had in life or if you would waste even more instances to try and attain all that you were able. To Bailey, life was about being content and not trying to gain more.
{{The scene opens to the inside of the Tampa Bay Times Forum, the 19,500 person capacity arena located in Tampa, FL that is the host of Anthony Bailey’s First Annual Unity In The Community Thanksgiving Feast. Over five thousand less fortunate men, women, and children have poured into the venue this Thanksgiving to have their stomachs filled with piping hot food that is free of charge. A few players from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, some members of The Hillsborough Youth Collaborative, which is a program that seeks to empower young people and a program that Bailey himself was apart of during his high school years, and even a few local media outlets are also in attendance. Bailey, clad in a gray and black hoodie, black jeans, and a pair of black, white, and gray Nike sneakers, can be seen off in the distance seated at a table eating and talking to a few people. The camera moves closer to listen in on his conversation.}}
Anthony Bailey: Does everything taste okay? Is anything too spicy, too salty, or too bland?
{{A man at the table begins to talk with his mouth half full.}}
Man #1: Oh no Mr. Bailey, everything is delicious!! What a remarkable meal you have provided for us.
Anthony Bailey: That’s good to hear but think nothing of it. I’m just a regular guy trying to do my part with a simple gesture and serve my community.
Man #1: Feeding five thousand people isn’t just some mild gesture; it’s quite superb if you ask me.
{{Bailey grins.}}
Anthony Bailey: Why thank you, the pleasure is all mine.
{{A woman sitting beside the man decides to speak up.}}
Woman: I honestly cannot remember the last time that I had a Thanksgiving meal like this. You truly have made this day memorable for all of us.
Anthony Bailey: Well…if things go according to plan, these kinds of events will become a regular thing and we can do them on other days besides Thanksgiving. I’m meeting with some local government officials after I come back from Louisville on Sunday to discuss the future possibilities.
{{The people’s eyes at the table light up.}}
Woman: Really? I pray for that to go well. We could really use something like that again.
Crackdowns with serving food to the homeless on public property without a permit in the city of Tampa have been widespread for the past few years. Local churches and other organizations were never required to have a permit to do this in the past so homeless feedings have declined throughout the city over the years because of the loopholes the local government puts you through to obtain a permit.
Anthony Bailey: Oh trust me, I am well aware of what’s going on and as long as I am living, that type of stuff will not happen. I promise.
{{Bailey’s genuineness penetrates the hearts of all those around him.}}
Man #2: Keep that same heart kid, don’t ever change.
Anthony Bailey: I’m just a man, but those women over there…they keep me grounded and remind me that I’m not one to be impressed with whenever I start to “feel” myself…
{{Anthony laughs as he points to his mother Tracy and his girlfriend Tasha who are wearing aprons and helping to serve food to the crowd in attendance. Tracy and Tasha happen to make eye contact with Anthony and they both smile and wave at him.}}
Those are some great women right there, I’d be lost without them.
Man #2: We all need people like that in our lives.
{{Bailey takes a bite of his food, chews it up, and swallows it before he continues to speak.}}
Anthony Bailey: Especially in my line of work, it’s vital. You can get so focused on trying to be better than the next man that you forget the true reasons of why you pursued the career path that you did in the first place.
Man #1: I think it’s safe to take up an offering after that Pastor Bailey.
{{Everyone at the table bursts into laughter as Anthony finishes his last few bites of food.}}
Anthony Bailey: You guys are something else. It was good talking to you all, but I have to roam the premises a bit to make sure nobody’s attempting to start a riot over a turkey shortage or something like that.
{{Bailey’s humor is well received and is a great point to leave on as he rises to his feet and picks up his trash. Smiling at everyone in his presence one last time, he walks away from the table. Throwing his trash away, he walks over to a slight nook on the floor of the arena as the camera follows him. Escaping a bulk of the noise, Anthony turns around to face the camera and starts to speak once again.}}
Seeing everyone out there being able to eat and share some laughs on this Thanksgiving Day makes me so grateful that I was able to do this. Every episode of Asylum, I am afforded the opportunity to be applauded and cheered on by thousands of people and that’s awesome because I wouldn’t want to change that for anything. But if I am unable to receive applause from the people in my own hometown apart from performing captivating moves inside the squared circle, then I have personally failed. This platform that I have via APW cannot and will not go to waste. It’s moments like this that make me feel replenished because it serves me as a reminder that what I am doing is not in vain.
