The hammer comes down on top of the wooden coffin with an explosive eruption. Shadow steps back from the destruction with a stoic look on his face, his sledgehammer still embedded into the wood. Shadow is silent. He has not really spoken since Christmas Chaos. Not because his match with Victor left him speechless, it’s the fact he does not feel the need to speak. Shadow did not want to wrestle Victor, not in that match, and he wasn’t afraid of Victor, Shadow just knew the match would be a cluster ----. It was too. As a matter of fact the match is one of the worst in his career. Sloppy, and trashy, that how Shadow viewed that match. He hated it, because he knew wrestling Victor would lead to a match like that. In the past few weeks Shadow spend his time working through his frustrations with having such a crap match.
There is a flash to Shadow in his gym. This must have been a few days after the match as Shadow’s bruises and cuts are still prolific. His bandages seep a little bit of blood from the elevated heartbeat and his eye is swollen. Shadow is hitting the punching bag in his gym, the special one. It is the bag that Shadow has taken most of his frustrations out on, and inevitably had to duct tape up multiple times. He drives his fists repeatedly into the bag in anger, with sweat dripping down his face.
Next is a cut to the ring in Shadow’s gym. The first thing notices is the sound of the corners of the ring shifting. Shadow is running the ropes in anger, aside from the squeak of the ropes and the metal moving with his force, Shadow’s labored breath is heard. He is still silent now as he runs back and forth. Its also obvious that Shadow is not doing this just because of his match. He is doing this to make sure his body is still capable of wrestling. Just in case anything was injured in that match.
Another splice shows Shadow removing his bandages from the aforementioned match. Its been a week or so, because Shadow’s bruises have gone down and the blood covered bandages are not as soaked. His wounds look like mere scabs now. Shadow rinses off the areas with alcohol and water. His winces are heard as hell everyone feels the pain from alcohol cleaning a cut, it hurts like hell, don’t you dare try to deny it. Shadow reaches down and picks up an old white shirt. He dons it over his torso and tosses the bandages into the trash can next to him.
The last cut takes us over to Shadow watching Overdrive last week from his home in Texas. It’s a surprise he is not there. More importantly, the piece of paper on his table is from management in APW. Now if those of you playing the home game are wondering who that is with Jeff kidnapped, don’t worry about it. Shadow watched the events of Overdrive unfold without him on it. He takes a drink from his small glass, the contents appear to be dark. As he moves we see a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue next to Shadow on the table.
It cuts back to Shadow pulling the sledge hammer out of the coffin. It was a prank Chris Cyrus sent him. He sent it as a gift, “Shadow Is Dead.” That’s what the card said. He did not care that sent the prank but he did care that they actually though someone like Victor could end him. Victor didn’t have the weight to carry Shadow’s jockstrap. It took a freaking death match to win, and even then, Victor almost dropped the ball. As Shadow brings the hammer back down on the lid of the coffin he exhales, but never yells in frustration or says anything. He is focusing, imaging the coffin as someone else, and despite the popular rumor, its not Victor. Its actually Chris Cyrus. Shadow is channeling his anger into the hammer to take out his rage against having another match with the Axis. This time, Shadow was facing off against the other half of the Axis, not Biggs. To be honest Shadow had his fill of Biggs. Now he got to bury Chris Cyrus
instead.
Shadow: So this is what it comes down to?
He rips the sledgehammer from the coffin again and brings it back over his head and back down once more. The cuts and bruises now have almost faded from Shadow’s flesh. He has healed nicely in the time off. Shadow grunts after speaking those words and hit’s the wood with the steel a fourth time.
Shadow: Chris Cyrus and Shadow. A revamping of the feud. So what does it mean? That the feud will never die? But Cyrus, he wants to be the first man to beat every member of the A.K.A. He beat Slade at Shockwave, he beat Assassin at Test for the Best but what about me? No he has not beaten me, not one on one. It would be huge, because yes he would be able to be the one to say he single handedly defeated the A.K.A. So what does that mean to me? Well Cyrus, you will not be the man to do that. It would be a feat yes, almost like holding the XTream title for as long as you did. But I will not allow it. I lost to Biggs, I lost to Victor, but not to you. Hell everyone know what purpose you serve in A.P.W. When someone has been on a losing streak, they face you. Look at Slade. He lost the ladder tag match, and what happened? He came back and beat you. That’s what you are good for Cyrus, you’re the ‘pep match.’ And sure, after that P.O.S. match I had with Victor, I could you a little ‘pep.’ I think beating the holy hell out of you will do just that too.
