::Sweat drips down the forehead of Amy Zing. Once again “the Hong Kong Sensation” is in the familiar gym setting. While other people work out on various pieces of equipment or perform various exercises, Amy is by the punching bag again. She is in her usual work out clothes, the gym shorts, Nike Air sneakers, sports bra and tank top. Her hair is tied in a ponytail.::
::Amy is seated, breathing heavily. Her towel is draped over her shoulder. An open bottle of water in her left hand. Her right hand is sliding up and down her thigh, rubbing it. It is clear she has been here for awhile, working the bag and practicing her devastating kicks. It is no surprise though, given the big match she has coming up.::
“You know what? I am not really sure how a five-pack challenge works. I know how a six-pack challenge works. I would like to assume that a five-pack challenge would work the same way, minus one wrestler. Still, odds seem better to me than they would in something like a championship scramble. Those are just great big bloody messes I think. No, this way seems much easier.”
::Amy stops rubbing her leg and wipes the sweat from her forehead. She takes another drink from her water bottle. “The Hong Kong Sensation” looks upwards and sighs, closing her eyes. She takes a deep breath and exhales slowly top calm and center herself.::
“There is a belief in Chinese history known as the Mandate of Heaven. This belief has been at the core of Chinese political philosophy for millennia, going back to the earliest days of China. The Mandate of Heaven states that as long as a ruler is a good ruler, heaven will bless his rule and allow it. However, if the ruler is a bad ruler, than heaven will find someone else to take the throne and rule. The Mandate of Heaven is the reason why China has had so many different dynasties every few centuries, give or take. Even the Chinese communist party, which now rules over China, recognizes the Mandate of Heaven. It openly and actively encourages, really demands if one thinks about it, that a ruler of China be a good ruler.”
::Opening her eyes, Amy lowers her head.::
“Now granted, this is the APW and not China, but I feel the comparison could be made. I will certainly admit that it is more skill, ability, will, determination and a bit of luck than it is the will of heaven. But this is similar to the idea of the Mandate of Heaven with people trying to replace someone they consider unworthy.”
::Amy closes her eyes and pauses as she realizes she is starting to ramble. She takes a deep breath and slowly exhales to regain her focus.::
“I mention the Mandate of Heaven, because I find the current situation with the North American Championship very similar. I really disliking judging people, and I am a bit hesitant to say it, but Logan Alexander has not proven the champion we all thought he would be. Really sort of a whiner actually. So, while I cannot speak for the three other challengers in this match, I personally have no desire to see Logan Alexander retain. Of course, either way, I am sure he will complain.”
“I could complain and cry about nonsense too. I could complain it is hardly fair that my first title shot in the APW is to occur on December 22nd, but everyone is saying that, according to the Mayans, the world is going to end on December 21st. I mean really, how fair is that that after I am able to get into the match, I cannot even compete in it because the 13th b’ak’tun is ending and we’re all going to die. On top of that, I went Christmas shopping as well, so that’s another bit of bad news. Can’t celebrate Christmas on the 25th if the world ends on the 21st, now can I? No, I really don‘t think so. It is just totally unfair. The ancient Mayans have been conspiring against to prevent my title shot and stop my celebrating Christmas.”
::Amy smiles and laughs a bit, shaking her head.::
“Did that sound as stupid and childish as I thought?”
::She smiles and sighs a bit.::
::As she speaks, it is very similar to how she spoke of Logan Alexander a week ago, that mix of anger, disappointment, irritation and frustration.::
“Complaining about everything and throwing out conspiracy theories is all you have done this past month Logan Alexander. I am sure somehow you will see this five-pack challenge as unfair. I also have little doubt you will complain about the Tag Team Championship match now being falls count anywhere. Rather than rise up and face the challenge, you blame others for your failures or when things do not go as planned. I cannot even begin to express how pathetic and disappointing that is. The APW has three shows worth of wrestlers, all of whom would love to be in your spot at Christmas Chaos. I mean, I am not even wrestling on the show. I am sure any Meltdown megastar would love to be North American Champion or have the chance to prove themselves as champion and maybe even become a dual champion. But no, not you. All you do is play the whiner and the victim. The Chinese symbol for crisis and opportunity are the same. It means that even in a crisis, even in some sort of chaotic situation, there is still opportunity. It is up to us to rise and meet that opportunity, not whine and complain all the bloody time.”
