We open these events in media res, where Cid Phoenix has made an appearance as a guest on an Internet Wrestling Forum, hosted by a man named Matt Courec. 25 minutes of the interview has passed with Phoenix having spoken about breaking into the business, his past accomplishments and failures, relationships both personal and business, who he feels should go to the APW Hall of Fame, his lack of a great rivalry in recent years, and his brief music career. The forum continues after having taken a short break to close up with an ending discussion about Cid's upcoming match against Kevin Dahlia..
Matt: And we're back with "On The Ropes" with Cid Phoenix, APW Megastar. Now Cid - this week, you face off against the man who handed you a sound defeat last week in Kevin "The New Cancer" Dahlia. Would you say that you've bitten more than you can chew, in having to face this man twice? I mean, he's already gotten the better of you once. What's going to make this encounter so different from the previous one?
Phoenix: One thing that can definitely be said about me, is that you can't ever count me out. I always bounce back from a loss or even a series of losses. It's in my namesake. It's what I do.
Matt: Well, you certainly came back to the APW with quite a showing in your first matchup, before hitting several snags on the road ahead, facing Evan McDonald in a series of matches that saw you on the short end of victory, before again bouncing back with a squash match victory which ended the career of one of Japan's Superstars, Hano Eiyu. That victory was then superceded by a hard fought loss against Kevin Dahlia. So the question that remains, is how do you feel going into this matchup with Kevin Dahlia and what strategy would you change or utilize to gain favor in this match?
Phoenix (sighs): Well, first of all I want to say that going into this second matchup with Kevin is more comfortable to me in that we've broken that ice - we've already faced eachother and felt eachother's strategies out. I feel more comfortable now that I've had a chance to see his wrestling strategy and realize just what it is that I have to bring to the ring in order to get that upper hand and gain victory. Again, with such hype built around my return I can't promise you that I will win every match, but I can guarantee that in each and every one, you will get the best from me in whoever I face and that is all that I can really say as far as this week and the upcoming weeks to follow..
Matt: Spoken like a man who views things realistically.
Phoenix (chuckles): Yes. It's easy to get hyped up and trash-talk, but it's a different matter when one does it and then falls short of their goal. I think from now on, I'll be a lot more humble in my approach towards my opponents - whoever they may be.
Matt: Now, hearing you speak the way that you are right now... What can we see from Cid Phoenix from here on out?
Phoenix takes a moment to think to himself, before continuing.
Phoenix: You can expect lots of intensity, excitement and heart from here on out. You can also expect alot of professionalism and respect. Humility can change a man.
Matt: Wow. Strong words of wisdom from a wrestler who even now is still learning new things. It has been a pleasure talking with you and good luck to you in your match.
Cid Phoenix nods and shakes the man's hand, as he turns towards the camera to call a commercial break. As the cameraman signals that the feed has been cut, Phoenix removes his microphone and earpiece as well as the battery pack, handing them over to one staffmember on hand..
Matt: That was an insightful interview, Mr. Phoenix. Thank you for giving us a bit of your time.
Phoenix: No worries, Matt. I've had some time to think about where I've been and where I'm headed and where I'd like to go if I can get there.
Matt: Ah, yes.. chasing the gold, right?
Phoenix (shamelessly): Always. I want to leave my mark here in the APW. I know I've still got years left in my career, but in all honesty, I'd like to spend the rest of my career here. If I can prove to this company that I can run with the ball given the opportunity, I will do just that. I'll make Pence proud..
Matt: Pence Weatherlight, the former champion and future Hall of Famer?
Phoenix: Yeah, like I told you earlier, he's the guy that got me here in the APW. We were in Vegas together back when things weren't going so well for me there.
Matt: Everyone knows about the bad blood between you and your former employers. I hope that you have changed your ways and see this as an opportunity to better yourself both as a wrestler and as a man.
Phoenix (smiles): I will and I do. And I won't let go of this opportunity. My eyes are wide open now and I will tread more carefully.
Matt: Good, I hope so. Well, I've got to get ready for our next guest, but I will be at the show! Thank you for the ringside seats, by the way.
Phoenix: No problem, Matt. It's the least I could do after your producers told us at APW how much of a fan you were. I'll see you at the show!
Matt Courec shakes Phoenix's hand and the two part ways. Phoenix puts on his shades and walks off, exiting the building en route to the gym.
