We open to an audio recording of Logan Alexander with a black screen.
It’s week two of being champion. It seems like I can’t do right in the eyes of others either. Fans have given me grief for lots lately. My conduct during my match with Aubrey drew negative responses. I wasn’t doing anything unfair, and there were points that I eased off on Aubrey because of the things I saw going on. The match the week before against Storm Front, fans gave me the same treatment because I wasn’t pulling punches against those two ladies.
It gets so aggravating dealing with those responses while treating my opponents with respect by treating them equally. I’m not pulling punches but not fighting unfairly either. I’m trying my best every time I get into the ring.
Last week, I do the right thing and abide by the rules. I call the number one contender’s match cleanly and doing everything by the book, but the match ends with a double count out because Valo and Deruty decided to fight outside the ring and sabotage each other’s attempts to get back, so I get booed again…
The more I try to do the right thing, the more criticism I end up dealing with it seems. Everyone questions my motives, values, and integrity. It all seems to revolve around situations I’m put into by the general manager and his assistant. They’re the most recent in a string of people out to remove the threat of M&M from APW.
But through all I’ve had to deal with, I’ve been confident I’d endure. The goal I’m aiming is to get into position to compete for and win the World Tag Team championship. It was important was for the two of us to stick together, no matter what obstacles were put in front of us, and that’s exactly what we have done to this point.
We’ve taken on tag teams, single competitors, and each other. We’ve had people trying to plant seeds of doubt to destroy the trust between us and split up our team or find a way to make us turn on one another and make us enemies. There has been no end to the attempts against us whether out of dislike, or jealousy, or fear.
And two weeks ago, when I got the win over Aubrey, and with what happened the following week… that was the closest anyone has gotten to splitting us up. But we never reached the point of no return. We’re still a team and still in pursuit of our main goal and determined to achieve it whatever it takes.
This week we have the chance to make our work count and get an opportunity to fight for the Tag Team championships at Christmas Chaos. I’d like to say that with all we’ve been through, the worst is behind us, but that would be selling our opponents short. This is most likely the toughest challenge we’ve had to face in the ring.
I think it’s about time to see what we’re made of against one of the mainstays of this company.
The recording ends.
The scene opens to Logan working as his desk in his office at his school, as the camera heads into his office and the person with the camera takes a seat across the desk.
So how are you holding up as champion?
Logan looks up at the camera, scowling slightly
It’s been loads of fun…
I’m deserving of being champion. I just don’t like the way I won the title. As champion, I get to listen to everyone else running their mouth about how they are more deserving of being the champion and how they’ll be glad to take the title off my hands. They don’t even grasp the issue I have with carrying the title. They just spout off like they understand.
I don’t like taking shortcuts to championships and accolades because I don’t need them. If I’m going to win something, it’ll be because I’m better than my opponent. Not because I cheated, had outside help, or an unfair advantage. I still haven’t looked at the title since my match with Aubrey.
In the last two weeks you haven’t even looked at the North American championship?
He sits back and shakes his head.
Why bother? It’s exactly the same as when I got it and I don’t carry it around because it would send the wrong message. I’m not proud of how I got it, and wearing it around would be like saying I’m fine with how I won it. I take a look at the roster in APW and I’m hard pressed to name anyone who would have this issue. I’m pretty sure that anyone else would gladly cross any line just to have a championship because most of them know they’d be hard pressed to earn it fairly.
So it’s like your own little protest?
Pretty much. It wouldn’t change how things are but it feels like the right thing to do… which I’m sure I’ll get lots of flak for.
Well, you know that doesn’t matter. Let people say and do what they want.
Logan sighs, lowering his gaze to his desk.
I know. It’s just bothersome. So long as Aubrey and I are on the same page, there’s nothing else to worry about except the challenge before us.
Exactly, so it’s time for you to focus on the one ahead of you.
Logan looks up at the camera and nods. The scene fades out.
When the scene comes back, we find Logan sitting in the corner of a ring in his school. The camera appears to be set up in the ring. Logan’s in his ring gear and has his arms draped over the middle rope.