A smile creeps across Shadow’s face as he smiles and raises the hammer high one more time and brings it down, the wooden handle snapping as it breaks through the base of the coffin. He lets go of the handle and lets it rest amongst the splinters of the coffin. As he walks away from the rubble Shadow continues to speak.
Shadow: I don’t think that you even realize what you are getting yourself into Chris. I’m pissed. I did not care about who won between myself and Victor, I didn’t give a damn at all. But for him to actually think it was a great match? That pisses me off, because it makes me look bad, and makes it look like I have low standards. I don’t I have always been about quality, unlike yourself who believes in quantity. Like the 3000 people you had to pay to friend you. Must suck being you Cyrus. No one respects you, not Cindy, even after that elegant meal you prepared for her. You had your best game rolling on that one too? Dim the lights, put on a candle or two, have your retard dress up and lay out your mac and cheese? Congratulations Cyrus, you are officially white trash. Did you do all your shopping at Dollar General on that one Cochise? That’s thinking it through, and why facing you is always cheers people up. Because you’re funny, not what you say, who you are. You’re that one person who believes everyone laughs with them, when they really are just laughing at them. You make me smile Cyrus, and because of that I will try to forget you blew your date money with Cindy Shannon on the gift I humbly wrecked.
He looks back at the coffin sitting there on the metal table.
Shadow: I’m not dead, and you will not lay me to rest Cyrus, not now not ever. After this week, Cyrus you will remember why you have never beaten me. You want to run your mouth about how I was a piss poor champion and how I will never be in your league, yet you live on the lie. You say I don’t belong in your ring, yet, you never beat me. Come on Chris, think about it. It’s the other way around son. And tonight I get to remind you, and everyone else who seems to have forgotten why I was the most dominate and longest reigning Overdrive Champion A.P.W. ever has had. You, Pence, Biggs, you are spin the same story about how I wasn’t worthy of that belt. But I earned it. And I fought for it, and in the end I lost it. Every reign comes to a end Cyrus, you of all people know that. The Axis is crumbling, they don’t have any gold so they grasp for power. Running Overdrive, making the rules, pissing people off. In the end you will never be nothing more than The Hardcore Kid to me Cyrus. You want to send me a coffin, tell me my time is up? Okay, you want to send me to hell? Been there, done that. But you think you will be the man to bury the legacy of Shadow? Not a snowballs chance Cyrus. I will remind you why I was undefeated from before Rasslemania until Shockwave. When the bell rings Cyrus, school starts, and you can try all you want to teach me to respect you, but I will make you remember me.
He stops and closes his eyes. The anger seething through his teeth as he speaks. We see where we are finally, in Shadow’s gym still. The ring is in the distance so it the punching bag. It has more tape on it than before. Shadow bore another hole into it. There is also a trash can nearby, piled with blood stained bandages. Just about everything from the flashbacks can be seen, everything but that piece of paper. Even Shadow’s Johnny Walker is down in the gym. He takes a deep breath to slow his heart rate. Shadow wants to hurt someone. He needs to face Cyrus to get this anger out. So much anger, so much hatred for the Axis and what they represent. This feud is not over, not yet at least.
Shadow: You will remember who I am Chris. I won’t let you forget. This match is not going to be quick, but it will be painful. I will show you what happens to the people who say they are going to bury me. Everyone who has tried to has failed and I am still standing. Cyrus, tonight I will make a spectacle of you, because if I am going to hell tonight Chris, I am taking your pitiful ass with me. Because there is one more thing Chris, one thing you keep forgetting, while you want to be the first man to beat every member of the A.K.A. I will be the one man to take out the entire Axis. I am pain, and I am vengeance Chris, but most importantly I am and will always be, Shadow!
