Fear is an emotion induced by a perceived threat which causes entities to quickly pull away from it and usually hide. It is a basic survival mechanism occurring in response to a specific stimulus, such as pain or the threat of danger. In short, fear is the ability to recognize danger leading to an urge to confront it or flee from it; also known as the fight-or-flight response.

A loud humming can be heard like a swarm of bees, vibrating against his skin. A bright gleam of light from a nearby sunset overlooking the heavens in the distance. Men and women alike, sitting beside Reaver all wearing goggles and flight suits ready to take the leap of faith. This was something he's wanted to do for a long time. Not for the thrill or adventure, but to free himself of doubt. Finally, his moment had come and he was finally going to skydive for the first time in his life.
The instructor looks over at him and mumbles a few words of encouragement but is quickly lost in translation due to the loud engine of the plane. The crowd roars with excitement as he gives the thumbs up and opens the sliding door at the drop point. Reaver giggles to himself, rocking back and forth with a grin on his face. A couple of the other members look slightly creeped out at the sight of some weirdo in a mask and a grin. Gives them reminders of a bad horror movie.
Reaver: Look cliché? Why? Because I'm doing something I've wanted to do for quite some time now? Since I'm “just a man in a mask” TJ, I'm going to let you in on a secret. I'm not a fan of heights. It's not the actual height but that awkward feeling you get when you fall. You know what I'm talking about right? That feeling as if the weight of the world decided to crush you just for the fun of it. I'm doing this not because I wanna' try to remove my fears, not to overcome them, but to make them grow.
I know it sounds confusing but a man really isn't at their best unless they have nothing left to lose. What do I have to lose here TJ? Nothing but my life as a number of things could easily go wrong. The parachute could be packaged improperly causing it not to deploy when I need it to. The cord could snap off completely while the emergency chute fails. The entire thing could just snap off altogether. My point is that if I'm to be at my best, then you need to have me at my absolute worst. I need to be terrified beyond belief and with the thought of absolute and imminent death.
HEHEHEHAHAHAHA.....
He licks his lips out of compulsive habit awaiting his turn to jump. The instructor gives some last minute advice as he starts giving people the go. One by one they jump with small distances between them. A few go in groups as if they've done this multiple times before and are looking to create sky art.
Reaver: I'm putting myself into position TJ. By backing myself into the corner, it fuels the killer instinct I have and makes me that much more dangerous. The same thing could easily be said about you I guess. The fear that you have of me. It wasn't there before but I was instilled by me and that; combined with what I'm putting myself through at this very moment will make for a very interesting fight don't you agree?
The instructor looks at Reaver and lets him know it's his turn. His heart races as he laughs maniacally. Clutching onto his harness, he gives the instructor the signal to give him a quick boot out of the plane for good measure. Sweat begins to drip off of his brow in fear. The thought of plummeting back to earth from 10,000 feet in the air as his body gradually rising to terminal velocity makes his body shake. He grins as the instructor kicks him out of the plane sending him hurdling through the skies. His body opened up as if to belly flop back onto the world, all the while he spins to that his back facing his body up at the plane. He watches as his instructor makes HIS jump just to keep an eye on his students. Reaver pulls out a mini cam and records his decent back to solid ground.
Reaver: JUST SO YOU KNOW, I'M NOT SCREAMING BECAUSE OF THIS FEELING OF WEIGHTLESSNESS, THE LOUD NOISE OF THE WIND MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO MAKE OUT WHAT I'D BE SAYING IF I WAS TO TALK LIKE I WAS BACK IN THE PLANE. BUT DO YOU SEE WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT TJ? AS EXHILARATING AS THIS FEELS, IT FEEDS THE FEARS JUST LIKE YOU HAVE OF ME.
YOUR FEAR OF ME ISN'T WHAT YOU THINK THOUGH, THE FEAR YOU HAVE IS OF LOSING THE ONE THING YOU BEEN CHASING AFTER FOR SO LONG. I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL AND KNOW WHAT YOU'RE GOING THROUGH. I CHASED JASON KASH FOR SEVEN LONG YEARS AND IT WAS JUST A COUPLE SHORT MONTHS AGO THAT I WAS ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH MY GOAL OF PINNING HIM AND IT HAPPENED TO BE FOR A CHAMPIONSHIP OF SORTS. BUT BY HIM PUTTING ME IN THE HOSPITAL, HE UNLEASHED SOMETHING THAT'S BEEN SLEEPING FOR FAR TOO LONG.
