We open with the camera inside a decently lit, mostly bare grey coloured room. The camera is focused on Logan Alexander, dressed in a white shirt, blue jeans and light grey socks, sitting on the left side of the room in a white leather chair. He’s leaned forward with his head in his hands.
Look, I did everything I could last week. It was just too much to overcome for once. You had Mannie and Zing in the ring. Charlie and Quartermain were outside helping Mannie. Then Kaylyn showed up with a crowbar and went after everyone, except Mannie and his entourage.
He lifts his head, looking ahead.
What did you expect me to do?
You should have done the right thing.
The camera pans to the right. Showing Logan, dressed in a red shirt, black jeans and black socks, sitting in a matching black leather chair, staring the other way. The camera shifts between them as they talk.
I DID do the right thing! I fought fairly and honourably…
And YOU lost!
The first one falls silent as the second pressed on.
You should have stepped aside and let me handle things. This isn’t a game where playing nice gets rewarded. Things have been done your way since all of this started. Yes, you won the championship. Yes, you defended it well. But last week, you showed your limitations. You couldn’t do what NEEDED to be done.
I wouldn’t have hesitated. I could’ve taken control in that fight and I would’ve put every last one of them down, because that’s what I do. You sit there, trying to moralize every decision, and dragging your feet when you have to make the tough calls.
The second glares at his counterpart.
Last week you had to make a decision in the ring… and the decision you made resulted in the loss of the North American championship. You preferred to die on the altar of your morals rather than survive.
The first shakes his head.
What is the point of winning if you have to sacrifice what you stand for to do so?
Look back over the last three months. While you’ve stood up for your beliefs and for doing the right thing, your enemies have multiplied. They’ve grown more and more ruthless. So really… what has your approach accomplished? An eleven week title reign that ended before it should’ve?
You might fancy yourself a hero, but being a hero isn’t always enough.
The second raises his hand and clenches it into a fist.
Some people only understand violence. You may not agree with the implications of that… but it’s time to stop pulling punches. I’m going to start making people pay for crossing me… in or out of the ring. If they want a fight, I’m going to give it to them on their own terms. People thought you were dangerous. Wait until they see how bad it is my way.
The first lowers his head disappointedly, staring at the floor.
And so what becomes of what I’ve done so far? The people look to me as a hero, an example to follow. Are you really ready to throw all of that away?
I didn’t come back here intending to be the hero. I don’t cling to it the way you do. It was a fantasy. I’m here to take care of business however it needs to be done. You’ll have your time and place again, but not right now. Get used to it.
The second one stands and walks out past the camera. The first remains sitting there dejectedly. The scene fades out.
I’m disappointed. Point blank that’s my reaction to last week’s results. I should’ve come out stronger. I should’ve been better prepared for what was coming.
Sometimes… you’re your own worst enemy.
I knew I was in for a hard fight. I was ready for it. I even had that match won. I had Amy Zing beaten and pinned. I didn’t feel her kick out when the lights turned out during the match. She might say different, but I can only say what I experienced there.
I shouldn’t be surprised by what followed… but the sheer audacity of some people. I swear it seems that every single week, someone else has to come by and stick their nose into my business. They just can’t leave things well enough alone. They always figure that they’ve got to have the last word.
Kaylyn James Evans got what she deserved at the hands of my partner one month ago. She broke Aubrey’s arm and apparently figured it would just end there. That retribution would not be coming. I had hoped that Evans might have gotten the hint at that point. That some acts would not be tolerated. That if she decided to come after us, we’d return the favour. If she hurt one of us, we’d do the same to her.
Last week… she proved that she had learned nothing.
Last week… she helped cost me the North American championship.
But… for all that she has done, I simply have to say… thank you.
It’s an unexpected and unlikely sentiment I’m sure, but you have done me a great service. You have removed a burden from my shoulders that I hadn’t entirely noticed I was carrying. Not the title of course. I could have carried that indefinitely with little trouble because I wanted it.
No, the burden you took from me is the burden of being the representative for all the fans that disapprove of how things are done on Meltdown, where people lacking ability have to resort to backstage plotting and cowardly tactics in order to challenge the real stars that are present. I felt compelled to stand for something better than what I had to stand against.
Now though… I’m free to play the game that everyone feels so inclined to make me a part of.
And starting this week, I will show just how adept of a player I am.
