Depeche Mode's “Spacewalker” plays as the words FIRST CONTACT flash across the starry background. The video transitions to Biggs standing at the City Centre in Victoria Square, Birmingham, England. He has on a dark blue overcoat, and is dressed warmly. People mill about the square, going about their daily activities, and several tourists walk in and out of frame, taking pictures of the famous sculpture, The River.
Biggs has his trademark smirk on his face as he begins to speak.
”Ladies and gentlemen, one and all, welcome to Biggs' First Contact! I am here in historic Victoria Square, in Birmingham England. Behind me is a sculpture entitled The River, and I am standing before it for no other reason than I found it's nickname to be hilarious. There's no real significance, there's no symbolism I'm trying to force about my match this week, I just wanted to be able to get away with referring to it as The Floozie in the Jacuzzi on my web show.”
Biggs chuckles a bit before continuing on.
“Now that the self indulgence it out of a the way, I have a lot to talk about this week, and not much time to talk about it, because far too many people are coming up and asking for autographs, so we're going to get right to it. This week, on Overdrive, I find myself involved in a Tag Team Match against Level-One and Evan Envi. That in and of itself is none too surprising, considering Evan and I just fought last week, and Level-One is my opponent for RassleMania IX. What is surprising, though, is who my tag team partner is, namely, Shadow.”
“Now anyone who has followed my career here in APW will know that Shadow and I have a bit of a history. Okay, more than a bit, we had a rather bitter rivalry that lasted for quite a while. When I first came to APW in mid-2009, Shadow was the reigning APW Overdrive Champion. I lost a #1 Contenders match for his belt, and then proceeded to goad and badger him, calling him every despicable name under the sun, taking every cheap shot I could, until he put that belt up against me. When we finally met at Shockwave 2009, I defeated him inside a Steel Cage match to win my first championship here in APW. From there, we went back and forth for the rest of 2009, eventually winning the Feud of the Year award. To say that Shadow and I didn't get along would be an understatement, and for us to assume that we'll just be able to put all that behind us willy-nilly for the sake of our tag team match this week, well, that would be wishful thinking at best.”
“So, in an attempt to show my goodwill towards Shadow, I have invited him today to be a guest on First Contact. Shadow, if you'd please...”
Shadow walks into frame, and he looks none to pleased to be joining Biggs in Victoria Square. Biggs offers his hand out for a handshake, but Shadow just eyes him suspiciously. Biggs puts his hands up a bit and backs away from the big man.
”Fair enough. You don't want to shake hands, I can understand that. I haven't given you much reason over the years to trust me at all.”
“Trust you? I could never trust you Biggs. You screwed me in my return and now I’ve forced to work with you?”
”True. I mean, I consistently attacked you from behind, fought you in a hellacious steel cage match, stole the belt from you after grabbed it in a ladder match, and I set your best friend on fire.”
“But that's all in the past, Shadow, and I am here to tell you today that I'm sorry...”
Shadow is taken aback. He doesn’t seem to trust it.
”I know that simple words won't make up for all the ways that I wronged you over the years, how I looked down on you and considered you an inferior talent towards myself. The fact is, Shadow, that you and I simply have different skill sets, and despite the fact that our tag team days are largely behind the both of us, I still think that for this one night pairing, you and I could be a very effective team.”
”I know what you're trying to do here, Biggs. You and I could never 'click.' Couple that with my hatred of tag team matches and the piss poor teammates I’ve been lumped with you can see why I don’t really care what you have to say.”
”I understand completely, Shadow”
”No, I don’t think you do Biggs. You want me to trust you? What makes you think I can? What hop in the family trickster pop on over to Wally World as bestest buds? We’re not friends Biggs.”
“You’re right, There is simply too much history between us to just sweep everything under the rug, but whether you like it or not, the fact is, that on Thursday night, you and I are teaming up to take on Evan Envi and Level-One. These are two of the top hombres on the Overdrive Roster, and if we're going to have any hope of victory, we're going to have to find some way to get along. I know that's asking a lot of you, but I'm at least willing to try...”
Biggs extends his hand out again. Shadow still doesn't accept the handshake.
”Fair enough...”
“But the fact remains, Shadow, whether you like it or not, we are partners this week. You bring the strength and size, I'll bring the speed and finesse. Together, we've got all the bases covered.”
”Yeah, covered. Like how my last tag partner covered me? Don't chalk this up to your ego and me just hating you, which I mildly do, mind you. But I'm having a real hard time trusting anyone. So listen up and listen good Biggs. You just watch your ass and I’ll watch mine, you hear me? I've got enough problems dealing with Evan Envi and Level One on this one. I don’t need to have to watch my back for your knife too. I'll do this job. I'll do the job because Johnny Diamond booked me in it. But when it's over, it doesn't change anything between us.”
”I've changed, Shadow. I'm still changing. Even with all of my jerkish ways, even with all my dirty dealings, I was always honest with you about who I was. Now that I'm actively trying to be a better person, don't you think I'll be even more honest? I give you my word, Shadow, I will not do anything to try to jeopardize our team or 'screw you over' or anything of that nature! You have my word!”
"Actions speak louder than words."
Shadow gives Biggs a sour, somber look. He slowly shakes his head.
"And I just don't trust you to act."
Biggs is beginning to look a bit exasperated by this point. Shadow's lack of trust is weighing heavy. Rather than sticking his hand out for a handshake, Biggs extends both arms outwards to his side, and motions for Shadow to give him a hug.
”Let's just hug it out man!”
Shadow just glares at Biggs, showing no emotion whatsoever.
”Hug it out, man! Hug it out! C'mon!”
