A wrestling vignette
We are in a thick mist. The dark smoke of battle has blanketed the landscape. Dark shades of gray envelope a large moving object coming toward us. The ground is shaking as the air bleeds a grumbling of heavy machinery. As the silhouette draws nearer the smog can no longer mask the vehicle. It is a Sherman tank, massive and battle tested.
the up tempo of a drum is now beating. A band of uniformed soldiers with drums and trumpets play with pride, willing the revolutionary to continue the fight. The tank comes to a clearing where the smoke has risen far above the wasteland battle field. The uniformed warrior musicians stop their beats.
The Hatch opens and Warren Peace peaks out of the tanks entrance in army uniform, his helmet sits askew on his dome. He is smiling, after all this is a joyful occasion. The people, hesitant at first are now behind their leader.
He steps out and is now standing above the hatch of the tank. His combat boots are untied, no one notices. A crowd of soldiers flock around the war machine as Warren uses it's cunning size as a most effective podium.
he clears his throat and raises both of his arms in the air. This gesture captures the desired result, silence from the onlookers. A thick quiet mob of followers ready to hear the encouraging words from their leader.
Warren
People of the revolution. First of all I would like to thank you, for believing in this fight. And for believing in me. Absolutely none of this would be possible if it weren't for the well earned trust, and now unquestioning loyalty. For that I thank you.
I know at first everyone had their doubts, and you were not wrong to have feelings of great apprehension. The fact that you made me earn your trust and loyalty only turned me into a stronger leader, and a better man. God as our witness a better wrestler.
Isn't it amazing what can be accomplished with just a little gumption and a lot of balls? Everyone had their doubts, whether or not anyone of the APW megastars are willing to admit. They have been watching and scrutinizing every move that I have made since my returns. My wins, my losses, my actions in tag team action.
If you read between the lines you would see that all of these people were hoping for me to fail. They were praying for my constant dismissal because they remembered what kind of a threat I am to them.
Unlike them I don't treat the people as mindless sheep. I do not treat any of you as mindless zombies and I sure as hell have never insulted you with lies, or classic wrestling cliches. Even if what I said was unpopular, I have always done right by you.
Our recent success has proven that if we stand united, as a unit than there is no one who can stop us. The sky is the limit and this revolution now has a rocket strapped to its ass.
It is just a matter of time before we are in charge. And then, I promise there will be no more sports entertainment cliches. No longer will we insult the people with bright lights and smoke and mirrors. We will take this company in the right direction, for the people and by the people.
Join me in the fight, do not waver when faced with adversity, because as I have proven time and again, that I will always overcome the odds, one way or another. Any means necessary.
Warren raises a fist to the sky and all of the onlookers follow suit. The atmosphere of a revolution
Live! with Kelly and Michael...And Warren Peace
The studio is a buzz, the audience is filling into their seats. Stage hands are making the final checks for the presentation of the show. Rumor has that old co host Regis Philbin will be stopping by to make an appearance to discuss his recent appearances with his nephew Trevor in the APW.
A strange turn of events, and everyone is looking forward to seeing him explain his foray into the world of professional wrestling. Every seat in the studio is packed, a sold out crowd. The announcer is heard over the live microphone and announces the shows co hosts.
Announcer: Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome our Co hosts, Kelly Rippa and Michael Strahan!
They co hosts walk to their stools smiling and playing to the crowd while music plays. The irony is not lost on us, this is very much like a professional wrestler making their entrance to the ring. after they pander to the crowd for a few minutes they take their cue cards and begin their show.
Kelly: Well hello, how you all doing this morning?
MS: Hope, you are all having a wonderful morning.
Kelly: Indeed. I don't know about everyone else, but my morning would be so much better if we could get rid of this cold weather!
MS: I don't know, I love the cold weather. It makes my morning chipper.
Kelly: No.
MS: Yeah, I am a football player, and this is football weather.
Kelly: Well, all of this talk about the dreadful weather aside we have some news about our show this morning. Unfortunately Regis had some scheduling issues, and won;t be able to join us today.
