First and foremost I want to thank Terry Marvin for all his hard work since he took up the reigns. My time on Meltdown has been brief, but I’ve found Terry to be (as you would expect) very accommodating and supportive. On top of that he has maintained the very high expectations here in APW of ensuring shows are out on time. Well done and thanks bro! Good luck on Overdrive(?).
Props also to Evan Envi, who I know is going to make any transition seamless. Now on with the show....
Not going to feedback my own segments, but I’ll offer a bit of commentary. I’m looking to make a more definite link between the storyline in my RPs and the shows. This isn’t something I’ve really done before in APW, so that’s why the ‘lockdown’ stuff has been incorporated here.
McDonald vs. Jake Titan. Good match, both guys look good with the length of this match and the abundance of false finishes makes them both look quite tough. Evan McDonald is one of those guys I feel is just waiting to burst out of the shackles. Maybe he’s been given a rough deal with all the tag matches, but could he be doing more to push himself out there? Jake Titan picks up the surprise win (only because I know more about McDonald), but it’s a good win. Tough break for McDonald.
Good segment with the GMs and Robina, really conveys the tension and the worry among them, about the match involving Sienna and their futures. The involvement of Robina is key here, because even her ‘perfect megastar’ can’t shake Sienna out of her reverie. Even though we know what is happening OOC, I still feel uncertain about what exactly will happen later because it wouldn’t surprise me if Evan has some doosra for us all.
Solid squash match for Cid Phoenix. I tried to hype the ladder match through this as well as giving Cid a nice push ahead of Rasslemania.
I love the dynamic between KJE and AJP. It has the love-hate relationship right down to a tee, and it is a refreshing change to see rivals interacting on these terms, rather than simply hating each other. Good work ladies (even if you are both Asylum Megastars ;-p)
Gooch/Knox vs. Hyatt/Niobe. Pretty raw deal for Niobe, having to team with a guy who was 95% likely to no-show, but I think she got some good exposure in this one. I liked the story in this match, with Knoxville reluctant to grapple with Niobe. If there was no strat, that is astute match-writing so well done.
Brief segment Havok. It was fine for what it was, typical Havok. However, it would have been better served focussing more on the Rasslemania match, rather than Trevor Hyatt. The mention of last week was valid enough given the point being made in reference to it (Havok being back ‘in the groove’), but rather than just another throwaway threat I think a more developed promo to sell the Rasslemania match could have made this a better segment with better impact.
Another solid squash, this time for Leon Roberts. Good night for the NBK in kayfabe, they’re looking as impressive in singles as they do in tag matches.
A second good segment between the GMs. Excellent sell of Amy Zing here, and again we get hints of a growing divide between the bosses – how will this impact events later on?
Ladder match. This was the right length for what was partly a match to hype the Rasslemania match – you don’t want to give too much away for free just a couple of weeks before the biggest PPV of the year.
Zing v Sienna. With Sienna being a former wrestler I guess there is some credibility to her putting up a decent performance, although you wouldn’t want her to look better than Robina. Zing picks up the win, but you wonder whether this really closes the book on this one. The net outcome is that Zing looks really good going into Rasslemania.
ME. I won’t feedback the match, but will say this is a big opportunity for Evan McDonald – good luck. It’s a shame for Kevin Dahlia, but it does look like he’s gone awol again.
Final segment. So Sienna stays on. It’ll be interesting to see how she runs the show in sole charge. Duvall’s meltdown (excuse the pun) was a bit over the top, but I look forward to seeing how his ‘revenge’ pans out.
Only thing I would say is that I think the final segment should have gone to the tag match. Not saying this because I was in it, or because I wrote it, but because this was the last Meltdown proper before Rasslemania, the final segment of the show should have been focussed on Rasslemania and the North American Championship match, not control of the show. That would have been the penultimate segment in my mind. Plus, Sienna’s announcement about Evan McDonald would have consolidated the fact she now has sole control of affairs.
Overall, it was a good show in terms of what was put out was good, but maybe a little light on genuine hype for Rasslemania, and it’s still very much a show about the same 5-6 Megastars. I think there were only two segments involving three of the eight megastars in that match in the whole show (I’m discounting Sienna’s post ME announcement) that actually referred to Rasslemania, and it was only the Guvnor/Warren segment that built any real hype. Where is everybody else? In terms of kayfabe this match is the opportunity of a lifetime for characters like Niobe Martin, Robina Hood and Cid Phoenix – have these characters got nothing to say?
I know you guys are going to put in the graft in terms of RPs for the show, but, and I’m repeating a theme here, there needs be more involvement across the whole show. It’s a bit disappointing because this is undoubtedly the biggest match in the history of Meltdown, but right now it looks like it’s just going to be another match on the card.
Anyway, that’s my piece said.

I'm going to read this today at work. It's a pity that the more impressive Meltdown gets, the less people read.
