(word bubble)> {thought bubble}
Two weeks ago-somewhere in Chicago
Panel one: The small dingy kitchen of a one room apartment. dirty tan and white checkerboard floor tiling. some of the tiles have faded into one ugly brown color. The stove is tiny, waist high on a normal sized man. It is likewise unsightly. It's phony steel casing has chips in the plastic. The sink is overflowing with dishes.
Panel two: The back of an old dirty recliner. Shaggy and faded with dirt marks and stains. Next to it is a nigght stand with a tv diner and bud lite resting on top. We see the back of a mans head as he sits. Steam rising from the tv diner next to him. His hair line is thin. An ever growing horseshoe.
split panel: we see the television on one channel for a moment. The news. it changes channels. now the weather. Channel changes a third time. An old syndicated episode of the simpsons.
panel three: ring-ring The phone is ringing, it's cordless and in his lap. The caller ID reads "chuck". He answers the phone.
(Man)> It's been a long time since I got a phone call from you.
(Caller)> We've been lucky enough not to need to stay in contact old friend. Now we have a bit of a situation.
(Man)> One of those types of situations?
(Caller)> well, no not yet. With your help we can stop it from getting that far, but there is something that needs our attention.
You near a television by chance?
(Man)> Yeah.
(Caller)> Change it t channel sixty six.
splash panel: The television again. Now on Action Packed Wrestling: Monday Night Meltdown. On screen is The Emerald Assassin fighting the Red Scorpion.
(Man)> Wrestling? I am a little unclear just what this is about.
(Caller)> The one in the green goes by the name of The Green Assassin. He's the good guy so far as I can tell. The one in the Red calls himself the The red Scorpion. Now he's the bad guy.
(Man)> I know how professional wrestling works, so what does this have to do with us exactly?
(Caller)> If you pay attention you'll see that the green one claims to be a super hero, and the red one is a supervillain.
(Man)> I think you're losing it. You didn't just call me about a wrestling match with a couple a gimmick wrestlers.
(Caller)> well, see we looked into it. although they are few and far between there are reports circulating around the globe of a masked vigilante.
(Man)> Happens from time to time, people see one to many movies and suddenly they wanna be superheros. There are ton's of copycats.
(Caller)> Preaching to the quire, but these are legit stories. From suspects captured by the guy and left for the police to find. They all described the same guy. A guy who matches the description of that green super hero wrestling the red supervillain on the wrestling program. And here's the kicker, all of these suspects were caught in the days leading up to when they broadcast their shows. He's going on the hunt while he's in town for his matches.
(man)> You don't say.
(Caller)> It's wild. after all of these years of us staying hidden within the shadows, suddenly two new guys show up from both sides of the fight and they are chasing each other down on national television. It's dangerous. I don't think wither of them now the truth, or are connected in any way, but we aren't certain.
(Man)> What do you need me to do? Head over and shut this fella down?
(Caller)> Not quite yet. Keep an eye on him. We don't know much about either of them, but so far as we can tell the Red scorpion lives at home, like a real joke, but he has access to some pretty heavy equipment. And if this Emerald assassin fellas keeping him at bay. Then we may need him. Make contact with him as soon as possible and make sure he understands the implications of his actions.
(Man)> Understood. I will make haste.
(Caller)> I hope you don't have any cob webs. This seems so cut and dry simple, but I got a feeling. A bad one. That this is going to get big.
(Man). yes sir.
Panel four: He stands up from his chair, we see him from the chest down as he puts on his long tan trench coat and fedora. The fedora shades his face.
Panel five: The faceless man steps out of his apartment.
Present Day-Somewhere in Arizona
Panel six: Danny Green, Peter Eastman and the object of Danny's affection Stacey have just gotten off of their plane. They are in the airport waiting for their bags. It is busy, with a hefty assortment of minorities. The TSA are giving an arab man trouble, demanding him to step aside.
(Stacey)> I can't believe they are giving that poor man crap. Hello, the flight's over. if he was going to blow us up he would have done it already. people make me sick.
(Peter)> yeah, I know. You're right. I kind of like the protection though. I feel safer knowing that the security team have no problem racially profiling.
(Stacey)> You're an ass.