The Audience lets out sighs and gasps of sorrow
MS: However we were able to secure an interesting guest who kind of correlates with what Regis is up to these days.
Kelly: That's right, see Regis has been making appearances with his nephew Trevor at action Packed Wrestling. He caused all kinds of raucous and his nephew Trevor has been crossing paths with our guest as of late.
MS: That's right we have Action Packed wrestling Megastar, the rising star of 2011, Warren Peace with us in the studio today and we look forward to hearing his input on the whacky Regis Philbin.
Kelly: So excited to hear his stories.
MS: Not only that, but this guys is a very polarizing figure. He is an interesting guy to say the least and without further ado we will go ahead and bring him out.
Kelly: Please give a warm welcome to Warren Peace.
The studios applause sign flashes several times as Warren makes his entrance in similar fashion to his APW entrance. he seems to be all business, with no showmanship. His fades jeans and worn out converse aside he is wearing a new shirt with Che's face looking slightly to the left.
Kelly: my my look at all of those tattoos.
MS: How are you doing today?
Warren I am good, thanks.
Kelly: So, how did you get into the business of professional wrestling?
Warren: Some of the fans out there who have followed me over the last few years would know this, but my father was a legend in the business. And I never really got to see him, so a few years ago I got into the ring. at first it was to try and get his attention, then when that didn't work I took it upon myself to try to destroy the business from the inside out.
MS: So you you don't like what you do for a living?
Warren: I learned to enjoy it over time. It took a while, I was so young that I had some leftover teen angst and a chip on my shoulder. Now I am way more interested in having success in the business.
Kelly: Well I would consider you a success, especially now that you have had the chance to work with my old buddy Regis and his nephew.
MS: Yeah, what is the old dude up to.
Warren: Honestly, I can't really tell you too much about what he is doing. My honest opinion is that he is making a mockery out of everything I stand for though. It's because of people like him that a stigmas exists about our sport.
MS: So you're not into Regis being around.
WarrenWell I take offense to anyone who thinks they can turn my work into some kind of big joke. And that's exactly what Regis being around has done. I mean it's easy to see why Trevor wants the guy around.
There is a little bit of, albeit dwindled down star power about the guy. Trevor needs Regis to hang around because if he didn't than there would be no relevance at all Hyatt.
Kelly: Oh wow.
WarrenWell it's like this. Here is a perfect example. Today I am a guest on your show. I didn't come out here and presume to know the ins and outs of your program. I didn't come in here and insult you or your audience.
Sure I could come out here and claim that you only had me on the show because Regis cancelled, and the only questions you have for me were written by some intern in the back who did a wuick google search on me. I could point out that you require cue cards to put together any sort of constructive thought.
However I haven't done that. Because unlike Hyatt and Regis I don't seek to insult your business, as they have insulted mine. Unlike most people I know our audience. Just as I know yours. They don't really want to see Warren Peace, just as the APW audience don't want to see Regis, but for time being we have to grin and bear.
Kelly: Wow you really do have a chip on your shoulder.
Warren I have many chips on my shoulders, hell I am Atlas carrying the world on my shoulders. Because there are just far to many stupid in this world making terrible decisions. Cops, politicians, wrestlers, and talk show hosts. As long as these people continue to insult me, and the people than I will always speak my mind and take action.
MS:What kind of action can you really take on Regis?
Warren: Regis is putting himself in harms way. When someone gets in my way I put them down, one way or the other, and I will put him down for good. If I have to snap his neck with a pile driver I will. The same goes for my opponent Trevor.
Kelly: Lets talk about your next opponent. How do you feel about him?
Warren This match up is actually kind of interesting. On the surface there are many similarities between the two of us. We are both the sons of wrestling legends, who broke into the business. And if you only scratch the surface you wouldn't take another look at us and consider us evenly matched.
