The supershow pay-per-view weekend is in the books. I managed to come away with an impressive victory in one showing, and a bitter defeat in the other. I’m a champion as a result… but I can’t say that I’m satisfied with the end result.
I think about the events on those two days… mainly I focus on the Tag title match. I have the ‘what if’ scenarios in my head. They’ve been there since I got to see the replay. If only Kane and Evans had stayed out of our match, Aubrey and I probably would be the Tag Team champions right now. I find it hard to imagine that Deruty or Hopkins would have been able to work together long enough to beat the both of us in the tail end of that match, nor would one of them alone have posed a serious threat.
I have to wonder if the interference against us was sort of a poetic justice based on Aubrey’s actions with Bailey after Callahan got involved. Karma works in odd ways… Hopkins overcame the same handicap that I could not on that night. So, I will say kudos to the new Tag Team champions. You earned the victory in the end. M&M will be looking to change that at our very next opportunity though. I know you’ll be watching us this week from ringside, taking notes.
But for M&M, we’re looking to deal with a rather nagging problem that has been plaguing us: Inferiority personified and Christian Kane. These two have attacked us a few times as a unit when Aubrey and I have been apart. They’ve made their attempts to inflict injury. They’re doing the dirty work of mom and dad on Meltdown… but they aren’t succeeding as well as they expect.
They try week after week, raising the bar each time. They inflicted some lasting damage on Aubrey at the supershow. Aubrey has exacted some prior retribution on Evans, and I’ve put her down in the ring when it mattered. This week, we have a chance to beat them where it matters. Evans is good at talking and striking from behind, but not much else. Kane has a bit of a reputation, and personal grudges aside, I’m curious to see what the ‘Sensation’ can do.
I can’t say the same for Aubrey, but I’m not looking to settle my grudges in this match. I’m looking to repeat my last match, leaving Evans on her back and I’m going to test Kane. He was tough with a chair from behind. I want to see how well he stacks up face to face. I’m not a champion here in APW because I can’t compete with the best around. I’m always ready to fight and I’m bringing one on Monday.
Friday, January 4th…
We open to a shot of a yard full of snow. As the camera lens pulls back, we make out that the person filming is on the interior side of a window, gazing out at the heavy snowfall. The camera turns around, and we miss some of the details of the room, until the camera focuses on Logan Alexander sitting at a table presumably in his home dining room. The room is painted green, with some landscape pictures hanging on them, has a hardwood floor and a well-made wooden table and matching chairs in the middle. The camera moves over to Logan. He’s currently drawing a quick sketch in a book. The page is covered with similar sketches of championship belts, all of them with ‘North American Championship’ scribbled on them somewhere.
Surprised to still be champion?
A little.
Logan looks up at the camera, smiling slightly.
I was hoping to have one title after back-to-back title matches. But I’m disappointed Aubrey and I aren’t tag champs.
You know that’s the way things go.
He nods slightly.
Sometimes, but Evans and Kane are going to have a lot to answer for. They keep attacking Aubrey. They injured her and then came after her again the following night. It’s at the point that I’m going to do something about it, consequences be damned.
He glares at the camera
The GM’s were up in arms because I DDT’ed Sienna. They really won’t like what I do to their two go-fer’s if this keeps up.
Are you really thinking of taking things that far?
It seems to be the only thing people around here will respect is violence. I’ve kept my hands clean thus far, but I’ve got to draw a line somewhere.
Think that’ll happen this week?
He lets out a breath and glances aside.
Maybe… I can be pretty sure that if I make any move against Kane or Evans before our match, mom and dad will be after me. I could take it all out on them during our match, but I’d rather not get carried away. Don’t want tunnel vision to affect my professional standing and end up kicking myself because I lost a match after getting carried away with getting even. It would be more fitting to beat the two of them cleanly and fairly. Show them that they don’t compare. That the only way they have any sort of chance is to come after us with weapons or in greater numbers.
Sounds like professional intimidation.
He snorts softly.
Evans is already there. She’s been there since she got here. She’s trying to one-up Aubrey outside the ring because she can’t hold a candle to her in one. Aubrey’s beaten big name competitors during her time here. She’s been champion. She came within a moment of being World champion. What has Evans done other than hang off of Kash?
At the supershow she had a chance to prove herself and she got beaten, just like I said. Her run of perfection ended with a loss to me because I’m not a marginal talent like everyone else she’s faced. When she faced a real challenge, she collapsed. I believe that she considered me ‘lost’ without Aubrey at my side, yet I found victory without her.
