"Vengeance is not the point; change is. But the trouble is that in most people's minds the thought of victory and the thought of punishing the enemy coincide." – Barbara Deming
{{The scene opens to an outside shot of Anthony Bailey’s townhouse located in St. Augustine, FL. Spring mornings here in the Sunshine State are unrivaled. The scene then switches to the inside of Bailey’s home as Bailey, along with Jair Hopkins and William D. Williams, is gathering his final items for his flight to Las Vegas. Bailey spent some time this past week in Brooklyn with Hopkins so he wanted Hopkins and Williams to spend the weekend with him at his home before heading out on the road again. Clad in a gray, black, and white Dying Breed T-shirt, dark blue jeans, and a pair of black and white Nike sneakers, Bailey burrows through his toiletries as he tries to decide what he’ll need for Vegas. Hopkins and Williams are nearby also burrowing through Bailey’s belongings, but in a playful brotherly type of way.}}[/color]
J-Hop: Ant…ummm…Jason Collins??
{{Hopkins looks puzzled as he holds up an autographed red, white, and blue Washington Wizards #98 basketball jersey belonging to the NBA’s first openly gay player. Bailey chuckles.}}
Anthony Bailey: Yeah. He sent that about two weeks ago after my little Twitter rant.
About two weeks ago, Bailey received the praises of virtually the entire LGBT community for taking a stance against the controversial comments by “The Evangelist” Jerry Matthews about homosexuals. Bailey wasn’t trying to be a hero for homosexuals or for London Carter, he only believed that speaking out against Matthews’ hostility was the right thing to do.
J-Hop: Oh yeah, that’s right. I forgot that he sent it.
Williams: You also got a free copy of Channel Orange too right?
Anthony Bailey: Yes sir, I sure did.
Williams: If you don’t mind, let me hold it when you get a chance. Frank Ocean is a bad mamma jamma. He’s almost as smooth as The Smooth One.
Channel Orange is the debut studio album of singer/songwriter Frank Ocean that was released during the summer of 2012. Ocean’s open letter to his fans made him one of the first major African American music artists to announce that he had experienced same sex attractions in his life. Ocean also blessed Bailey with a free autographed copy of his album in light of his comments.
Anthony Bailey: I imported it into my Macbook so remind me to burn you a copy on the plane or when we get to Vegas. I don’t want to take the autographed copy out of the house.
Williams: Smart thinking Champ.
J-Hop: Aww, look at what we have here...
{{Hopkins makes things awkward once again as he holds up an old picture of Bailey and his ex girlfriend Tasha, possibly dating back to their high school days because the two look much younger.}}
Anthony Bailey: Oh gosh! You beat me in one game of basketball and you think you have the right to re-awaken some old memories with my ex huh?
{{Bailey, looking abashed, attempts to laugh the whole thing off.}}
Williams: Don’t worry Champ, I wouldn’t sweat it. Not everyone can pull out their pictures from high school and not feel embarrassed. You look like you had a little game back then.
{{Bailey is relieved at The Smooth One’s remarks and gets a slight boost of reassurance.}}
Anthony Bailey: Well, you know…
{{Bailey flexes his masculinity by patting his chest but is suddenly cut off by Williams.}}
Williams: Hey, isn’t that your boy Rob?
{{Williams grabs an old framed picture of Bailey and his childhood friend Rob.}}
Anthony Bailey: He was my boy…
J-Hop: How do you deal with that Ant? Living in the same city as your ex girlfriend and your old best friend? St. Augustine isn’t that big so I’m sure you’ll run into them sooner or later, especially Rob. If I was you and saw him out and about, I’d probably end up in jail for assault and battery. Don’t people know anything about loyalty anymore?
{{Bailey laughs, not at J-Hop’s frustration, but at the situation in general.}}
Anthony Bailey: I’ll let fate deal with Rob; vengeance isn’t the point.
J-Hop: Dag bro, I don’t know how you do it.
Anthony Bailey: Do what?
J-Hop: Keep your composure.
Williams: Yeah seriously…
Anthony Bailey: I try to ignore it and not let it get to me but other times it just gets suppressed and reappears down the line.