Tag team tournament semi-finals this week. M&M reunited and facing our biggest challenge since stepping into the ring with one another. We’re looking to punch our ticket to the championship match at Christmas Chaos. It would definitely make for a busy week before Christmas if Aubrey and I win, but you don’t get better by taking it easy. Getting there will be a chore, as War Ensemble aren’t pushovers.
I’ll admit that with recent events I haven’t prepared for War Ensemble the way I should have. Been busy and prioritising has been a challenge… one more for me to deal with. I’ve heard that Michael Callahan might be competing injured, which would be a shame. I know what it’s like to have an important match looming and not be one hundred percent. But given his reputation, I don’t expect that to deter him. He’ll come and give his best in the ring because he’s driven by that same desire that Aubrey and I have. We all want to be the best.
He smirks at the camera.
Callahan’s done one heck of a job too. He’s the longest reigning Suicidal Pro-Life champion, did a heck of a job turning the heads of people in APW and seemed on the fast track to World championship glory. As of late, he’s had a much harder time catching a break. I can sympathize. I know what it’s like to be at the top, only to have your opportunity snatched away.
But with what he’s gone through… he’s snapped. You can see it almost every time he goes to the ring. He’s quite dangerous in the ring, bending and breaking the rules when it suits him. The list of people getting the sense knocked out by him with a bat is getting longer, and he’s gotten away with it on some occasions to secure wins.
He’s a man that I can legitimately worry about facing. I generally don’t but Callahan is a guy that could snap and lay waste to you at the drop of a hat. That’s the kind of person I tend to try and avoid. I saw everyone get laid out by him in the elimination chamber. I saw him put Kurt Noble down. He knocked out the World champion last week. That’s the stuff I keep in mind as I approach this match.
I don’t like to fight fire with fire… but if Callahan throws down the gauntlet this week with us, we’re capable of responding in kind. We can bend and break the rules with the best. We just don’t need to because we’re that good and we won’t hesitate to prove it. We’re going to push Callahan hard in the ring and we might just force him to the point where he figures that his only choice is to bypass the rules like a good politician.
He shakes his head slowly. When he stops, he’s looks at the camera thoughtfully.
I have to wonder how much he wants this match. Callahan didn’t seem too thrilled to be in this tournament a few weeks ago, complaining about being involved without his consent. He’s got a partner that he doesn’t really know. He’s fighting for a championship he’s never shown interest in. He’s a World title or bust sort of competitor.
No one can be sure that War Ensemble would have made it out of the first round if that match hadn’t been called off by the general manager, and he’d better not be expecting the same sort of conclusion for this match either. I bet the GM would gladly throw his support to him, and I’m already expecting it, so it’s not exactly an advantage to rely on.
Callahan… you’ve fallen short during the last couple of months, especially when it counted. You can give excuses for all of it, but you have to own up to your part as well. You simply have to be better, but you rely on so many crutches that you just can’t seem to get the job done. We’re not here to make your job easier. We’re here to put you out of the running for good and leave you wondering what went wrong this time.
He shifts up to a crouching position, holding the ropes as he leans forward.
The G.I.’s a hard one to get a bead on. He looks like someone that follows orders, based on his last showing with Callahan, so I’ve got no idea what the big guy can do on his own yet. He’s been mostly brute force, but I’ll have to wait and see what else he brings to the ring. He might be Callahan’s ace in the hole for this one depending on what he can do.
He pushes up to his feet, looking down to the camera.
But it’ll take more than one unknown soldier and a crafty politician to put us away. Aubrey and I are still one of the most solid pairings in APW. We’ve outlived every other team that was here when we arrived and we plan on being here after most of this latest batch move on. We offer what’s needed to be lasting champions and we’re going to bring everything we have to get the job done.
We haven’t squandered any of our opportunities to this point. Even in singles competition we’ve both been able to get the job done. Through it all we’ve just made one another better and pushed our limits further. When everyone thought we’d crumble, we’ve come out stronger than before. When we’ve been looked at as the underdogs, we’ve come out on top. None of that’s going to change.
We’re here to get the job done and go right to the top. It doesn’t matter what everyone else thinks. Like us or hate us, you’ll definitely take note of us. And if you think you can stop us… give us your best shot. We’re not going anywhere.
Logan smiles confidently, and makes a beckoning motion to the camera.
So bring it on War Ensemble. Show us what you’ve got.
The scene fades to black.
