Feeding the hand that bites me.
Buck leans his seat back and spreads out some. Since the embarrassment of having the woman leave her first class seat to sit back in coach because of him, his stench, and his looks, he has opted to purchase two first class tickets and be comfortable coming home.
This flight was going to be long. Getting on the flight wasn’t difficult, except for the language barrier, but he is excited to leave Buenos Aires. It’s a late flight, but the city is beautiful below the plane...they almost had to fly in a spiral, due to other flights, to ascend so high and still be over the city.
He misses Annabelle and Jimmy. He misses sweet little Lily. While most of the wrestlers are staying in South America, Gooch is flying home for a few days then making another long flight back to wrestle in Columbia.
It’s in moments like that that Buckson Gooch realizes how small he truly is. He does have an impact, but his way of making one will be different than most.
Stewardess: Would you like a cold beverage?
Buckson Gooch: Do you have any sweet tea?
Stewardess: We have unsweet and you could put sugar in it.
Buckson Gooch: I’ll take a Coke.
The stewardess pops the can and pours it into the tiny plastic cup and carts on to others. Buck wonders what people around the world think about sweet tea. The only place that really makes it good is the South. He’s thought it was dumb for years that people would serve unsweet tea and give someone sugar...all that does is make the bottom of your glass look like a snow globe and you get goupy tea or very mild sweet tea.
But who really notices that?
In the grand scheme of things it doesn’t mean much. Buck doesn’t make a big deal about it.
Much like the changing of the seasons, Buck doesn’t get too upset about previous matches. Tommy Knoxville is a talented wrestler and he will get his...he can be assured of that. Gooch turns his eyes to out the window again...
...the dark expanse seems endless...
...But we can know it’s not, there just isn’t any light...
That’s why people sneak attack others, steal in the night, and do things behind closed doors. It’s easier to be sneaky and do wrong when you feel like no one is looking.
You can’t be that way with farming. The majority of the work is work for the daytime. The sun beats down on your back as you labor over the soil. Buckson Gooch is one of the most transparent stars in APW. What you see is what you get. He’s the same guy on camera as he is off camera. Being sincere is natural for him because that’s how he lives his life.
Buckson Gooch: Level-One....or Battle Royal?
The hushed whisper isn’t heard by anyone on the plane.
Buckson Gooch shakes his head at the possibility. Level-One is one of the most dangerous wrestlers in the world. Buck has taken pride in his ability to hang with the big dogs...and if he hangs with Level-One, he would be a made man. Both instances will be difficult...but what goals are worth it that aren't difficult?
If he isn’t chosen...he’ll face other MegaStars in a battle royal. 5 of the top wrestlers in the world today will be in one ring trying to throw each other over the top rope. Sounds daunting, too.
Buckson Gooch: Country Bred...
Buck is “Country Bred”...no matter the adversity, he is ready to rise up against it. He’s had to work hard for everything he’s ever received. No handouts. You can’t convince plants to grow if you don’t do the work. It’s a lifestyle. It’s a frame of mind.
...No days off...
...No shortcuts...
...Do the work...
...Do your best....
...Make a goal...
...Achieve it...
...Have a dream?..
...Achieve it...
Regardless of who Buckson Gooch faces...regardless of the odds stacked against him...Buckson Gooch believes in himself.
Buckson Gooch: I believe in Buckson Gooch...
The whisper temporarily fogs the window he’s looking, all the while curling his lip into a small smile. Buckson Gooch is ready for the challenge...
...he’s ready to face the best...
...he wants to be one of the best...
...He will be one of the best...
...He WILL be one of the best...
Level-One was once a rookie like Buckson Gooch, just like everyone on the card for Overdrive. Buck is ahead of the curve, but has a long way to go...he knows it...but he's gaining valuable experience...when all is said and done...fans will remember Buckson Gooch.
