RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil - Action Packed Wrestling Xtreme Champion A.C. Smith was taken to a local hospital Sunday night following his match against Nathaniel Havok, but is reportedly in stable condition Monday morning.
Smith retained his title, but a hospital spokesman said that he was rushed to the ER by APW due to "significant blood loss." He received stitches upon admission to the facility, and was monitored through the night as he slept.
An APW spokesman said Smith is expected to make a full recovery in time for Overdrive next Thursday night. Smith himself released a short statement through the hospital Monday.
"I lost a lot of blood, but I'm doing fine," he said. "I've dealt with much worse, and most importantly, I retained my Xtreme Championship.
"Nathaniel Havok has been dealt with, but there's plenty more trash to clean up in Action Packed Wrestling, and nobody on Overdrive's done that better than the Big Apple Asskicker. I'm looking forward to getting out of the hospital in a couple of days and getting back to work next Thursday night."
Smith also thanked his fans, ones who cheered loudly when he retained the title he'd held since December of 2012. Doctors said he watched a replay of the show Monday morning and had to be calmed down when longtime adversary Logan Alexander was revealed as a new member of The Sindicate.
