Recently
The scene opens up inside Royal University Hospital, the same hospital in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan where Uncle Charlie is staying. Mannie just finished touting the APW Universe and Amy Zing, Just before taking a seat and spending sometime with his Uncle Charlie before his flight to Japan. Mannie was catching a flight out there to visit former RSM member JR Kingston, but with all things considered Mannie has decided not go so he can instead be with his Uncle.
“It wasn’t supposed to be like this. We were supposed to take the wrestling world by storm. You know Uncle Charlie, if I could trade places with you I would. I owe you everything that been positive in my life, when I got arrested and was sent to that juvenile center you somehow got me off with a lighter sentence. I could never and I can’t ever repay you for that. You have been the light in the tunnel of my life forever and right now things are looking so dim and dark. I need to pull through this Uncle Charlie, I need you.”
“I know I don’t always tell you that but I really do. You can’t let this stop you; you have too many things we haven’t done yet. You hear me damn it? You not done yet, I need my Uncle.
Mannie begins to shed tears because watching his Uncle Charlie stuck in pain is alot to bear, So he tries to take to his mind off it by remembering the good times
“You know I remember the first thing you told me when I got out, I can remember it like it was yesterday.”
Flashback
The scene opens outside the gates of the Beaumont Juvenile Correctional Center, with Young Mannie being escorted to the outside road by guards. Mannie has just finished his 1 year sentence, after committing the following crimes…2 Counts of B&E, 1 count of Grand Theft Auto. Mannie seems to be ecstatic as it would’ve been a harsher punishment but his Uncle Charlie pulled a few strings, Mannie is being uncuffed and released to his Uncle Charlie who is already standing outside leaning on his car. Uncle Charlie doesn’t find this a time to celebrate or Mannie’s smirk amusing as he quickly cuts into him.
“I don’t get why you laughing, This shit ain’t funny man. I ain’t going to keep bailing you out, every time you mess up. Now I love you but I can’t put myself through that, So you can make a choice. You can go home with me and get your shit together or rot your ass in a prison somewhere, but what I won’t do is be there. So it’s your choice Life or Death!”
“How the hell are you going to tell me what to do when you’re a pimp?”
“Boy you must have lost your damn mind? Who do you think you’re talking to you? I will knock your ass out right in front of those guards and I won’t think twice about it, and I bet they won’t stop me. I guess you think you’re grown now, you did a little time in juve and now you’re a man hunh?"
“Yeah I am a man”
“Nah you ain’t a man, See a man owns up to his responsibilities. A man take his punishment and learns from it, See a man ain’t a little boy talking out his ass because he thinks 1 year of boarding school made him one. See a real man who knows if he is doing wrong, he will do whatever it takes to change his self. Even if his smart-ass nephew doesn’t appreciate it.
Uncle Charlie throws up his hands while getting back inside of his car, as he waits for Mannie to make his choice. Mannie looks back and forth between the center and his Uncle’s car as ponders, He finally decides to go home with his Uncle as he gets inside the car. As soon as Mannie gets inside he is backhanded by his Uncle Charlie and screams in agony
“What the Fuck…What was that for?”
“For making me wait, And because I love you. But understand, if you ever disrespect me again I will knock your ass into the next century. You hear me? Do I have to smack you again?”
“Nah I got it, Damn.”
“Alright let’s go I got get back to this money and you’re going to get dropped off at this GED class.”
“GED Class?”
“Yeah you ain’t going to end like me, doing this for a living. So I don’t want to hear no more lip about it, end of discussion.”
“Aight”
Mannie snaps out the flashback due to his Uncle Charlie waking up, Mannie calls for a nurse. A nurse arrives as Mannie looks relived that his Uncle has awoken. The scene fades as Mannie changes his ticket to Japan, to a ticket to San Francisco.
The scene opens San Francisco, California as “The Main Attraction” Young Mannie is outside in the pool area of his hotel room. Mannie seems distant as there are people towel lounging and kids running around, He simply passes through as if he’s not even visible to the other people. Mannie pauses and stares at a little boy standing on the diving board, it seem the boy is scared to dive as the other kids are getting restless behind him waiting. Mannie notices how frighten the young boy is and he tells the other kids to stop pressuring him. Mannie helps the boy off the board as he sends back to his mother, who consoles him and thanks Mannie. Mannie says “Your Welcome” as he ponders about the incident as he makes a turn to the camera.
