It is a well stated fact that APW is the greatest Wrestling Federation in the world today. That was known WELL before the Experts deemed it so. That was known WELL before the internet deemed it so. It’s just been a fact of being for a long time now. So now that we’re clear on that one indisputable fact, doesn’t it seem simple common sense that certain conclusions are simple no brainers. Like for instance, the GREATEST WRESTLER and Undisputed Champion of the Greatest institution in the world today would therefore be the GREATEST WRESTLER alive?
I’m sure the masses watching at home are puzzled that such a statement is anything but common knowledge. But you’d be very surprised about the thought process of the masses at large. It seems that fact is heavily disputed, and even challenged by those in far inferior institutions. It’s a claim that is made way too often with way to high of a dispersion of anything that resembles this form of reality. In is a statement that lacks any factual accuracy, yet it is still made and accepted on a large scale. Now, I realize that this logic is impossible for you to get a grasp on, and trust me you’re not alone.
Unfortunately for those institutions, Action Packed Wrestling has a very accommodating open door policy. And unfortunately for the unfortunate morons at said institutions, The Undisputed Champion of APW doesn’t take kindly to glory whores trying to steal his well deserved spotlight away from him. So when one of these lesser individuals from a shithole backyard wrestling federation decides to challenge anybody from anywhere in some misguided attempt to prove his homeland’s superiority, Terry Marvin answered the call.
Code Red Wrestling is full of delusional individuals who seem to defend and protect their tiny little hole in the wall with blind ambition. While I applaud their loyalty, I have to question the sanity and general mental well being of these people. Buck Dempsey has clearly suffered many head wounds in his 485 years inside a wrestling ring (figures estimated and not based on actual fact). He doesn’t realize that making certain statements and challenges is a slap in the face of those who live on a plain of existence so much higher than he could ever hope to achieve.
But like the accommodating and open company that we are, APW will role out the welcome mat for this senile grandfather from the Jurassic period and show him true Action Packed hospitality. In doing so, the Greatest champion on the planet will prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that it has true staying power and will deny Code Red access to the upper echelon and send it packing as the flash in a pan upstart that we all know it truly is. Welcome to APW Buck, let me show you to the guest room, where I’ll place the final nail in your overstayed career.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Portland, Maine…. In the cusp of winter, there is no place in the world I’d rather not be. Yet, Meltdown is physically incapable of traveling to somewhere hospitable in December as the Wal Mart Parking Lot arenas down south are normally full.
Yet here, in the brisk winter wind, the naked trees sway back and forth ever so gently as a few flakes of snow fall over the hard marble and granite headstones of a local cemetery. Standing near a large mausoleum in the gray morning light is the APW Undisputed Champion Terry Marvin.
”It’s so great, once again, to be in Portland Maine, home of the…..um…..Bah, I’m sure there’s something here if I dug into it enough. Unfortunately my duties as the Greatest athlete to ever step foot inside a wrestling ring far outweigh my need for local culture and history.”
Terry smiles slightly and then looks around the cemetery a bit and then back to the camera.
”I’m sure you’re thinking that this is a pretty morbid way to begin the morning, and I’d truly have to agree with you. Unfortunately, this is the most happening place in this entire one horse town! You see, more than just bones and rotting flesh are buried in these grounds, for this is Portland Maine….where dreams come to die!
This desolate wasteland that time forgot is where those who have failed to make their mark on the world and those who’s prime is far past all conglomerate into one giant cloud of depression. So it’s only fitting that this is the historic setting of Buck Dempsey’s final wrestling match of his career.”
Terry pauses for a second letting that bit of information sink in before speaking up again.
”Now before you jump on my case with “Don’t you dear threaten that old man with physical violence, that’s senior abuse!” bullshit, let me explain. His career won’t be ending because of the horrible beating I bestow upon him. Although if that were truly my goal I would stop at nothing till it was achieved, his career will be ending for another reason.
You see, tonight, Buck Dempsey takes on the pinicle of our sport, GOD’S GIFT TO WRESTLING himself. And let’s be honest here, after facing the greatest challenge he has ever and will ever face, knowing that never again will he meet a specimen in that ring with even an iota of my talent, he will simply lose the will to lace those boots ever again.
After all, for everyone in this business there is one thing that keeps us coming back for more. It’s the possibility of that next challenge, of pushing ourselves to that next limit, of seeing how far we can really go. And in every career, there comes that moment where you’ve reached your ceiling, where you can no longer progress any further. The smart ones know when to pack it up and go home. Then there are those holding on to a dream that has long sense let them go. In Buck Dempsey’s case, he’s held on way too long, and It’s my duty as a wrestling fan as well as God’s chosen Wrestling representative to usher a man into the wrestling promised land!”
Terry pauses for a minute and looks down at an unmarked grave. He says a few words under his breath saying a prayer for Buck’s career, makes a bastardized religious motion with his hand and then looks up solemnly into the camera.
”Buck Dempsey, I must say man that you are the prime example of a man who’s devoted his entire life to this career. You’ve pretty much wrestled against every single name worth mentioning over your career. In fact, when wrestlers talk about longevity, your name is the first one to pop up every single time. For that, Buck, I applaud you. After all, it takes a lot of heart and commitment to stick with a career that you’re so mind numbingly mediocre at for SOOOO long! I mean to always be a bridesmaid but yet never have that handsome man of your dreams pop your cherry has to be so frustrating. Not that I know how you feel, as being inadequate has never entered into my genetic makeup.