As you witnessed this past Monday night on Meltdown, this is a new season for The Promise. A season of growth, a season of expansion, and a season to roam a new territory of countless possibilities. Getting teamed up with the individual who left Tokyo with my World Heavyweight Title and being scheduled to fight against a man who is going into Christmas Chaos the number one contender for that same title and his partner…oh, please do not get me started on his partner. This is a man whose tactics that I am conscious of and a man who many are dying to see me finally go toe on toe with at Christmas Chaos. My mind is constantly sprinting at thousands of miles per minute, but with the circumstances surrounding me this coming Sunday night, one has to wonder about what is taking place in these thoughts of mine.
Phil Atken, as I stated going into One Night In Hell in my critically acclaimed “Bailey’s Inferno” promo, your lustful cravings are uncontrollable and they must be quenched. I would normally applaud the man who is relentlessly working his way up the ranks, logging in extra hours at the gym, and committed to being intentional about his external expressions for growth within this company and this brand. I applaud the man doing that because I am that man Atken and so are the people I surround myself with. But seeing as how you manipulated your way to becoming the number one contender, I can’t reverence the fact that you are in the position that you are in. Shoot, you manifested as an authentic illusionist in that Elimination Chamber at One Night In Hell too because I don’t care what entry number you had, it is mind boggling that you, of all megastars, were the runner up.
As much as I have communicated over and over again the fact that I loathe Johnny Rebel, you even outlasted him in the Chamber and he’s a phenomenal wrestler. You? You’re decent at best but I wouldn’t necessarily call you phenomenal. Your partner Michael Callahan? I’m sure you and everyone else are well aware of my sentiments towards Mr. Callahan but even he would be classified as a phenomenal in-ring performer in my book. I want to be gracious to you Atken, I honestly do, but how can I be gracious to a man who has been in this business for as long as you have and still doesn’t possess the heart of a true champion? I’m going to do you a favor and let you in on a little secret because I don’t know if you are sensible of this or not but…Sally is going to have a field day with you at Christmas Chaos.
Bailey acknowledging the fact that Sally was a force to be reckoned with didn’t change his mind of one day hoping to cross paths with her one on one again.
But the prelude to all of that will arise this Sunday night in Louisville. I’m not out to prove anything to you or about you Atken, all I have to do is sit back and witness you destroy yourself. When the truth comes to light, all will see you deteriorate on your own. The hype of you being the number one contender or you being runner up at the last pay per view won’t mean a thing when Sally and I are fully determined and we are on the same page. You know what we’re capable of individually, so imagine what it’ll be like when the two of us are united together? The end result for you and Callahan won’t be a gratifying one I’ll tell you that.
And speaking of Callahan, he seems to be back in his groove. The same groove that he had when he first started here. A win over Kurt Noble is no easy feat for any person so I commend you on that Michael, but you and I still have some unresolved business. As much as I want to dwell on the fact of your dominance being rebounded or deceive myself into thinking that “This isn’t the Callahan that I want a piece of,” I know deep down in my heart that I am wrong. Wrong to cower or retreat over a man that has wreaked havoc in my personal life and in my professional life for months. You claim that I am the one who causes your anger to be stirred when in fact it is the opposite. You are a genius when it comes to playing reverse psychology.
I have never initiated any type of antagonism towards you; I’ve always only reacted in defense. From the bribes of wanting me to be apart of T.R.I. to asking me to sucker punch Sally because if I did you would help my uncle Terrance gain clemency. I intentionally avoided you for months because I knew the real you and I knew that if you pushed me too close to the edge, I would react but not in the way you would expect me to. If I caught wind of you being in a particular place in the backstage area during Asylum, I would take the scenic route instead. Or when I would go to the hotel after Asylum and find out which megastars were already checked in and if you happened to be one of them, I would leave promptly and find another hotel. That’s why I was okay with you and our “relationship,” a term that I use loosely.
