2/14 Overdrive Feedback

Thanks to TMarv, Envi, Gooch and Biggs for writing matches this week. A massive pat on the back for all four of you. Envi stepped up big at the last minute to help finish some stuff...and he certainly deserves MVP for tonight's show.

Thanks to Kurt Noble, Chris Hart, Shadow, Biggs, Level-One, Terry Marvin, Evan Envi, Delikado, A.C. Smith, Shadow, Mark Mania and C.J. Gates for writing segments.

The show is out and it's a long one this week. There were far too many segments but I tried my best to get them together as best as possible and in the order people requested. There are a few coding errors that I'll go back and fix when possible.

I'm wanting to have a better OOC presence and figured a good way to start was actually giving feedback as I read the card. So, remember, I'm not reading it first and then writing. I don't have cable, so I read prowrestling.net's results of RAW as it goes. I dig that kind of writing; the typing as it goes.

I'm still new to APW and I may be off on some stuff, but be patient with me, I'm sure I'll get caught up

I hope this is good feedback. I really enjoyed the show. Delikado, Envi, Shadow, Hart, Noble, Gates, TMarv, Level-One, Biggs, Smith, and Lively (sorry if I missed someone)...the characters on Overdrive are so rich. Humbles me to actually be on a show with guys who are this talented.

Now, the feedback:


I love the graphics. Great, great touch. I scanned through those first and really dug them. Then I started reading:


Opening Segment with Noble and Hart: Very well written. I enjoyed the banter that the announcers had during the segment. I dig the violence. The surprise of it being Hart was great and using the cane was awesome.

Shadow Segment: The intro to the segment was very well written. I liked the darker imagery, the candles, the bloody heart and the headshot of Biggs was nice. I liked how it transitioned to the bloody heart instead of just showing it to begin with. The monotone chanting...the bloody palm...the gust of wind...This segment was one of the best "dark" segments I've read in a long time. I loved the imagery that ran throughout the segment. When he said that past two years, it made me (as a new guy) want to know more about their past. Hopefully I'll be able to figure it out as time goes on.

Biggs/Level-One segment: I loved the flashback to last week as well as Biggs attitude towards gaining the briefcase. Who doesn't love the old handcuffs to the briefcase trick? I liked Level-One's anger level. Biggs pointing out the need for an advantage was a great approach and using the briefcase to do so is a very nice tough. Rebel came out at the perfect time and his stipulation about who holds the briefcase is great. Might be fun to get other MegaStars trying to steal it, but having their efforts stopped by Biggs or Level-One. 24/7 Rule is great. The "one man's trash is another man's treasure" line was perfect to end with. Great segment.

Envi/Delikado Segment - The dynamic between Envi and Delikado is great. I got a kick out of Evan asking to be let in and Delikado talking about door etiquette.

Gooch vs. Smith: I wrote this match. I'm a huge fan of A.C. Smith. I hope that showed in the match. I dig his character. I think we both had strong RPs this week. Congrats on the win. I'm looking forward to Lively vs. Smith.

Sindicate Segment - What wasn't to love about this. They were upset about the Billion Dollar Briefcase. I loved the problems that stirred but didn't get over dramatic. Everyone held to their characters perfectly. Some writers would've over done it, this segment was top notch. I hope I'm able to write like that, with that kind of control, one day.

Delikado/West - I was digging the promo and the "cyphening the gas into his pants" line was epic. I was totally tuned in for the rest of it. I need to look back at what's going on here on an older episode. I like the importance that Delikado puts on his match with Mania. Can of soup? Hahaha.

Biggs vs. Shadow Match - I liked that they played into the background. I'd go up and change my thoughts on the segment, but I'm writing as I'm reading. It's good to know some background. I haven't been around that long, so hearing about some of their matches is good stuff. The match was very well written...but I'm not surprised, Biggs wrote it.

Delikado/Mania Segment - Delikado is 150% on this week. This line almost made me burst out laughing "An overly large pimp coat-wearing Delikado jumps from out of frame and spreads his puffy arms wide." I love the back story and Delikado wanting to make amends before the match. Who does that? Mark Mania was right to be cautious. The handbuzzer was out there...the raccoon was hilarious.

Gates segment - Great flashback to what TMarv did last week. Gates explains things from his point of view in a great way. Great example of "Give someone enough rope and they'll hang themselves." Why bust their chops when they can show their true colors on their own? Great at putting heat on TMarv from the "fans." I'm sold on Gates vs. TMarv, this line sealed the deal "And I couldn't be happier, because it will make beating him at Rasslemania that much sweeter. " Great writing. Explained why it happened last week, explained his actions, explained what he's going to do, and why the win will be satisfying. Sort of a "the juice is worth the squeeze" type thing. Great segment.