{{Bailey finishes up his last statement and zips up his suitcase simultaneously. Looking around his home, he makes sure that he has everything.}}
Well I think that’s it. You fellas ready to roll?
J-Hop: Yup, we can hit the road.
{{Hopkins and Williams help Bailey gather up his luggage. They turn off all of the lights and exiting the townhouse, Bailey locks the door behind him and they all make their way to the driveway. Reaching their destination, they place each of Bailey’s bags inside the trunk of his silver Acura TL. Hopkins and Williams’ luggage is already in the trunk.}}
Anthony Bailey: Hey J, do you mind driving?
J-Hop: Not at all.
Anthony Bailey: Cool…hey Smooth, you can ride shotgun…
{{Williams nods his head as Bailey tosses his car keys to Hopkins and they all get inside of the car. Bailey takes a seat in the back with the cameraman. Hopkins cranks up the ignition and pulls out of the driveway en route of the Jacksonville International Airport. The music is kept low so Bailey’s voice can be audible.}}
Tonight is the occasion for me to stand face to face with Mr. Leon Roberts, and Roberts…allow me to fill you in on something. There has been sort of a stigma when it comes to The Dying Breed’s involvement on Meltdown. And when the Tag Team Titles are incorporated and thrown in the mix, that stigma expands even further. To us, Meltdown was supposed to be the show that allowed J-Hop and I to showcase what we could do as a unit inside of the ring. If Meltdown was to be known as the staple APW show for tag teams, then so be it. The Dying Breed was ready and willing to do whatever it took to prove ourselves as a legitimate tag team. We wanted to put to death the notion that the careers of two singles wrestlers were at a stand still and that they decided that the only way to pick up some momentum around here was by teaming up. That’s so far from the truth.
But was my assessment of the show even valid? Was it supposed to only be about kosher wrestling? I mean after all, I’m an Asylum guy so what do I know anyway? Was Sienna Harrison’s Meltdown only supposed to be the avenue of wrestling purists who wanted to tune in and see some good old-fashioned action on a weekly basis? To be honest, that’s what it was for to me. To the Asylum guy with a limited scope of knowledge, that’s what Meltdown represented in my mind. That’s what it was for both Hopkins and I until a team by the name of M&M entered the picture and defeated us for the Tag Titles back in January. That’s when Meltdown became something else for The Dying Breed. It became something more besides making guys like Buck Dempsey proud of the new generation for learning the fundamentals of the business. It became all about seeking vengeance on our wrongdoers and renovating things back to their rightful place. But as always, vengeance has been pursued and obtained and months later, we’re now on the other side of our little debacle with AJP and Logan Alexander…
This was only partially true due to the fact that Tap Out Champion, Logan Alexander, still possesses some unresolved issues toward Bailey. Alexander blames Bailey for his multiple broken ribs and several bruised internal organs that occurred last month during the Meltdown Super Show in Chile. The two megastars’ encounter on the last episode of Asylum also proves that all scores have yet to be settled amongst the two.
But as soon as I had made the predeveloped assumption that Meltdown had returned to its former glory of being strictly about the sport for me and that I was now able to compete with a clear conscience, you go and throw that all away Leon. And why? Not to mention, the fact that it was Jason Kash of all people who came out of the whole situation looking untouchable infuriated me. This man probably paraded up and down the streets of Houston after Mayhem in tears for accomplishing something that he was unable to do before. But scoring a second win over me right after Mayhem?? Stop the presses because he’s probably in talks with NASA as I speak to book a shuttle to the moon because the earth isn’t big enough to contain his exhilaration. Two back to back wins over Bailey is utopia for Kash.
How could you do that to me though Leon? That second win would have never happened if it wasn’t for you. You had absolutely no business and no right interfering in my match last week against Kash. I’m aware of the stunt that he pulled against you at Overdrive in his hometown of Houston but that matter should stay between you two. Never take matters into your “own” hands, Roberts. Those matters will only end up with you having blood on them. And speaking of bloody hands, last week verified that my blood is on your hands and the hands of Jake Titan as well. If my boy Michael Jennings, who is presumably guilty by association, also wants to toss his name inside of the hat then be my guest.