But avoidance is never a way to tell yourself that you have truly resolved an incident. I thought I was good to go until I saw the face of my uncle and how he came to your aid and not mine. Something inside of me was altered that day and I’m unsure if I will ever be the same. People claim that it was the fame that changed me and that’s far from the truth. I had already achieved noteworthy things prior to that backstage incident and I was still the same old humble Anthony that I was before. I was foolish and ignorant enough to think that the wrestling business only involved wrestling, but once you got my blood involved in something that he shouldn’t have been in Callahan, that’s when I woke up and smelled the java.
I finally understood that people just don’t want to pin you inside of a ring but they want to destroy you in more ways than physical. I finally realized that people are more concerned about some rich executives over at the Food Network than the well being of their own megastars.
Bailey’s subliminal jab at Reginald Schmidt was well timed. Though he didn’t make it known to Reginald or Bambi that night in the General Manager’s office, Bailey was hurt over the fact of him not getting a title rematch due to politics going on behind the scenes or the claims that he was "boring".
Callahan, I’m maturing as I grow and develop in this business, so I comprehend your recent lash outs towards me on social media. I comprehend the painful attacks on me with “Martinez” inside of that Chamber at One Night In Hell. I know that you desired to have me as your puppet because you saw something special in me. You saw my willingness to please others and you saw the potential and the talent that I had. I’m glad that you were keen to The Promise but whatever happens between you and I from here on out is personal because you wanted it that way. You made it personal and in my position of vengeance, I am also making it personal. The whole fiasco with your ex fiancé will be nothing compared to what I have in store for you.
Bloggers have been talking nonstop about wanting a “Bailey vs. Callahan” match at Christmas Chaos, and that could very well be the case if J-Hop and I advance to the final round of this tag team tournament. The Dying Breed going up against War Ensemble and one other team would be good for the wrestling world but in the meantime, I’m focused on this coming Sunday night. Rage fills my bones whenever I look at you or even think about you Callahan so imagine what will be going through my mind when we are face to face on Asylum? You are a talented wrestler so I tread lightly when it comes to making promises of what I plan on doing to you. But not too lightly to where you think that you are going to batter me. I have too much heart and way too much courage to easily falter to a lying scumbag like you.
You attempted to assassinate my character on Twitter with that poorly Photoshopped picture of me and some random girl who is not Tasha. But you’re going to have to try a lot harder than that. Fake pictures and threats on social media will never be the cause of my demise. You cannot assassinate the character of Anthony Bailey Mr. Callahan and you will understand just what I mean on Sunday.
{{Anthony pauses for a brief moment to calm himself down by exhaling a deep breath.}}
And lastly, I would like to address Sally Talfourd, my partner for this week’s edition of Asylum. I think we are in a much better place now than we were before. One Night In Hell was nearly one full month ago so we’ve both moved on and engaged in separate ventures since then. But just so you know and to make it known that we are on the same page, you have nothing to worry about and as your partner you will be given my sufficient cooperation. We are both unique in our own ways but we are both similar. Both of us have always strived to be the best that we are able to be and both of us want Asylum to be the creme of the crop of all the brands here in APW. And this is not me trying to take away from Overdrive or Meltdown, but Asylum constantly gets overlooked but sooner or later that will change and the perception that was once prevalent of this preeminent brand will vanish forever.
With The Dying Breed by my side and the predicaments that I once had with Sally cast aside, I feel like a new man. A man who forgives and a man who is looking to capitalize on the second wind that he was given. This is a new day for The Promise and I’m not going to let Atken, Callahan, Kash, or anyone else steal my joy. Though today is Thanksgiving, I never want to lose the appreciation of being thankful for life and for the people I have around me. Life may not be going the way that you think it should but don’t overlook the fact that you even have the gift of life. You are a living breathing specimen on God’s green earth so why are you going to waste your time? I know I’m going to seize the moment of every opportunity and the first opportunity that I want to take advantage of starts with both of my opponents on this week’s Asylum. And why do I have the confidence to be making such bold statements? It’s because I am Anthony Bailey…APW’s only Promise…the only Promise that can't be broken. Happy Thanksgiving everybody and until Sunday night…
