Seeing as how there isn't an Overdrive Feedback thread yet, and I'm just now getting the time to read the show, I figured I'd do something I don't do very often, and that's write feedback as I'm reading the show.
Overdrive 2/21
-Like the cold open with Mark Mania and Jeff. It's very brief, but made it's point, that Mark and Jeff are working on a deal of sorts. The fact that it's left in the air gives me a hook to read the rest of the show to find out. (If it's resolved this show, don't know yet because I just started reading! )
-Like the comment by Chase, “'The Future' will be in the past tense if he keeps that up.” Overall, I felt the match had some good back and forth action, although the part where Lively had Washington's legs wrapped round the post in a Figure Four, it wouldn't have mattered if the ref saw Washington Tapping or not, there was a rope break, because his legs, and probably even hips and midsection, would have to break the plane of the ropes to be able to be put in a Ring Post Figure Four. Other than that minor quibble, good match.
-As always, a great segment from Level-One. There were so many nice little character touches, like everyone ignoring DeLoren, Level-One making a crack about how the bounty is low compared to the value of his Billion Dollar Briefcase, and the not so subtle tension between Level-One and Terry Marvin that is forming. Loved the bit at the end where L1 tells Felipe that he can't protect “him” forever, him obviously being Tmarv.
-Up next is my seg, which I hope everyone liked. I feel like I'm starting to finally find my voice as a face, but I would enjoy getting some feedback in how I can improve. Being a heel is fun and easy, being a face is hard!
-Like Dan White's intro promo. He said himself that he was rambling near the end, and it did kind of get the feeling, but overall, it established White well as a fan favorite who will work hard and not cut corners. Look forward to seeing more from the Welsh Dragon.
-Good match between Mania and Legion. Loved the fact that Evan somehow had the sway to get Darren Harvey's mic turned off. I know it was to make the match writing easier by only having the normal 2 commentators, but after reading that match, if Evan decides to retire his character, well, I think he has a future in broadcasting!
As for the match itself, having not read the RPs mind you, I would have liked to have seen a bit more offense from Legion to give Mark something more to come back from. Still, dominant win for the champ that builds him up en route to RassleMania.
-As somebody who doesn't follow interfed stuff at all, most of the Terry Marvin/CRW seg fell flat for me. It wasn't until Johnny Rebel came in that there seemed to be a point to the angle. Also, initial impression about CRW, considering Diamond Legend's bio, and the bit about Jun Mazuki, is that CRW has a bit of a sleazy edge to it.
-Good seg by Level-One, playing up the bounty angle.
-It looks like Slade Craven vs. Shadow is being built for RassleMania, and I for one would love to see that match. This was probably the most consistant, most focused promo I've seen from Slade, and Shadow acknowledging his recent shortcomings was a nice character touch that shows Shadow isn't delusional. And while I did give permission for Shadow to use Biggs, I would have liked to see some acknowledgment between Biggs and Shadow, like a head nod or something, that says they're on good terms now. Not buddy-buddy, but good terms. In any event, I look forward to the further build for their match.
-Poor Calvin...
-It doesn't make sense as to why A.C. Smith wouldn't take the Extreme Championship out to the ring with him. Maybe I'm being nitpicky, but other than that stretch of suspending disbelief, a rock solid seg between A.C. and Lively. A.C. stuck to his guns, while Lively was as sleazy as ever.
-I loved the Triple Threat Match, especially all the unintentional double teamings. AJP, you did a great job with the match flow, great job with the commentary, and you really played up all the characters in the match. Loved the unpredictable counters, and all in all, just a good match. Thanks Kurt and A.C. for a fun match!
-There's a reason why Evan Envi is one of my favorite characters on Overdrive, and promos like this, where he shows true emotion and passion, drive home just how great of a writer Evan is. Also, good heel logic with using C.J. as his springboard.
-Level-One doesn't get his butt kicked very often, but boy did he get his butt kicked in that seg with the “CRW” wrestlers. This also works to build more tension between L1 and Tmarv, considering Tmarv was hanging out with CRW folks earlier. (Now that prior seg seems better, with this payoff.) Still, the fact that Level-One was protecting the briefcase more than himself shows just how much he's come to value it. Great seg.
-Nice brief segment from Terry, which not only plays into his match with Deli later, but also looks forward to RassleMania. More good heel logic, as he derides APW for not treating him the way he thinks he should be. It's basic, but it's used a lot because it works.
-I liked the fact that Mania played dumb about his conversation with Jeff earlier. Also, I look forward to seeing what Evan will actually have to do to get a match at Mania.
-I wrote Evan vs. C.J., so I won't be giving feedback on it so much as I will give a commentary. There's no doubt in my mind that we're going to eventually see C.J. Gates vs. Evan Envi in a high profile pay per view match, so I didn't feel like this match needed to be an epic. I wanted to put over the ferociousness and bitterness of Evan, versus the heart and determination of C.J. Hopefully y'all liked the match.
-Jeff is a face owner, yet he read like a heel in the Diamond Legend seg. I'm chalking it up to Diamond being new to the fed. Other than that, though, a well written seg.
-Delikado is so random, and so hilarious.
-Love the fact that James Chambers is going into the HOF. So far, we have two Asylum Mega Stars going into this class. (Alright, Cyrus was an APW original, and primarily an Overdrive guy, but he finished out on Asylum.)
-That last segment was intense with Level-One.
-Great action in the Main Event Match. CRW's involvement in the post match seemed rushed, but then C.J. getting the upper hand by cuffing Terry to himself was clutch! Good to see Gates come out on top in that seg.
-We're closing out with Chris Hart & Kurt Noble for the second week in a row. Not that I'm complaining, because it's great and compelling stuff. I understand with the length of this segment, it either needed to start the show or end it, because it was simply too long to not break the momentum of the show if it was somewhere in the middle. Still, Career vs. Career is a huge stip, and it'll be fun to see what the Three Stages are. It might be fun to have each guy pick one, and then have somebody like Amy Noble pick the third, but that's just fantasy booking on my part! Next week, though, I'd like to see the show close out with something pertaining to the Undisputed Championship Match.
-Overall, good build towards Mania. Looking forward to seeing the card take more shape, stipulations being settled on, and continuing our march to the biggest show of the year. Great job everyone!