How do you do it Buck? How do you stick with a sport who has long since forgotten you and written you off as a lifetime journeyman who has never been expected to be the pinnacle force? How do you wake up in the morning and lace up those boots over and over knowing that you are simply just another figure in that ring so that the real stars don’t have to wrestle shadows and imaginary figures? Granted that not everyone could be born with my natural talent and charisma and ability to rise to any occasion, but come on Buck. You’re just like Charlie Brown, always going for that damned football with the perfect kick only to have that bitch snatch it away from him with a devilish grin on her face, seem like a rousing success in comparison!”
Terry flashes a smile now before continuing.
”Let me explain something else to you Buck…. You’re continual harping on and on about standing toe to toe with Doug E. Fresh is as stale as you’re tread marked tighty whiteys. It’s extremely sad when all you have to grasp onto is ALMOST successes. While you were fighting for survival, just striving to be noticed in this year’s Extreme tournament, I was standing out above the rest! I swept my bracket, making every single person who was unfortunate enough to be paired up with me regret their draw immediately as I flawlessly achieved perfection.
I don’t have to dwell on my failures Buck. That’s what being the GREATEST THING TO EVER HAPPEN TO WRESTLING and achieving every goal I’ve ever sought out provides me. I have nothing but success and trophies to look at. It feels great to know that I am what every single man in this business strives to be. Sure, it puts a giant bullseye on my chest, but as you will soon find out it only makes me that much stronger! See the more pressure placed on me, the more dire the circumstances, the bigger my impact becomes, the higher I rise to overcome my obstacles, and the more I desire to prove every person who has ever disparaged me ABSOLUTELY wrong!
And this match Buck, this epic contest between two people from two very different wrestling institutions is simply another chance for me to rise above hardships. See, after my great success in the group stages at the Extreme Tournament, I failed to progress any farther. For one second I let doubt creep into my mind that I couldn’t hack it against the best in the world from ALL over the world. I listened to the critics who spouted off ridiculous claims that I could not reach outside my element and beat somebody far beyond my comfort zone. Tonight, Buck, I bust that overplayed myth by taking a staple of longevity and standing in this business to his breaking point. And once there Buck, once I’ve got you where you can no longer go on, where you’re ready to snap, where you can’t bend one single millimeter further and the pressure is about to make you break in half….that’s when I really shine. That’s when I force you to look deep inside your soul and come to terms that your storied career IS OVER!”
Terry’s face is fierce and merciless.
”Though I respect you Buck and what you do inside that ring, Personally I can’t stomach you for one second! You represent everything that is wrong with this world today. You’re a mediocre talent at best who is applauded for it! You get the equivalent of the participation trophy and are loved and warshiped for it! What sense does that make? Why should a man like you be idolized when it’s men like me who have done EVERYTHING, who have accomplished EVERYTING, and somehow still need to prove themselves each and every day?
What is it that makes you so special Buck? Is it this world’s Grandpa complex that makes us strive for that time in our childhood where the man we looked up to the most was old, decrepit, and worthless in everyone’s eyes but our own? Let me tell you Buck, being older than the sun is no achievement, at least not one worthy of the praise that comes your way. It sickens me to no end that people seem to look up to you for no reason what so ever. It disgusts me that your name is more highly respected off the lips of these moronic fans that you pander too like a mindless sheep.
It will give me more pleasure than I thought humanly possible, outside of that one time in a massage parlor in Tokyo which is another story altogether, to end your aura of lies and deceit. It will make me puff out my chest with pride to show the whole world what you really are, WHO you really are. And I will revel in the chance to put you in your place, to make you drop to your knees and beg for me to stop, to plead with the gods of wrestling to end your torture and put you out of your misery.
IT will be MY pleasure to end the legacy of the little engine who almost could…..and put my stamp on the final chapter in the story of Buck Dempsey.”
Terry begins walking now past a few people mourning for fallen lovers.
”Tell me something Buck, once I make you realize that the world of wrestling no longer has any use for you by handily defeating you in the middle of that ring, do you think people will mourn over your career? Do you think they’ll celebrate it like a person who has left their mark on this world and lived to their fullest? Or do you think they’ll cry over all the wasted opportunities and dreams not fulfilled?
You see, the two of us are such polar opposites, Buck. Where you’ve given your life to this business and are revered by the fans for accomplishing next to nothing, I too have given everything only to have the fans despise and loathe me because of my outstanding success. You’ve worked your ass off only to be written off as a perennial loser. I don’t simply seek out success, it flocks to me like a extraordinary magnet!
Tonight when we step in that ring together Buck, you’ll be looking at a guy experiencing yet another upswing in his glorious career who simply wants to keep the ball rolling. This is your chance, if you’ve ever had one to notch that great victory that has eluded you throughout your days as jobber to the stars! This is a chance to prove all the doubters wrong. This is it Buck, that one defining moment that will be talked about for decades to come. Will you rise to the occasion, or fall flat on your face like you’ve done so many times in the past?”
Terry continues walking till he reaches the gates of the cemetery where he turns to the camera once again.
”Tonight Buck, you step in the ring with a talent that you’ve never seen before in your life.
Tonight, you come face to face with your biggest challenge, with your toughest opponent EVER.
Tonight, I expect nothing less than the fight of my life out of you Old man.
But in the end, I will rise to the top, as the cream of the crop always does!
And as a display of my respect for what you’ve done in ring, and your lengthy career, I will grace you with one hell of a showcase! Consider this your SWAN song.
Where War Games was the most embarrassing night of your life, tonight will be a celebration of the career that was Bucky Dempsey.
However, the result will be the same, as I will stand over you victorious with my arms risen in extasy.
Get Ready Buck…tonight I write your glorious exit….tonight I make you a star.
IT’S SHOWTIME!”
Terry grins one last time before exiting the gates of the cemetery and the scene fades to black.