(Peter)> I mean that in a good way, like they aren't bothered by possible lawsuits or anything. So clearly they are just going to call anyone out who looks suspicious. I wasn't being racist.
{They are chasing after the wrong guy.}
(Danny)> No she's right. Profiling only allows the real villains to get through.
Panel six: Danny is looking around, like a hound on the hunt. Peter catches on. As Danny appears to be looking for a place to hide quick enough to remove his out layers and don the mask of the Emerald Assassin.
Panel seven: A man in hefty Peacoat, sunglasses and beanie walks by and bumps into Stacey.
(Stacey)> Watch it jerk.
(Jerk)> Sorry lady.
Panel seven: He grabs something from the luggage cart and takes off running. Danny no longer waits for an opportunity to change, and runs after the man.
Panel eight: They force their way through the crowd bumping and knocking down pedestrians as they do it. The security team finally realize there is a situation and join in chasing both of them down.
Panel nine: Danny reaches into his trousers and grabs a few items from his utility belt. As the perp makes it to the final gate Danny throws a green boomerang that sweeps the mans legs. Before he can grab it the security officers are on top of the both of them.
(Danny)> Hey get off of me man. get off. I am helping. That's the bad guy, that's the thief.
Panel ten: Peter and Stacey catch up and see both Danny and the perp being taken away cuffed.
(Stacey)> hey that's our friend, stop, he helped you!.
Panel eleven: Peter notices the utility belt and a patch of green suit poking through Danny's waistline.
(Peter)> Oh no. this is bad. this is really bad.
Panel twelve: Danny is sitting handcuffed to a steel table in an interrogation room. A two way mirror in the opposite end. The door opens and a man in a trench cat and fedora walks into the room.
(Danny)> Look, this is a misunderstanding. I was just helping. The guy was clearly up to something. You're workers were racially profiling some guy and didn't even pay attention to the schmuck in navy gear in Arizona!
(Man)> The man you chased down. Hadn't stolen anything. The package he grabbed was intended for him.
(Danny)> Then Why take off like a bat out of hell? He had to have been up to something.
(Man)> it was a shipment from a drug cartel in Mexico. He got scared and took off. Otherwise he would have gotten away, and spread 50lbs of cocaine into the neighborhood.
Panel Thirteen: The man pulls the green boomerang out of his pocket and tosses it onto the steel table.
(Man)> You wanna explain that?
(Danny)> That's just something I carry. A legal weapon for protection.
(Man)> Really? I...guess that excuse was quick enough. Most people probably wouldn't catch on to that lie. assuming they haven't already seen the suit poking out of your waist line.
{son of ableep}
(Danny)> I don't know what you're talking about.
(Man)> well, now that one you failed pretty miserably. Always have an answer Danny...Or should I call you the Emerald Assassin.
(Danny)> Why would you call me that? Well, my name is Danny, but I don't get the Emerald Assassin nonsense.
(Man)> Let's get something straight. Danny, because we are very short on time. I am not a member of security. I do not work here and cannot stay long. I came here to help you escape. Under normal circumstance they would search you, thank you and let you go. However this is an extra special circumstance as when they search you they are going to find a suit, and weapons on your person. You will be locked up as a terrorist and you will be forced to admit your secret. So Danny, admit to me that you are the Emerald Assassin, that I have indeed found the right guy, and I will help you get out of here. The cameras are temporarily shut off and there are no guards behind that mirror this is your only chance and you're running out of time.
(Danny)> Oh man this is heavy.
(Man)> beyond.
(Danny)> Ok, ok ok...Look man. I am The Emerald Assassin. And I will be doing no one any favors if I am locked up get me outta here.
(Man)> Nice to meet you Emerald Assassin. You're chariot awaits.
Panel fourteen: The man walks over and picks the locks on the hand cuffs. Danny retrieves the boomerang. The man pinches Danny's neck while he is off guard and Danny passes out.
Somewhere unknown
Panel fifteen: Danny wakes up on a rooftop of a building in the business district. It is the dead of night. The Man is perched next to a gargoyle decoration looking over the city.
(Danny)> What happened? Where am I?
(Man)> We are a few miles away from the air port. Your friends have been notified that you will be released soon. They are waiting for your arrival at the hotel.
(Danny)> Who are you?
(Man)> Spectre, the names spectre.