::Again, Amy stops herself from going off on some sort of rambling tangent. She sighs out of frustration and shakes her head, trying to regain her focus.::
“Yes, I saw this past week on Meltdown when you attempted to forfeit the North American Championship and questioned why the fans were so eager to forgive me while condemning you. First of all Logan, it hardly works as a legitimate forfeit if you do it AFTER someone suggests it. If the title was eating at you like some sort of Tell-Tale Heart, you should have forfeited it the week you won it, or at least the following Meltdown. But no, you didn’t, because you’re the victim. As for the fans? They cheer me because they know I will never turn my back on them. They know as long as they cheer for me, I will keep fighting. They are in my corner because they know that I know that without them, I’m just some girl throwing kicks at a person inside an empty building. They cheer me because they know I know they are the only reason I make money doing this. They pay to see me do what I do.”
“Somewhere along the way Logan Alexander, you lost that. It became less and less about them and more and more about you. To you, it became about Alexander Duvall and Sienna Harrison’s plotting against you. It became all about you. All you do is complain and whine.”
::She sighs heavily and shakes her head. Her voice returns to her normal tone.::
“I do not hear you whine or complain Kaylyn James Evans. No, you never once made excuses or complained that you were being mistreated. Every time you faced a challenge, you have either risen to the occasion or at least gave that challenge everything you had. Even when you lose, you take your opponent to their limit. You have done nothing but dominate most of your opponents since joining the APW. You never struck me as a person really concerned with how you win a match, Kaylyn, as long as you win.”
“Kaylyn, I have said many times that you are one of the toughest people I have ever faced. As I said, you have been dominant since coming to APW. I have a great deal of respect for you. You and I are not friends and we may never be. I am fairly certain we have not even had a conversation or simple exchange of greetings. None of that matters though as my respect for you is based on your ability and your achievements. I don’t have to like you to respect you.”
::Setting the water bottle down, Amy then places the towel down on the floor and stands up.::
“However, Kaylyn, do not mistake the fact I respect you to mean I am unwilling to fight you. I have proven my willingness to face you more than once. This time will be no different. You have had the Mandate of Heaven Kaylyn. You have worn a championship. I have yet to do either. I would be lying if I said I did not want to be a champion.”
::Amy lifts her arms up over her head and arching her back, stretching out.::
“No Kaylyn, I do want to become a champion. I have every intention of trying to win this match. Why you and I may not get along, but I think we can both agree that neither of us want to see Logan Alexander retain the title. So I will fight Kaylyn. With everything I have, I will fight and I will try my best to win this match and finally become a champion.”
::Slowly she slides into a lunge, stretching out her left leg and holds that position.::
“I know you will fight as well Donald Deruty. Oh yes, you will fight. You and I are similar in that regard, we are both fighters. We both go out into the ring and give everything we have to our fans. Neither of us are willing to quit. You are willing to take high risks to win a match. Both those make you dangerous.”
“I take nothing away from you Donald Deruty. You are a fantastic athlete and a great competitor. I make no excuses for the tag team match. I lost. You and Roy Speede have proven to be a great tag team since coming together. You made it all the way to the finals, and I do not hear you complaining of the stipulation change. You have to know what an incredible thing it would be should you win at the Meltdown Supershow and then claim victory at Christmas Chaos. Winning the North American Championship and then the Tag Team Championships would make you a dual champion.”
“I hate to do this Donald, but I really can’t let that happen. It is not personal, only business, as they say. I would love to see you and Roy Speede win the Tag Team Championships. I really would. You two definitely deserve it. But Donald, I want the North American Championship. I want to be the one to take it from Logan Alexander and hopefully, maybe, get him to shut up. So, that being the case, Donald, regardless of any respect or admiration I have for you, I am going to do my best to take that title. You have a second chance at a championship, the next night. I do not. I have every intention of winning my first championship ever.”
::She switches, sliding into a lunge and stretching out her right leg. Again, she holds this position as she stretches.::
“I think this would be your first championship as well Tuhoa Valo. Yes, you claim to have had a lot of titles and been very big in Finland. Now I am not calling you a liar, but there is no proof. I can’t really say. Maybe you were huge over there. Maybe you are just making stuff up. Records in Finland say you haven’t done anything there. Hardly makes you a “Finnish Phenom”, then again, I really don’t live in Hong Kong, yet I am called “the Hong Kong Sensation”. Odd, isn’t it?”
::Amy shrugs as best she can in a standing side lunge position.::
“Anyway, rather or not those records actually exists and your claims of past glory are true, it does not take away from what you are capable of in the ring. No Tuhoa Valo, you are a skilled wrestlers and performer. You would have to be to get where you are if that were not the case. The validity of your past doesn’t really factor into this whole thing. It is what you can do now that matters.”