“You know something, I’m not a super hero but I am a man who cares about the future. A man who knows that in order of making sure things happen the right way, you have to sometimes “Step in”. See the reason behind the problems in my life is from the lack of “Stepping Up and Stepping In”.”
“See I know it’s not ringing a bell or making sense right now, I will elaborate on it some more. See the thing you know or if didn’t know about me is, I’ve pretty much been on the losing side of just about every battle in my life. It’s been like that since as long I can remember, It’s like every time I grow or make progress something sets me back. See this is bigger than my wrestling career, this is a major issue for me period. I’m not even in the prime of my life, let alone my career. Seriously It hurts knowing that every time you try to set your mind on something It will end up failing anyway. The disappointment I have encountered along the way has made me a stronger person but what good is that if I’m not being effective?”
“You know ever since that night in November, I have been the most effective I ever been in my life! Nothing I did before that night, made me feel as good as I did getting suspended. Before that night all I ever did was fill my empty soul with false hopes and marijuana, But after that night I saw the future…I saw my future.”
“Don’t worry it’s all about to make sense in a second”
“See let’s rewind things shall we. You know when I was suspended a while back, I had a lot of time to think about my future. I didn’t know whether to retire or to join another promotion, I really couldn’t decide because after returning back to APW in the last 2 quarters of the year; I felt useless, unappreciated, and most importantly a loser. See the night of November 19th 2012 will forever be implanted in my memory and life. See that night I was on the brink of insanity, while you Amy Zing were on the brink of Megastardom. You had a great appearance in the first APW Japanese battle royal and then you had impressive matches following that, But on top of that…You were being held up by the admiration of these fans. See the fans had got behind you from the get go, They ate it up, A young aspiring female from overseas who wants to achieve the American dream. I know right now Amy these people seem to be in love with you but you can’t be that naïve?”
“These people will leave you as soon as you need them the most, See the night of November 19th 2012 will live with me because of the fans. The fans turned there backs on me that night, That night I needed them to support me in my match against Jason Kash. That night when I lost against Jason Kash they left me just like that, That night they turned they’re backs to me. I was dealing with so much during that time, After couple of weeks before then I lost my girlfriend Shanell after she was violently attacked, I lost a match that I shouldn’t had to wrestle in the first place for a tag title tournament. But that night I lost a lot more than a match to Jason Kash…I lost my mind and any of the love of those so called fans had for me. They didn’t cheer for me, they didn’t boo Jason Kash. They ended up cheering and applauding him as he left the ring, But when I was ready to leave they were silent. Those people who I gave the best matches and performances everything for didn’t think one ounce to chant my name. These people aren’t worth anything, They will use you Amy just like they used me. You’re only as good to them for as long you keep their interest. They only want the flavor of the month and don’t worry soon enough when the next hyped wrestler comes through, you will be forgotten as well.”
“All I’m trying to say is that I know these people Amy, They are connivers ready to fest on you after you give them everything you got left. They aren’t going to be there for you when you fail Amy, and all I am trying do is save you the same heartache and pain. Amy you don’t want to feel the things I felt and you don’t want to be where I was that night. I just want to help you, That’s all. The night we met and you got offended, I want to apologize because all my Uncle Charlie was trying to do was give you a way out. Now if it would’ve been my choice, I would’ve gave you a better a career choice but it seems to me that you don’t want my help. It seems all you want to do is make the same biggest mistake I ever did and that was when i trusted those people.”
“Amy you are going to realize that I’m doing this for the both of us, I’m helping you dodge the pothole. These people are a crutch and trust me they will let you fall, All you have to do is leave before it’s too late. Wrestling is not for someone like you, See because you tend don’t listen and you don’t take advice very well. See that’s your problem Amy, you don’t know when to back down.”