Panel six teen: he turns around and Danny realizes he is wearing a mask under the fedora and the trench coat, now blowing in the wind was hiding a superhero costume riddled with crime fighting accessories.
(spectre)> Listen to me Danny. You have stumbled upon something much bigger than you ever imagined. You are not the first superhero to stop crime in real life. far from it actually. It's been a practice for decades. The reason, that you have only heard of it in pop culture is because there is a network. think of it as a super hero U.N. that controls us.
Keeps the press under wraps. We exist and villains do too, though nowadays they usually have been politicians, spies. and terrorists. People that the news would report anyway.
You're an approved hero. Your actions have created a ripple effect and the network is very concerned. Lucky for you, you happened to sprout up during a very interesting time period. People like the Red Scorpion and Mr. Enigma have also appeared. We are unsure what to make of them, and do not have much to go by. Instead of infiltrating the APW we have decided to allow you to continue with your charade for now.
But you need to be careful and cover your tracks. We know you have a friend. Peter Eastman who assists in your crime fighting. You will debrief him on this conversation. The both of you must understand that careless mistakes like the one you made today can cause an upheaval in the network. You're putting many lives at risk, of heroes and the citizens we protect by being so careless.
I will check in with you often. Occasionally you will join me on missions. I would congratulate you, if I didn't know better. This is not a glamorous lifestyle and you have only scratched the tip of your ass so far.
We see the Red Scorpion as a threat in the same capacity. If he is able to continue with his antics it may cause the same upheaval, not to mention he could be dangerous to innocent people.
So now, it is up to you to stop him. As it turns out we got lucky, that you all happened to show up in a wrestling organization because it gives us perfect cover.
You will continue wrestling, and crime fighting. You will not jeopardize your cover, and that means going along with any match that you are put in.
No one can suspect that you're carrying on any affairs outside of the ring. I will be in touch.
Splash Panel: A crack of thunder, a flash of lightning. And the Spectre is gone.
later that night.
Caption: Danny is now resting in his hotel. Peter was completely confused by the story, but is anxious and excited at the notion that they were actually part of something bigger. Stacey is sleeping in the room next to them and danny's thoughts are more about her than the admission that superheros not only exist, but are way more common than he had imagined. Now with this task given to him by the spectre he must focus on his job.
My name is The Emerald Assassin. And I am here to help. fate has led me to this place, and that;s not something I believed in until now.
As my arrival was met by The Res Scorpion. The yin to my yang. A man who casts a pale red shade of evil all over this company. It was not a mere coincidence that we came to this place.
And though he and I are on separate parts of the card once again, I will be on alert. I will protect anyone he puts in danger.
Though he will be in the back of my mind I have another concern. It seems my psychotic tag team partner last week will be in my corner.
He had choice words and threatened to eat my head. I'd like to see a man that size digest a fully grown human head, and see who's left standing.
Though I digress...FATE has landed me in between envi and Jennings. And though I have no true hand to win in this battle. Jennings has quite a lot to lose.
I was chosen because I have shown promise, strength and dedication. I am the underdog rookie that everyone is cheering for and the people in the back have taken notice.
Michael Jennings is a big player. And a victory this week will cement The Emerald Assassin as a true contender and warrior.
I am guided by a force much larger than myself, Delikado or the NBK'z/ I am guided by truth, justice and the American way. I have a morale obligation to fight for those who cannot defend themselves
Envi is unable to compete and has seen something in me. He has elected me for this task, and this is an opportunity that will not come again. For the the future of my career I have to defeat you.
Jennings you aren't just getting into the ring with that superhero character. You aren't getting into the ring with that new guy on Meltdown who dresses like a comic book character.
You're stepping into the ring with a man pure of heart and has the iron will of a spartan and the abilities of a ninja. And though you may think that you have bigger fish to fry with Envi, well I am here to tell you, that The Emerald Assassin is the only person you need to worry about. Forget about being the number one contender, because this Monday none of that matters.
because I am going to expose you for the untalented hack that you are. And everyone watching from your brand will have their jaws drop as my arm is raised the victor.
It is my duty, but this week it will be my privilege to do something that the great Evan hasn't been able to do. And that is punish the wicked that runs through your bones.
Even if I have to break every one of them.
I am The Emerald Assassin...