The Natural Born Killaz have committed their worst crime to date and it was repaying evil for evil by offending The Promise. The Dying Breed has been the harbingers of justice since our inception, but even what or what is not lawful has a cost. There were ramifications after my regrettable actions towards Sally Talfourd and Phil Atken last year; ramifications that were imperative. There is no getting away with emerging onto Asylum’s ramp and distracting me. Whether it was intentional or not is beside the point at this present moment. You probably thought that The Dying Breed’s easygoing and meek personalities would overlook such triviality and turn a blind eye...
{{Bailey shortly gazes out of the window for a moment before refocusing his attention on the camera.}}
That is what is expected of us a lot of the times but to turn a blind eye to this behavior would be going against what we stand for. Turning a blind eye would be unjust. I was determined to defeat Kash and advance in the Test For The Best tournament but you robbed me of that chance and tonight we will give you what you have rightfully merited. But as much as I have emphasized retribution, everything in me is trying to not even make vengeance the point. Just like my old friend Rob when he decided to align with Kash and throw away years and years of friendship. If anything integrity is the point, not vengeance. What do I know about real life or the struggle? Well what do YOU know about fighting fair? Why is that you continue to make an outright mockery of my personal life, Roberts?
My life or my upbringing is of no concern to you. Interfering the way you did was pretty low, possibly even lower than anything Kash could ever contrive. Descending to the depths of Hades wouldn’t even bring you down to the level of The Virus. Personal life aside, I really don’t know you but I knew what you had in you. I’ve seen your type before so I knew that you had the capacity to greatly offend others. I’ve never desired the career path of a police officer or a detective, but it’s obvious that people don’t go around looking to shoot well meaning people fourteen times. Crime happens in this country each and every day and not to make light of your near death experience, but you apparently made someone very upset that night.
So me failing to beat that “rodent” you call Kash and you antagonizing it was nothing to you because you knew that I wouldn’t threaten your life. Thanks to you I didn’t get the job done against Kash in Lafayette, but tonight in Las Vegas will be a different story. Another opportunity to show the good people of APW who one of its premier tag teams are. Later tonight in Sin City, the sins of NBK will be paid for. But I will give you credit for one thing, Roberts. You caught me slipping and you were one step ahead of me. I guess that “street smarts” that you hold onto so dearly does actually come in handy huh? I am man enough to admit that you swindled me as you looked directly into my eyes from outside of the ring before Kash suddenly pinned me.
Oh and Titan, no offense but keep your little sliver of respect because I don’t want any of it unless I have it in its entirety. And it’s quite ironic how you of all people acknowledged the fact that I have remained true to myself despite the toil and tussle of this industry. We live in a world where authenticity can easily be fabricated so I aim to be counter cultural and give the fans what is factual. But if you can only respect what is legitimate to a certain extent, then the component where the problem lies is not with the other individual…it’s with you. And for your information Titan, tonight’s showdown isn’t the set of a movie or a television show…this is real life. There will be no director to yell cut and there won’t be any deleted scenes that end up on DVD. What you see tonight from The Dying Breed is what you get.
You outsmarted me outside of the ring Roberts but inside the ring, where it counts the most in this business, will be an entirely different story. And tonight I’m not traveling alone…I brought some help with me. And my partner was right in referring to you both as hungry wolves. Wolves are wild animals that survive by hunting and consuming other animals. Though wolves are intelligent and express keen social behavior, wolves are not the kings of the wild. I’m expecting tonight to be nothing less of a ferocious match. Each contender that we’ve had for our Titles have given us immense fights, especially M&M. To the naysayers who are still dwelling in the past and think that the APW tag team division is dead, believe me when I tell you that it’s alive and well. NBK might know about me from the outside looking in, but there’s way more to me than a college degree or being raised in upper middle class America. I am not who you think I am, but I am Anthony Bailey…APW’s only Promise…the only Promise that can't be broken not by Leon “50 Cent” Roberts or Jake “C-List Actor” Titan. Until tonight in Sin City…