THIS IS WHY YOU THINK I'M NOTHING MORE THAN JUST A SIMPLE MAN. YOU STILL LOOK AT ME AS THE JOKE OF APW. YOU STILL SEE A FUN LOVING GUY WHO WANTED TO MAKE PEOPLE HAPPY. NOTHING HAS CHANGED TJ, I JUST DO IT SLIGHTLY DIFFERENTLY THAN YOU REMEMBER. PEOPLE NEVER TOOK ME SERIOUSLY, THEY SAW ME AS YOU DO AND YOU'RE LIVING PROOF. YOU SAID IT YOURSELF REMEMBER? BUT THAT'S NOT THE ONLY THING YOU FEAR. YOU DON'T WANT TO LOSE TO THAT GUY. HOW WOULD IT LOOK ON YOU; TO LOSE A HARD EARNED CHAMPIONSHIP BELT TO THE WALKING JOKE OF ASYLUM? IF THIS IS ALL YOU'RE AFRAID OF TJ, THEN YOU MIGHT HAVE BITTEN OFF MORE THAN YOU CAN CHEW.....
A few minutes have passed by as some of the earlier jumpers have already deployed their chutes. They reach the 5,000 feet mark as Reaver refuses to open his chute. The instructor yells at him from a distance but can't quite be heard. He continues to laugh and lick his lips out of compulsion.
Reaver: YOU'VE DONE A LOT ON YOUR CAREER HERE IN APW TJ. YOU WERE ONE IF NOT THEEEE' FIRST PERSON FROM MELTDOWN TO MAKE IT BIG. YOU STRUGGLED AND CLAWED AND SCRAPPED TO GET TO WHERE YOU ARE AND THAT FEELING THAT SOMEBODY LIKE ME WHO HAS THE BIGGEST POTENTIAL TO TAKE THAT AWAY FROM YOU MUST GET UNDER YOUR SKIN. THE PROBLEM IS THAT YOU SEEM TO THINK THAT YOU'RE THE ONLY PERSON WHO FOUGHT TOOTH AND NAIL TO GET TO WHERE THEY ARE.
YOU'VE BECOME VERY PRETENTIOUS TJ. HEHEHAHAHAHA......YOU SAW ME AND THOUGHT THAT I'D BE EASY PICKIN'S HUH? YOU THOUGHT THAT I'D BE SOME PUSH OVER AND THAT WAS WHY YOU STARTED PLAYING MIND GAMES WITH ME. YOUU COULD LOOK DEEP INTO MY EYES RIGHT NOW AND SEE I WAS TELLING YOU THE TRUTH ABOUT WHO I WAS FROM DAY ONE BUT YOU CHOSE TO IGNORE THAT. YOU KNEW THAT YOU WOULD BECOME TAP OUT CHAMPION BECAUSE FARQUAR WOULD BE TOO WEAK TO PUT YOU DOWN AFTER DEALING WITH THE LIKES OF THREE TOUGH COMPETITORS PRIOR IN THE SAME MATCH. IT WAS THE SAME THING THAT HAPPENED TO JASON KASH BEFORE HAND IN THE SAME SCENARIO.
YOU COULDN'T GET THE JOB DONE ONE ON ONE WITH FARQUAR AND SAW AN OPENING. YOU COULDN'T GET IT DONE WITH KASH AND SEEN THE OPENING. I DON'T BLAME YOU FOR IT, HAD I BEEN IN THE SAME SITUATION I WOULD HAVE DONE THE SAME. BUT IT GOES TO SHOW THAT TJ, THE SOOOOOUUULLLLL OF PHILLLAAYYY'' CAN'T GET THE JOB DONE WITHOUT A LITTLE BIT OF HELP. JUST LIKE WITH STEPHAN RAAB, JUST LIKE LAST ASYLUM WHEN YOU BEAT KASH BECAUSE OF ME! JUST LIKE THE PACK OF DOGS MENTALITY WITH YOU AND THE REST OF “THE PILLARS” THAT SEEM TO HAVE CRUMBLED ALL AROUND YOU, AND THAT ISN'T FEAR TJ....IT'S DESPERATION.
The instructor races to Reaver who STILL hasn't opened his chute at this point and approaching 2,000 feet from impact. At this point, his terminal velocity would be the equivalent of a speeding semi on the highway going 90 miles per hour. Diving head first through the sky, he rushes to catch up and manages to grab ahold of Reaver's cord and rip it open as well as his own. The chute fly's out of the bag bringing them both almost to a screeching halt in the air but not quite fast enough as both men still race to the ground. Both men slide and hit the ground with a solid THUD upon impact. The groans and grunts coming from the instructor suggests that he broke something as Reaver rolls around on the ground laughing his ass off as if he heard the funniest joke ever made.
