Afterthoughts
About five minutes ago one of the APW officials walked in here. He congratulated me on my first APW win.
He also told me I had three minutes to think of a compelling promo.
I’m a bit shocked actually. My old promotion never let me talk, not even when the fans started getting behind me. They just told me to get out there and work, which is what I did. I’ve probably cut maybe three promos since I’ve been wrestling.
It’s really starting to hit me now—I’m not in the Bush leagues anymore; I’m in the majors. I guess I better start acting like I’m in the majors.
A few moments later I heard a knock on the door. As I open the door, I saw a nice looking young lady. She introduced herself as Hannah Storm. I had no idea who she was, but she handles all the interviews and such for Meltdown.
She gave me a small run down of how things would go down. I was slated to cut a small, two to three minute promo. The promo wouldn’t air on TV, but it would be featured on the website. That fact that the promo wasn’t going to be live was a bit relief, but, I was still a bit nervous.
Ms. Storm was able to pick up on my nervousness.
“Everything will be fine” she said after patting me on the shoulder. “Just take a deep breath and focus on what you want to say.”
I ran my fingers through my hair and took a couple of deep breaths. When I thought I was composed I said to her, “I’m ready whenever you are.”
Ms. Storm went to the door and ushered in a camera man. She held up her hand and counted down from five. After she said “one,” I saw the red light on the camera light up.
Showtime.
“Jake Youngblood, moments ago you picked up your first win here in APW. How are you feeling?”
“It’s been a few months since I’ve been in the ring. I thought I might be a little rusty; but I felt comfortable out there.”
“How long have you been wrestling?”
“Just a couple of years.”
“How do you think you stack up against the other wrestlers here in APW?”
“Ha, I understand that I’m just a rookie. Some of the people in APW have been in the business for decades. And that’s the very reason why I joined APW, to learn. It would be crazy for me to expect to come in here and dominate everyone; I haven’t been working long enough. But, I think I have something to offer to this company. I’m a hard worker, and I’m willing to learn. As a company, what better guy could you ask for?”
“Jake, thank you for your time.”
“Thank you.”