Biggs motions with his hands once more, and Shadow has finally had enough of it. Still shaking his head, the big man turns and walks away. Biggs yells after him.
”I take that as a no for the hug! Still, I'm looking forward to teaming with you, man!”
Biggs turns towards the camera to speak.
”Well, that didn't go as well as I would have hoped, but the fact is, I have no reason to screw Shadow over this week. Absolutely none. As far as I'm concerned, all of our issues, all of our beef is in the past. I don't expect us to be best of friends, heck, I don't expect him to like me, but I will show him that he can trust me in that ring!”
“But if Shadow doesn't come around, the bottom line is that we will be in for one heck of fight this Thursday, as we take on Level-One and Evan Envi.”
“Evan, last week, you got me. Plain and simple, you got your win over me. Congratulations, you earned it. Sure, I had my foot on the rope, and the ref didn't see it, nor did he see the obvious shift in your weight that it would take to kick my foot off the rope, but hey, you got the win! My challenge to you, Evan, is simple. Follow it up! Because you see, Evan, greatness isn't a one time thing! You want to be respected, you want to move up the card, you have to earn it each and every night!”
“Last week was a step in the right direction Evan, but it's just that, one step! The path to legendary status here in APW is not a short journey, it is long, it is arduous, it will take a whole heck of a lot more than one victory over me to cement your legacy! Now believe me, I think you're fully capable of this, Evan, I don't doubt your ability, I don't doubt your skill. What I doubt is your heart.”
“If there's one thing about you Evan that stands out, it's the fact that you never blame yourself for your short comings. You never take responsibility for yourself, you always shift the blame to somebody else! It's my fault, apparently, that you weren't entered into the Elimination Chamber Match, even though it was completely President Jeff's decision who was placed in that match and who wasn't!”
“It's not your fault that you're stuck in the Xtreme Division, even though you keep picking fights with A.C. Smith.”
“It's not your fault that you aren't a bigger star, its the fact that you haven't been given any opportunities.”
“All of these excuses, all of this whining, Evan, it's unbecoming of you! It's been said many times that if you want to succeed in this business, you have to make your own opportunities! You have to do whatever it takes to get noticed, you have to give the higher ups no choice other than to give you the shots you think you deserve! Just look back to my feud with Shadow over the Overdrive Championship a few years back. The fact of the matter was that management wasn't giving me a shot at his title, Shadow himself wasn't giving me a shot at the title, so I took matters into my own hands. I strung together multiple victories in a row, I continually badgered Shadow, berating him and attacking him, until he had no choice but to give me what I wanted, a shot at the Overdrive Championship.”
“Now I'm not condoning guerrilla tactics, but what I'm saying is that you cannot just sit on the sidelines and play the victim. You can't continually wallow in your little pity party. If you want to be a Mega Star in APW, you have to make it happen.”
“Just look at the example of your tag team partner, Evan, look at Level-One. All throughout his career, Level-One has made it a habit of going into places and winning big right off the bat! He first entered APW in the Survive & Conquer match a few years back, won the whole darn thing, and headlined RassleMania mere months into his APW career! Sure, he was already a True Experts Champion by this point, but the fact is that Level-One made an impact. He didn't whine and complain, he just did his job, and he did it well.”
“And yes, I know that nowadays, Level-One doesn't command nearly as much respect as he did back in the day, but that's not due to any decreasing skill or talent on his part, it's simply because he's become a whore!”
Biggs smirks once more.
”I know that at the beginning of this show, I said there wasn't really any reason for me to be standing in front of this statue, The River, but now that I think about it, Lester, you really have a lot in common with the Floozie in the Jacuzzi!”
“This whole #CelebrityStatus thing is you being a fame whore, plain and simple. You aren't content with being one of the greatest wrestlers this generation has ever seen, you're not happy being a sure-fire first ballot Hall of Famer, no, you want to hobnob with C and D-List Celebrities, hoping that their fame, whatever little they have, will rub off on you! You want to not only be a wrestling star, but the ever-so-rare cross-over star!”
“I'll tell you this right now, Lester, if you want to become famous in that way, go make a movie! Not the kind your friend Kim Kardashian makes, because that's a whole 'nother type of whoring, but don't just strut around like you're a celebrity without actually doing something that, y'know, makes you an actual celebrity.”
“Believe me, Lester, I love wrestling. I know that it's made you and me household names amongst wrestling fans, but let's be honest here, the business is not in the same place that it was in the late nineties. You won't get the mainstream appeal you hope to get just by wrestling alone. Also, the fact that you're a huge jerk will hurt you as well, but my point is this, Lester, you are a wrestler, not some big shot in Hollywood, no matter how much you try to delude yourself. So quit embarrassing yourself, quit embarrassing APW with your fame whoring behavior, and do what you were intended to do, and that is wrestle!”
“Granted, even if Shadow and I don't get on the same page, there's still the question as to whether the two of you will be able to work together. After all, Lester, you don't have that great a track record of keeping your alliances, and Evan, you're probably just too darn jealous of Level-One to even consider working with him!”
“Tomorrow night, we're in for a battle, all four of us! On one side, you have the odd couple of Shadow and myself. On the other, you have a whiner and a delusional jerk. But despite all the drama, despite all the mistrust that will surely be flying around in this match, it's going to be one heck of a fight!”
“In fact, I'd go as far as to say it's going to be OUT OF THIS WORLD!”
First Contact fades to black with Biggs turning around to look at The River one more time, chuckling to himself as he does so.
Biggs has his trademark smirk on his face as he begins to speak.
”Ladies and gentlemen, one and all, welcome to Biggs' First Contact! I am here in historic Victoria Square, in Birmingham England.