The instructor takes off his parachute and runs over to check on Reaver who is still laughing. After realizing that he's ok, he starts screaming at him in anger.
Instructor: ARE YOU NUTS!? You almost got us both killed!
Reaver: Cmon' guy, you do this for a living and you didn't find that fun? HAHAHAHA!!
Instructor: I may have just broken my wrist. Are you trying to commit suicide or something?
Reaver: It was just a joke, lighten up. HEHEHAHAHAHA!
The other students land around the same area and watch on leaving their snarky comments amongst themselves. Reaver, who struggles to get up, also seems to be struggling to take off his parachute. His heart races like a band doing a long drum solo. His breath is short as he continues to grin while his body shakes with fear and excitement.

The opposite of truth is falsehood, which, correspondingly, can also take on a logical, factual, or ethical meaning. Reaver: Let's talk truth for a brief moment TJ. You have worked your ass off for this company for what? Over a year? Almost two? You fought hard and finally became a champion that fits in the style of who you really are. You are a man of honor, Asylum's White Knight as it were. You fight for justice and finally dominated in a division where two men walk into the ring and fight face to face without interruption. No escape, no trickery, just straight up go. It's commendable, it really is. I was once just like you but I fell onto hard times. I used to believe the same things and that's why you and I got along so well.
But now this is where we differ. While title shot after title shot was handed to you out of sheer pride, I was offered nothing. I worked my ass off for damn well three years and had the same amount of opportunities as you did. Sounds to me that the powers that be didn't want a greasy guy like me to be showcased as much as a clean cut goody goody like you. Never once did I complain TJ, I took it all in stride and you saw the potential in me. But the very second people started pushing me away because of some he said, she said bullshit, you jumped on that bandwagon and followed suit. Guys like you looked at me like I was garbage. Like I was some “protected commodity” to keep my feelings from being hurt.
I work my ass off for every little thing I have and not a damn thing was ever handed to me. Now here you are with some “holier than thou” attitude as if you're better than me. Why? Because you became a champion before I did? Because legends saw you as an up and comer that showed tons of potential? Or was it because you fell in line when I told people to go fuck themselves? I know it sounds confusing TJ but you're not the “White Knight” people perceive you to be. How could you be and still claim the rights of being the most violent and dangerous man on Asylum? How could you be this over hyped behemoth of a man and still ride off with the proverbial girl in the sunset?
You are not, nor have you ever claimed to be. It's just something of observation from the outside looking in TJ and you had the right to know. All I've ever asked was to be put in the hardest position possible so I can prove myself, to prove that I can hang with the best. If you look back at my APW career, you can catch glimpses of that potential in my Survive and Conquer performances. CJ Gates sees it, Level One sees it. Why can't you? Or maybe you do but are too proud to admit it? Your accomplishments could be easily looked at and praised while mine are laughed away. Protected? PFFT! People are just too afraid to see how far I'd be willing to go against the top talent in this business.
You are just like the rest of them TJ. What's the REAL reason you started shit with me huh? Why all the snarky comments to me about how much better you are than me? Am I supposed to be some sort of notch on your belt to prove that YOU truly earned that title? Or did you honestly feel that I'd be your biggest competition? I take everybody seriously and I do NOT back down. I made you bleed and came very close to setting you on fire. Not for laughs, but to show the world the ugliness that you hold deep down inside of you. It sleeps like mine used to and I've been trying to draw it out little by little. Your damn right I'm in your head HEHEHEHAHAHAHA......now the true test can begin.
I can't be bought. I'm not looking for anything logical like money. I can't be bullied, negotiated or reasoned with. I just wanna' watch your world burn TJ. The same world that you claim to be on top of. The place where I myself belong. You are only as good as your world allows you to be and I will show you that when the chips are down, these “civilized people” will eat each other. When I poured that gasoline on you TJ, I wanted to see what you would do and you didn't disappoint. You put me through a wall, you threw me into a dumpster. Even to a guy like me, that's cold. There's no going back and you and I have changed things. The way Asylum thinks and acts, how they look at guys like us. There's no hiding from you cuz' I've been in your face this whole time. I AM the true embodiment of Asylum, the mentality, the SOOOOOUUUULLLLL!!!!