The next scene opens with Logan sitting on the recliner in his living room late one night. He broods quietly, one hand resting against the side of his face, as the camera approaches him from the side. Moving to another piece of furniture the cameraperson sits down, continuing to observe Logan.
It looks as though you have a handicap match this week.
He glances towards the camera, and lowers his hand, before crossing his arms in front of himself.
I noticed… It’s definitely not a fair one.
Yes, hence the name ‘handicap’.
He snorts disinterestedly.
Just look at who’s in this match. Myself and Niobe Martin, a person who seems keen on taking my place as chief agitator, facing off against Robina Hood, Anthony Washington and no one of consequence.
Uh huh… Think you might be disregarding Kaylyn Evans a bit?
He snorts dismissively this time.
Until she washes the yellow streak off her back, grows a spine, and improves immensely in the ring she’ll continue to be the non-factor she’s been since she first decided to compete with the Meltdown elite. This match is unfair… but only to my opponents. There need to be at least two more before it resembles an equal fight.
Logan looks at the camera, with a disproving scowl.
Evans and Hood only have success attacking their opponents from behind. Hood will probably try to get the jump on Niobe again, because that’s generally what she does… every time they cross paths. She definitely seems like one of the GM’s stooges because she’s always trying to do their dirty work. I didn’t forget that she attacked me at Survive and Conquer. Seeing as this may be the only time I’ll get to face her, I’m going to demonstrate to her exactly why that was a poor decision to make.
Like Evans, she’s only ever learned how to hide behind the GM’s and hope that they will protect her. I don’t fear the GM’s or their authority. They haven’t dared to try and make any sort of move against me directly and now it’s no longer an option. So… in the ring where it’s nice and legal, I’m going to make an example of one of their prized competitors, because I can and because there’s no one here who can stop me from doing so. And if anyone does try to stop me, I’ll simply add their name to the end of my list. There are only ten people on there at the moment.
He smirks slightly, but there’s no humour in the expression.
Evans is going to get hers at some point during Meltdown. I’m going to put her in her place and let her know exactly what she’s going to be in for so long as she decides she’s going to get involved where she doesn’t belong. It won’t matter whether she’s got the support of the GM’s and if Kane, Kash, or whoever else are helping her. The end result will be the same. I’ll stand victorious and she will either be humbled after I beat her in the ring or carted out on a stretcher when I just beat her wherever.
I’m sick of people thinking that they can just take liberties against me without consequence. I’ve chosen not to fight back in kind after being hit with chairs, crowbars, canes, and championships. That ends now and I’ll start dealing with it tomorrow night. People looking for a shortcut to success and come at me from behind or bring weapons into play are going to start finding out how much longer and more difficult that route is.
There is a darker more malicious look in his face as he speaks, but it disappears after a few moments once he finishes speaking.
The only one left out of this trio is Anthony Washington. He’s the future. So he sees what’s coming or something stupid like that. Just listen to him talk and you’ll get what I mean. I’ll give him credit for the strong start he’s had thus far. He’s been undefeated in competition up until this point. Washington needs to do one thing though before he steps into this match. The Future needs to take note of the past. I have set foot in the ring with no fewer than six undefeated competitors in my time in APW. None of them walked out of those matches undefeated. What makes you different Washington?
The simple answer is nothing. It does not matter to me have big, strong, or talented you are. It doesn’t matter how many matches you’ve won or how many titles you’ve held. You are in my way this week and if you know what’s good for you, you’re going to stay out of my way. Otherwise I’m going to do what I do best. I’ll put you down and make sure that you don’t get back up. If you don’t believe me, speak to your partner Evans before the match. I’ve beaten her twice with little trouble and that was before she gave me extra motivation to do so.
He sits back in his chair, looking ahead irritably. He then glances to the camera.
I’m prepared to wrestle and prepared to fight before, during, and after my match. I don’t care what the rules are or if there are any at all. My job is quite simply ‘search and destroy’ this week, and you three are my targets. You’ll get no quarter from me. I will do what I have to with no remorse for the consequences. If you want no part of it, I suggest that you be somewhere else when I get to the ring… otherwise prepare yourselves for the worst night of your APW careers.
He watches the camera for a few moments.
We’re done. Go.
The scene fades to black.
Look, I did everything I could last week. It was just too much to overcome for once. You had Mannie and Zing in the ring. Charlie and Quartermain were outside helping Mannie. Then Kaylyn showed up with a crowbar and went after everyone, except Mannie and his entourage.
