APW.com can officially announce today that former Tap Out Champion "Quintessentially English" Julius Farquhar has had his contract terminated by 'mutual consent'.
Last week Farquhar met with Asylum GM Reginald Schmidt and APW President Hurricane Jeff to discuss his future. Farquhar had recently had a lawsuit against the company's hierarchy dismissed in court, and the meeting was aimed at discussing and drawing up a timetable for Farquhar's re-integration onto Asylum.
However, talks broke down when no agreement could be made. We contacted Reginald Schmidt and he said:
"I was optimistic we could reach some kind of agreement with Julius Farquhar. In spite of our personal differences, Julius was an important cog in the Asylum machine during 2012, and he proved his worth with his reign as the Tap Out Champion, the longest in the history of the division."
"However, what Julius was demanding was unacceptable; there was no way we could agree to his terms, and there was compromise to be found on his part. Unfortunately, the only resolution was to find a termination deal that would suit all parties."
The sticking point is believed to Julius Farquhar's demand that the conditions for his return to Asylum involved a place in the Asylum main event at Rasslemania IX. Both Reginald and President Jeff stood firm in their opposition to this. Not only do they see the much anticipated rematch between World Heavyweight Champion Phil Atken and Michael Callahan as key part of the Rasslemania package, it was also felt that bumping Farquhar straight from suspension to a spot in the biggest match of the year was unjustified, and could lead to unwarranted unrest among the Asylum roster.
The terms of the release are unknown, but Reginald made it clear that Julius Farquhar would not be blacklisted with APW.
"He's a great wrestler, and character the fans love to hate. Therefore he has a kind of perverse popularity...
...We never say never, but for now we say adieu and wish Mr. Farquhar all the best in his future endeavours."