Delikado/West - "Batlociraptorman" YES! Referencing the can of soup was hilarious. I feel dumb for thinking that this was going to go a different way. Sorry if I've missed this gag before. A Delicopter? Awesome. Who flies off in a helicoper...sorry, Delicopter before a title match?...I'm loving this.

Smith/Lively - Smith stating the obvious was beautiful and the response from Lively was great. It was a nice touch to see Lively lose his brains and attack the locker room door.

Noble - The doctor is of great use here and not overused. Hart coming from the air vent? If only WWE did stuff like I've read so far tonight. I'd watch it every week! The scalpel and the glass were great touches. I dug the fact that when security was trying to break the door down, it seemed Hart knew the end of this was coming and instead of blindly jabbing with a scalpel, he threw Noble into the table and then going back to the carving, but with meaning.

Envi/LeWinter Segment - Evan Envi is a genius. I dig this character. He was a player without being ostentatious. Thanks for the shout out!

Envi vs. TMarv - I don't know why I was so entertained by the Camel Clutch so quickly, but I really was. The exchange of submission moves was well done. The flapjack jaw first on the apron made me cringe. Countout victory was great. Both guys stay strong.

Biggs aftermath - Envi smashing Biggs was sweet, the build to Envi stealing the briefcase was awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!! Giving it back? I can see why, I guess. Great segment!

Noble/Hart segment - Well...that escalated quickly. A bit too much for my taste, but entertaining nonetheless.

Delikado vs. Mania - Envi on the mic? If I were to compare this to WWE, I remember the feeling I got when I saw the clip of the RAW where the talent walked out on Triple H, and he told Punk he was free to say what he wanted on commentary. I was looking forward to this match anyways, this is just icing on the cake. Having Mania take the Last Call to Cuba and fall out of the ring was great, followed by Envi pointing out that it has to get back in the ring. I dug that. Great build for Delikado in his offense. Every segment was spot on with him tonight and Envi's match writing skills are really bringing this episode to a great conclusion. When Delikado climbed under the ring and Evan said that under the ring was "Delikado's turf"...it made me imagine what would be under there if it was...I'm sure it would be epic. THE RACCOON!!!!!! Delikado being scratched up was a nice touch, Envi.

Envi challenges Mania - This summed up the night in a perfect conclusion. Powerful challenge, different from the rest, drives it home with previous actions, but with what seems like an intention that is pure. He wants to destroy/dissect his opponent.


Overall Show - I loved this show! Great flow of matches and segments. Rebel did a great job of piecing this together, keeping segments of the same characters far enough apart to not be overkill. Envi, Biggs, and TMarv were phenomenal in their matching writing. I hope mine came close to the clinic they put on this week. Everyone had a great showing this week. I'm pumped for Rasslemania...I hope I can find someone to tangle with! I want to be a part of this! Great job everyone!

I gave this a read on thursday, I'm gonna reread it after I finish my RP and then give my feedback for OD.

Well, I guess it's my time...

The show was good. I think the only thing that I could say would be that we seem to have a whole ton of segments in it. Which is good, because it shows people are trying to further their feuds, but I wonder if some of them could be made into one segment. Especially on a small show (4 or 5 matches I think it was), it might work to kind of pace things, otherwise the matches get swallowed up within the segments. Or at least that's the feeling I had with it.

Of course, that's not to say that it was a bad too many segments. Every one did something to either sell a match for the night or further a feud/story. Building up for some pretty good matches come Rasslemania, matches that I am definitely looking forward to.

Kudos to the match writers for putting in the work to get the show done. I keep hoping I'll have time to help but each week seems busier then I expect it to be, and the one week (this week) that I thought I had off, I'm pulling overnights at work. But still, nice job to everyone who chipped in this week, and who has chipped in every week.

Congrats to the winners. I know that Overdrive tends to see some of the same matches week to week, but the interesting part is, that we don't seem to have the problem of expecting someone to win. Legitimately, every week anyone can win, thats how our talent is right now. So to those that won this week, it was definitely well earned.

I know there was nothing too constructive here, mainly because the only thing I saw, really, was the amount of segments, though that might be something that will just become the norm. It was still a great show, an awesome read, and a great lead up to Rasslemania.

[The Soul Of Philly]

- Knowing both Hart and Noble, I knew they would make this very personal, but this is another level. Two guys who know so much about each other, to the fact that Hart put Kurt on uneven ground right at the beginning of the show, perfect.

- I've been a fan of Shadow since I've been in here. The base is a big guy, he's a menacing guy. Some could see this as cheesy way to be a scary dark kinda segment, but I loved it and I would disagree with those. I enjoyed the "of all the women" line, it was great. I enjoyed this segment alot.

- Loved the biggs/l1 interaction. It became more than a grudge match with this segment. I know what happens later in the show, so I'll leave the rest of what I have for there.

- Who would have thought that Delikado would be a man of finer door etiquette? Funny little segment

- Great match between AC and Gooch. Good spots, I liked that Lively got involved early and that was it. It was enough to further a feud, but it didn't take away from the match. Gooch came out looking great and AC won, congrats AC on your title retain.