“Tuhao, you and I are alike in that we are both looking to prove ourselves. This match is that the opportunity. For one of us, this match could be a huge win. It could silence critics and put to rest the doubts people have of us. But unfortunately, it can only happen for one of us. Only one of us will be able to prove themselves to the world should either of us be victorious and claim the championship. Personally, I would like it to be me. You have a rich and successful past, so you claim. I, however, do not. I plan on change that and earn the Mandate of Heaven by becoming the new North American Champion.”
::Amy slides up into a standing position. She rolls her shoulders a little, then rolls her head, getting herself loosened up.::
“However, that is the goal for all of us I should think.”
::She holds up a finger, as if to tell someone to wait. There is a look of sudden realization on her face, like she recalls something she should not have so easily forgotten.::
“Well, except for Logan Alexander, as he claims. Really was not believing that attempt to forfeit the title.”
::She makes a face and shakes her head. Again, she takes a deep breath and exhales. This time is not slowly. It is more as if out of frustration.::
“But anyway, I cannot speak for Kaylyn James Evans, Donald Deruty or Tuhoa Valo, but I think it is safe to say none of us want to see you remain APW North American Champion. I would go so far as to say the APW fans no longer want you to remain champion. So Logan, you get your wish. After so many weeks, one of us will hopefully lift your terrible burden and become the new North American Champion.”
“This is what you want, is it not? To be freed of the title you claim so many people helped steal from your partner, despite you taking every advantage the interference presented. Now that moment is here. You are more than likely going to lose this match, as it stands to reason that you won’t actually fight to keep it. You must realize if you fight to keep your championship, then you prove yourself to be completely false. You will show the world that despite everything you said, your playing of the reluctant champion, that all of it was simply false. You will prove yourself to be a liar and a hypocrite.”
“A week ago, I asked you to man up and be the Logan Alexander of old. I got down on my knees and begged you to do it. You didn’t. Instead, you gave me the you that you have become. You gave me the whining and complaining shadow of the Logan Alexander you once were. Win or lose, regardless how you make out in the the five-pack challenge, I have no doubt that you’ll still just complain about your mistreatment and how you’re being abused while still playing the reluctant champion who fought off four challengers to retain the belt he does not want, like the petulant spoiled brat you‘ve become.”
“Now Logan, well now I am not begging nor am I asking, I am simply telling you not to show up for the Meltdown Supershow. Just do us all a favor and don’t bother showing, because unlike you Kaylyn James Evans, Donald Deruty, Tuhoa Valo and I all actually want to be North American Champion. You have already lost the mandate Logan, the remaining for of us are just trying to find the next bearer.”
::Looking at the bag, Amy shifts into a ready stance. There is a focus and a drive in her eyes. It is audible in her voice. It is mixed in there with the anger, disappointment, irritation and frustration she seems to have developed to Logan Alexander.::
“No Logan, I think it is safe to say your lackluster reign as the whining, crying, complaining victim of a reluctant champion is over.”
::She turns from the bag to look into the camera, glaring at it as if talking to Logan Alexander, and by extension, the other competitors in this match.::
“I am walking into the Meltdown Supershow to show everyone why I am simply Amy Zing and give myself an early Christmas present this holiday season; the North American Championship. So Kaylyn, Donald and Tuhoa I wish you all luck. Logan Alexander, as I said, don’t show up. This season I plan to give my fans a present when I knock Logan Alexander out. I am going to do my best to finally claim my Mandate of Heaven.”
::With a sudden burst of quickness, Amy nails a high speed roundhouse kick to the punching bag in front of her. The sound of the impact the kick makes with the bag echoes through the building. The bag swings back and forth from the impact.::
“So Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah and Joyous Kwanza! Kaylyn, Donald, Tuhoa. I will see you all at the Meltdown Supershow. Logan…”
::Amy sighs out of frustration again.::
"You know what? Show up to the match or don’t don‘t show, I really don’t bloody care. Either way, I am sure you‘ll find something else to bitch about.”
::As the bag‘s swinging slows down, Amy catches it with her most devastating kick, the Fenghuang Kick. The scene fades to black as “the Hong Kong Sensation” connects with her Fenghuang Kick to the punching bag.::
::Amy is seated, breathing heavily. Her towel is draped over her shoulder. An open bottle of water in her left hand. Her right hand is sliding up and down her thigh, rubbing it. It is clear she has been here for awhile, working the bag and practicing her devastating kicks. It is no surprise though, given the big match she has coming up.::