And you would be wrong, because that's where the similarities end. Trevor Hyatt is a farce in this business and with the inclusion of Regis to his already stale act it's pretty clear that if he truly was once a gifted wrestler his time came and gone long ago when he was with those other promotions that no one has ever heard of.
MS: So this guys been around the block a few times?
WarrenIf you believe his lies than yes. However the fact remains that here, where it matters in the APW he has been tested and has come up short. Last week I defeated him and two other opponents in a fatal four way match. He was the least impressive opponent I have been in the ring with since my return.
And the worst part of his stale act is he has become self aware, because he has been "shooting" on us, his opponents. Well I am not sure if he has ever really watched our product, but I am going to go ahead call gimmick infringement on that one. I was shooting before it was ever cool.
Hell, not that I think about it, you weren't such a stale wannabe rock star out of date and out of touch I would call my lawyer. But here's a little lesson for you Trevor.
If you're gonna shoot, don't draw against the best. essentially you brought a pistol to a tank battle and there's nothing you have in that outdated arsenal that can even chip my armor.
You are a flamboyant showboating, piss poor excuse for a competitor. You can take the glam rock look, all of your glitter and showmanship and stick straight up your BLEEP.
Kelly: Uh oh
MS: watch those censors
WarrenYour are the epitome of everything that is wrong with professional wrestling.
You don't take true pride in this or you wouldn't be running around dressed like some cartoon exaggeration of an 80's rassler. furthermore you bring in the likes of Regis Philbin for what? Comic relief? I've got news for you buddy you need some comic realief then take a look in the mirror because you are a joke.
Last week I didn't just defeat you, but three opponents all fell before me, because I am the real deal. I don't get caught up in your stupid theatrics and persona's. I am a real life bread and butter competitor.
I am not concerned about putting on a show. I do not give a BLEEP
Kelly: There he goes again.
MS: I'm speechless.
Warren is in the zone, and doesn't care to listen
Warrenabout entertaining anyone. I am here to kick peoples teeth down their throat. I am here to cripple people with pile drivers.
You are caught up in something that your glittery magic show can't help you with. I am waging war, breeding a revolution. because the people you con artist claim to entertain deserve a better class of professional wrestler, a better class her for their children.
For weeks now I have been demanding a shot at gold. because I am tired of this business being represented by classless champions. Finally after weeks of demonstrating my abilities in the ring the powers that be decide to throw me a bone.
because they can no longer deny the fact that I am a wrestling machine. they can't deny the fact that I am commanding a revolution to loud to be ignored.
and all I have to do to to finally earn my shot at the gold, is to put you down for a second time. Our last interaction the ring was me catching you in mid air and slamming you down with a ferocious power bomb leaving you to coil up breathless and unable to prevent me from pinning double d and capturing the the victory of the fatal four bout.
This week I don't have the distractions of Jason Statham or double D. I get to focus all of my attention on you and that my friend makes this bad news even worse for you.
You are a poster boy for everything that is wrong with this sport. People like you are the reason people like me are laughed at and questioned when they realize what we do.
I have studied your arsenal. I know your schtick and I have calculated every outcome of this fight, and it doesn't take a magic eight ball to tell you, that the outlook isn't good for you.
The people have spoken, and it is clear that I am the man to lead them into the next decade. I am the man to lead them to a more proud and fruitful pastures. I will not let them down. I will not let myself down.
I will die before I let someone like you take this opportunity away from me. That is the the root of my dedication, that I you will have to terminate me.
Do you have that in you? The ability to put me out for good? because I certainly won't think twice about slaying you in front of the millions. I will be the next North American Champion.
There is nothing that you, Regis, Mannie, or Charlie can do about it. And the war drums will pound and the trumpets will sound. Flags will be raised and wave in my honor, and I will defend the title in honor of my followers.
United we stand, divided we brawl.
Warren walks of the set leaving kelly and Miachel waiting for commercial break.
We are in a thick mist. The dark smoke of battle has blanketed the landscape. Dark shades of gray envelope a large moving object coming toward us.