Evans was put down at the supershow by Amy Zing, the same person I pinned to end that match. Evans didn’t even come close to beating me. Now, she has to beat myself and Aubrey. Presuming that Evans was right about me being lost without Aubrey, how can she believe she’ll have any chance of beating us together? She couldn’t beat me alone.
He pauses a few moments in consideration
Kane on the other hand… He might be made of stronger stuff, or so his reputation says. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he’ll be capable of carrying his deadweight partner to a win this week. Maybe he’ll be that good. Either way, I’ll be preparing for him like he could do that.
You think he’ll be on that level?
Logan shrugs.
Its better that I assume he is and be disappointed, rather that believe the opposite and end up being surprised. I’m not like the majority of my opponents who underestimate their opposition and then get humiliated by them.
Kane was smart enough to come after me from behind with a chair, although he wasn’t smart enough to finish the job. He was smart enough to go after Aubrey with help, but again all he did was make her mad. He’s willing to do whatever it takes, but so am I, and I’ve already got victories over many of the best competitors here on Meltdown. Kane’s still an unknown in that regard. He’s had one match and he won, but now he’s being put in the deep end of the pool. Now he’s going to have to work for the win against two rising stars in APW.
We share some of the same in ring style, but he’s more showman and I’m more methodical. I can handle that and Aubrey can match that. We’re going to have to see how much he really wants it though.
You think he doesn’t want it as much as you and Aubrey?
Maybe he does, but he’s got potentially crippling personal problems as well, but I’m hoping he comes at his best. I want someone other than my partner to try and outperform. I want to see if he lives up to his moniker. I’ve faced people claiming to be perfect, or sensational, or phenomenal. Thus far only the phenom has lived up to the hype. I want Kane to prove that he’s a Canadian Sensation.
He smirks up at the camera.
What better place than in Canada against another Canadian? A fellow Torontonian.
You’re looking forward to this aren’t you?
Damn right I am. I’ve had some of my best matches with people from Toronto. I don’t expect this one to be any different. I’ll gladly fight and beat Evans, but I’m more interested in facing Kane. I really hope he brings his best.
Logan turns his attention away from the camera. The scene then fades out.
Sunday, January 6th…
We open inside a hotel room, presumably in Winnipeg. A camera is focused on Logan as he finishes dialling a number into the room's phone and then activates the speaker, as he settles into the chair next to it. Soon, there is a click to indicate that the phone had been picked up, before a soft and familiar voice follows.
Hello?
Hello partner. Just wanted you to know I was checked in.
Who-- OH, Logan! Thank God, ha. I should be back at the hotel in an hour or so. Jesus... there's so much we need to talk about. Can we like... just... fucking kill Kaylyn and Christian tomorrow and be done with it? We'll bring crowbars or something. It'll be great.
Logan chuckles softly.
I'll consider it... but feel free to bring whatever you want to the party. Mom and dad will be on me if I go that far, but there's no reason you can't have some fun.
Haha, how do Sienna and Duvall feel about their new nicknames?
I'm sure they'll be less than amused, but that's no surprise.
There is a slight sigh.
We need to hurt them, Logan. You can't keep going through... whatever this cycle of bullshit is that they're putting you through. We need to hurt Kaylyn.
Pause.
And Christian.
We don't have to, Aubrey. That's what sets us apart. We don't have to cross that line. They need to because they can't cut it otherwise. We beat them in the ring cleanly and we’ll cement that fact.
There are a few more silent seconds.
I don't see why we can't do both. Fuck them.
Don't worry. There is a time and place for that sort of thing. We should keep level heads between the bells. The last thing we want is to give them even the slightest bragging rights to any victory. You know how quickly mom and dad would have us DQ'ed for the slightest infraction.
Yeah... yeah. I guess...
It's obvious through Parker's tone how unconvinced she is at Logan's words.
I know you want to get even. I still carry that feeling towards a couple of people for things that have been done to me. We can beat the heck out of Evans and Kane during the match, but let’s keep it within the realm of a wrestling match. If you want to make them scream as you work over a body part, that's fine. That's part of wrestling. That's clean. Let's show them our best before we decide to go down to their level.
She draws a deep breath.
...Alright. I'll see you soon.
We'll discuss this further. Perhaps when I'm not recording all the details.
...Alright.
Sounding disappointed, she hangs up. Logan looks at the phone then reaches over and ends the call. He shakes his head slightly.
This has the makings of being a rough night…
He looks the camera, then stands and walks over to it. The scene fades to black.
