[[OOC: Sorry this is brief. We had to take my wife to the hospital on Sunday evening thinking she was in labor (they sent her home, baby will be here any day) and we had to take my daughter to the ER yesterday morning because of sickness. I just had a salivary stone pass. This week has been long. Thanks for your patience]]
Confidence is an emotion that elicits the feeling you are capable of doing something effectively, or at least efficiently.. Confidence leads to better self esteem and a brighter outlook on life.
Confidence and success usually go hand in hand. Some are overly confident even without success, but that’s not who I’m addressing.
My opponents this week are 3 of APW’s finest. My partners, are two of APW’s finest. I’m the odd man out.
EnviKado first. Two of the most respected men in APW. Competitors that wreak havoc upon their opponents. I’ve felt that wrath. It was a tough dose to take in one of my first matches on Overdrive.
Shadow. Dangerous man.
What am I doing?
The positive attributes of EnviKado and Shadow could take up volumes. Their weaknesses are few. The same could be said for my partners.
I’m the X-Factor. I’m going to be the difference maker.
I’m ready.
I’m Buckson Gooch. I may be down, but I’m sure not out.
You can have all the accolades in the world...but all I need is three seconds to be the difference.
The sound of the Axe crashing against wood can be heard for miles in the cold, stark, Arkansas air. Buckson Gooch reaches up again and obliterates another piece of wood. Such violent action. Gooch grabs the new firewood and tosses it into the pile before placing a new piece of wood before resting on his axe...and his mind wonders to a few weeks prior...
...Still sweaty from his match, Buckson Gooch stares at stares down the hallway. Shock and awe are still there. He’s honored and proud to be an APW MegaStar but not feeling very good after the more than capable Nick Watson handed him his head. Watson is a nice guy, but a very talented superstar that Gooch wasn't prepared for. A producer for APW distracts him from this great moment of personal reflection.
Producer: Have you seen the Nick Watson?
Buckson Gooch: No, I haven’t. Sorry.
What an odd request.
Buckson Gooch: Why do you need him? I’ll keep my eyes peeled.
Producer: We have a Make-A-Wish request to meet him.
Not only had Watson just made short work out of Gooch, but now Gooch would have to be on the lookout for him.
About that time, Watson, looking every bit as Hollywood as Gooch looks Possomgrape comes in. He's all cleaned up after his match. Buckson still sits there a mess and Watson looks like he would be ready for a photo shoot. The producer whisks him down the hallway as a young boy in a wheel chair turns the corner and comes down the hallway, he sees Watson and a $10,000,000 smile comes across his face. Watson shakes hands with the boy’s father and mother. You can tell the mother is choking back tears. Watson crouches down at eye level with the boy and begins to talk to him, the boy leans forward and surprises Watson with a hug. I can see the little troopers face over Watson’s shoulders, tears rolling down his cheeks. Watson embraces the boy and pulls back and dries away the tears. Somewhat ashamed the boy lowers his head and Watson puts his finger under the boy’s chin and lifts his face up. He smiles again. Watson points to a room and the father pushes the boy in and Watson pats the mother on the back and I can see her look up to him and mouth ‘thank you.’ Like a gentlemen, Watson lets her go in first and he follows…and then they are out of sight. Gooch wants to be like Watson, not the good looks...the being the difference maker in more people's lives than just his community.
The sound of boots crunching the crisp, dead earth didn’t snap Gooch from his day dream, Bane speaking surely did.
Mac Bane: Hey Buck. You finish your work?
Mac is messing with Buck. Mac is ready for work. Fresh and clean.
Mac Bane: You know, Buck. We accentuate your positives here in APW. I can’t expect you to have 10 years of experience. You’re a tough guy, but you are a rookie. Instead of just retraining you, I’ve always been a firm believer in accentuating the positives. You are unorthodox…you are different, but it works. Let’s just work with what works and hone in what doesn’t. I know you are beating yourself up over the losses, but don’t do that. You are still new to this. I know you can rise above the doubters and nay-sayers. You’re going to be great. It just won’t happen overnight.
Bane sees that his words have somewhat broken through the doubt in Gooch’s mind…but there is still something hanging on.
Mac Bane: You know, I really admire what you are doing here. You are bettering yourself and standing up for what you believe in. Your hard work is paying off…and to think. You are only going to get better.
Buckson picks up the axe and runs his finger across the smooth blade. He is searching for words, but can find none.
Mac Bane: You have your chance to achieve glory this week. You are working hard. You can relate to people. The redemption from your past is going to be what drives you to future glory.
Buck brings up the axe and brings it down with force splitting the wood evenly. Bane grabs another piece and plops it down.
Buckson Gooch: I’m not just doing this for me. I’m doing this for people like me. I want them to see that they can reach out and do something. They can put their mind to something and achieve it.
Mac Bane: I know the fans are starting to embrace you. Just listen to that result. Revel in the glory of a job well done. You are creating an emotion in the APW fan base. You inspire me to do better, brother. Just wanted you to know that.
This surreal moment shakes Buckson to his core. His idol and brother just said that he admired HIM. His glory isn’t wins and losses…his glory will be setting an example. He wants to be a positive influence. His glory will be making those around him better.
Buckson Gooch: I’ll give 100%, Mac but...
Mac Bane: No buts, you give your best and that is all that we can expect...and your best is a lot better than you think.
Buck smiles at Bane and brings down the axe and splinters the wood as the camera fades out.