“You have to see where It all comes together, I am the future of APW and it’s as clear as day to see if APW is going to be around to hone “The Main Attraction. They will have to stop signing rookies like you Amy who tend to flake when they’re placed under the slightest bit of strain. I know you Amy better than yourself, Because I use to be you. I use to care what these people thought about me but not anymore and I’m better off for it. All you got to do is follow the same path, I want you be in the “APW of tomorrow” but I can’t see that happening. See the only way you will survive in the “APW of tomorrow” is by listening to my advice but I know you won’t.”
“The only way you will listen is if I interject myself much like I did earlier when the little boy was going foolishly dive off high board, See I have to be the voice of reason to your denial of trying to stay in this APW. This APW is going nowhere but I will be the one who will save it, I will be the “Face” of this APW and I will lead the company to the promise land. See in the “APW of tomorrow” there won’t be any wrestlers who can’t hang or handle the spotlight. There will only be room for the most talented and gifted, No longer will APW rely on flakes, backyard wrestling matches, or eye candy. See in the APW they’re will only the elite and among those elite is a spot waiting for you Amy, do you want it? I know you do because you’re different.”
“But Niobe Martin, Now that’s a lost cause who will never be anything but a flake and just another pretty face who wants attention and TV time. She wants to parade around and not even put the time to work on her craft, She is wasting my time and APW’s. She gives half-ass performances and it shows every Monday, Niobe be successful because simply she is “Born to Lose” but were different. We are “Born to Lose but Built to Win” Niobe soon you will just fade from everyone’s memory but I won’t, Because this company needs “The Main Attraction”.”
“Now your next question you must be asking yourself, What makes me think I know so much about what APW needs and how it will turn out right?”
“Well now while these fans are the vein of my existence, and as much I wanted to leave during my suspension…I didn’t. Why? Because I know this company needed to be changed, I knew these people needed to be changed, and I knew the Meltdown lockeroom was the first place I needed to start. The Meltdown lockeroom has a lot of potential but buried on top of the potential are flakes, and it’s my job to remove them from my company. APW needed someone to pick the slack that no one else wanted to take up, APW needed a leader and that man is me. I will save APW for its own self destruction. You might as well nickname “The John Connor of APW” because I will be one who will save it. But for that too happen I need someone to be willing to make the sacrifice of being my first project. My first project is molding the current rookie talent of APW into the future Megastars of tomorrow.”
“See Amy you were chosen as my first project because of your fortitude and perseverance while it’s cute now, It won’t last.” You have to realize that it takes more than a smile and a few pictures with some kids to be a pro-wrestler in United States. See the biggest difference between us is one fact. I have longevity and you don’t. I know what it takes to last in APW and what it takes to stay after disappointment and disappointment. Now you haven’t suffered the things I been through but you go around like you have the idea, But you don’t Amy! You can’t understand that unless you are taught a lesson, Now while you don’t want to listen and avoid the consequences. I will make your listen and by god you will learn. Amy I don’t want to hurt you but I will, I don’t want humiliate you but I will, It doesn’t matter what it takes, as long I get it through to you. The only thing you have to worry about now is me teaching you that you can’t last in this APW. You have to be humbled Amy or otherwise you won’t last.”
“But don’t think while I trying to help you that I won’t punish you. I haven’t forgotten and I will never forget. I can simply just teach a lesson, I have to make you the prime example to the rest of APW roster. I am not going anywhere and I refuse to let APW crumble and It won’t as long I keep the future in check, But when it comes to us…See we are past that stage of wins and losses, and we can’t go back especially after what happened to Uncle Charlie. See now not only am I going to embarrass you with my superior athleticism but I’m going to make your living a live car wreck that everyone will get to be a witness of. It’s going to be a messy ride Ms.Zing and I hope you brought every amount of the perseverance that love to shine, I just want you to do one thing. Pay close attention to the people cheering you on because once I get the best of you, they will show they’re true shelves. You will see and feel the heartache and pain I went through first hand, but only then...Will the pain and heartaches go away, only then will I say the proverbial words of “I Told You So”. So maybe just maybe after all that, there will be a spot for you in the new APW. But as of right now there isn’t so I will see you soon Amy, But let’s just say not soon enough.”
Scene fades as “The Main Attraction” blows a kiss at Amy Zing while winking, Mannie proceeds to walk back to the lobby but not before pushing the same little boy who was scared to dive before, right into the deep-end of the pool.