- I loved The Sindicate segment. When a heel group is scrambling, it's always a fun read. I loved that Felipe said he was in charge but took the order from Terry and passed it down to L1. A good segment to sets up what's gonna happen later in the night.

- I love wrestling. I love CatDog. I love when those two thing comes together in a Delikado segment. I, like Gooch, am not too sure about what's going on as far as everything between West and Delikado, but htat didn't stop me from enjoying this segment. I enjoyed "Adele's got nothing on my swag"

- Fantastic match between Biggs and Shadow. I enjoyed the commentary refreshing the audience about the history between the two. It was nicely done and something that should be brought up more between once-upon-a-time rivals. THe match had this feel that the two knew each other. Shadow looked great in the loss and the match flowed great. Congrats to Biggs on the win.

- There are a few people who can pull off total randomness so well in a character and Delikado is that. I really liked this segment between Mark and Delikado. I liked they touched on the past meeting between them, dunno if they did a follow to that back in Novemember or not, but it's nice to recognize. A fucking raccoon though haha.

- Good segment from Gates, but I felt it started a bit wrong. The prior week, Gates the respect for Terry and wished him the best of luck. This week? Pulling a heel move and saying he didn't believe it and just played Terry playing CJ. I think, CJ would have came off as a face better if he admitted to falling for it like everyone else did, connect with the fans and say, just for that, I'm gonna whoop your ass double for that. All that said, and that's the rest of the promo after that part, which is nice, I just feel like the "oh I figured that was gonna happen, but I went along with it to make Marvin look like a liar." I think that you played it that you feel for it too, that would have made CJ look more human. It was a good segment and it ended strongly, which is what matters

- fun little segment from Delikado. Anything I say is repeating myself, but it was a good read.

- Someone shut Lively up? FINALLY! God that mother fucker wouldn't shut up. Happy to see Lively and AC continuing their feud to at least RM, i like both characters and can't wait to read more

- BACK ON THE PILLS! Knowing this bit of the history between the two of these, this is might be the most important segment that Noble has been apart of in APW, and ergo Chris Hart. I love Chris how Chris crawled back into the air vent to get away from teh security.

- Haha "but have you ever had a threesome with two sisters?" I loved this. When I read it the first time, I knew exactly what the plan was, and this was a nice set up.

- Helluva match between Evan and T-Marv. It sucked T-marv was stressed for time to RP, but still congrats to Evan, can't wait to see where you take it from here. I enjoyed the post match events as well. I thought Evan was gonna make a run for it for a minute. Very good stuff. I said I would touch more on the Biggs/L1 thing and I am, I love the stipulation on the case, it almost makes certain that Biggs/L1 will be a grudge match, and that's what I like to hear. Two guys, that just don't like each other, fighting on the biggest PPV of them all.

- SPeaking of two guys that don't like each other. I enjoyed hearing that Chris hart actually cared that he "didn't reach his potential". It just adds to the reason why Chris feels the need to stop Kurt. Everything Chris said lead to one line, everything he said served a purpose in the space of the segment. Kurt's "enough is enough" drive sets up something more in the night, and from what I've read so far, it's only gonna get taken another step.

- Damn, that was a great main event. Helluva job by the writer. Congrats to Mania on the successful defense and great fight put up by Deli. I loved Evan on commentary and the final coupe paragraphs, including the raccoon from earlier in the night, was great. Can't wait to see what Mania and Evan do leading up to Mania and can't wait to see how Deli plays into this.

- Career vs Career. So, just on Overdrive, Biggs vs L1, CJ vs Terry for the big belt, Evan vs Mania for the OD title, Lively vs AC Smith for the Xtreme title maybe, and now a career vs career match. That's a PPV by itself. I liked the straightjacket falling from the rafters, crazy noble needs his jacket cuz it's cold. I'm excited, knowing these two, this will be one helluva showing.

Overall, I don't think there was far too many segments, I think it was needed, alot of mania matches were set up. The small amount of matches didn't help, but I think the show flowed just fine. It was a great read and I'm looking forward to this week's show.

[C.J. Gates]

That was my worry with the segment, TJ. I wondered if maybe it was too heel-like for Gates. My thought for it was that because Gates has been around for a lot of instances similar to that, he'd have been knowledgable about it once in awhile, let alone from Terry. Though perhaps it would have been best to admit to falling for it, eat another title shot to the face and move on in another fashion. It also didn't help that I didn't know exactly what was happening feud wise so I ws kinda shooting from the hip, trying to put something together.

Aside from that one part everything worked out the way it should have,you villianized Marvin for lying to the fans, you said you plan on dethroning him for the fans and you said it's gonna be sweeter to beat him now thanks to that stunt. It started a bit weird but you finished very strong.
