Wyatt Crash sat on the edge of his weight bench, breathing quickly after finishing his last set of reps. On the average sized television in front of him, what appeared to be a video podcast was playing back. A portly man with a round goatee, sporting a black polo was talking enthusiastically. The program seemed to be barely capturing any of Wyatt’s attention. It was clear that he was only half listening to what the man was saying. Wyatt rolled his neck back and forth a few times before hearing his name dropped on the podcast. This was the first time he had been brought up on this sort of coverage in quite sometime.
“…and now for a review of a match I know we all saw on the last taping of Action Packed Wrestling’s Meltdown. One of the federation’s newest stars named Wyatt Crash made his debut against a returning wrestler known as Yanzel Holmes. As we all know, the week before Holmes took on one of the members of Sang Real, and was only given a taste of what was coming his way. Wyatt Crash had the opportunity to make an impact with this debut in his own hometown of Phoenix, Arizona. And, well, he certainly did do that.
Crash dominated the former policeman, forcing him to tap out at the fate of his brutal finisher, ‘The Low Card’. That’s the short story, now here is the full deal. Here is what impressed me, John Rykin, about this young man. Here is a wrestler who used his size to his advantage. Crash truly took advantage of his lower center of gravity by combining irish whips with moves like the belly to belly suplex. These vicious combos combined with his quick submissions turned out to be a quick recipe for disaster. Now I have to tell you, when I heard his interview a few weeks back on Four Ropes Live, I was only slightly impressed with this young man’s mic abilities.
But, hey, who knows? Maybe this guy is the next big thing. After the match, one of APW’s most notorious tag teams known as ‘Sang Real’ decided to turn up the heat. Hijacking the announce table wasn’t enough for these two. Connor Murphy decided to smash a lap top off the side of the head of the recently downed, Yanzel Holmes. Now I am not saying Crash could have done much to prevent this ridiculous assault but it would have been nice to see him take a few swings at Murphy. From what we overheard here at Wrestle Jabber, that moment might be coming soon to your television.
I’ve got to be honest, I would love to see that match. The only question is this, would it be a handicap match for Wyatt? Or would he have a partner? Let’s find out. But first, this week on the Meltdown SuperShow, Wyatt Crash will be teaming with someone not involved in this potential feud, Mr. Enigma. Together, Crash and Enigma will take on ‘The Black Hand’. Sounds scary, doesn’t it? Well, maybe Crash and Enigma will prove otherwise. My bet says that they will. Now let’s talk about something else. How about Amy Zing and Young Mannie…” John continued on about the SuperShow.
Crash half-grinned as he started to pay less attention to the program. This coverage was exciting to him, it might have been just what he needed to give himself a little bit of a boost before his match at the SuperShow. Laying back on the bench, Wyatt placed his hands up on the bar, evenly spread apart.
Lifting the iron bar, he began to do a few reps. He had been working out vigorously all afternoon. Working out was one of Wyatt’s major passions, and over the years he had developed a strict program for himself. Agility training, strength training, and his own form of training his ability to concentrate under pressure.
As Wyatt pumped out rep after rep, his mind was constantly turning between focusing on his form and ability, to his match at the SuperShow. He was incredibly excited to be participating in the event, and he had made sure to put in the extra work that was necessary in order to show the management that their decision was worth it. Wyatt racked the bar and adjusted his gym shorts before sitting up to take a few breaths.
“One match down, and one win by submission already under my belt. Not too bad. That match was far too easy though, I am looking for some serious competition. I didn’t sign a contract with APW in order to take on opponents that should be back in the lesser independent promotions where I just came from. I am looking to wrestle someone with the same exact athletic ability, if not better than mine. In order to bring my career to the level that I want to, I need to be able to face opponents that can beat me down just as hard as I beat them down.
Last week just didn’t cut it for me. As pleased as I was to debut in my hometown of Phoenix, I don’t believe I gave the fans exactly what they deserved. The wrestling fans, particularly the brilliant fans of APW, do not deserve to be given mediocre matches. What they deserve is exactly what the federation calls itself. Action packed wrestling. This week, I will apologize to the wrestling world. I will apologize to the wrestling world by giving them a match that they will always remember.
I can only hope that Mr. Enigma is going to bring his ‘A’ game the same as I plan to do. Unfortunately, even ‘The Black Hand’ doesn’t quite seem to be the level of competition that I am looking to go up against. The alleged ‘Nightmare’ and ‘Madman’ are not what I label as true competitors. These individuals have proven to be untruthful members of Action packed Wrestling’s roster. When they step into the ring with me, I will out them for the liars that they are. I will expose their half-truths.”
Sweat dripped down through Wyatt’s tangled beard. His thoughts were densely filled with his own intensity. Wyatt began to break down the weights on either side of the bar. His next exercise would be dead lifts, a reoccurring favorite of his. After setting up the bar on the ground, Wyatt began to adjust his weight belt.
Wyatt saw lifting as something that was equally as competitive as wrestling. The only difference was that you were solely up against yourself. That was the part he enjoyed the most. No matter what, it was always going to be Wyatt up against Wyatt when he was lifting. After exhaling deeply and adjusting his feet under the bar, Wyatt bent down and began to go forward with his dead lifts.
“Chris Madison, a man who has wrestled in Japan, like myself. A man who unfortunately has way too high of an opinion of himself. It is untruthful attitudes such as this, that will continuously get you in trouble in life. If a person allows pride to get in the way of their own reality, only more and more problems will arise. I hope to represent truth in APW. Truth that takes over those who do not follow the same positive path I choose to, and exposes them for what they really are.
When the bell rings and Madison is put up against the truth that he neglects to face, the real honest and hardworking reality will finally set in for him. I have been to Japan, too. I have wrestled up through the ranks and made it to the same level that Madison has. This SuperShow will become the difference maker. I fully intend on surpassing the level that Madison and I both stand at. It’s funny to me how some of these false athletes manage to weasel their way into professional wrestling. Just like his partner, this ‘Nightmare’.
The only ‘Nightmares’ that are going to around APW after this SuperShow, are the nightmares that Niobe is going to have of me. She is a person who portrays this punk rock image but can’t seem to back that attitude up. I have spent the majority of my life supporting hardcore punk and backing up the lifestyle that represents it. One of the most irritable situations I have to deal with from time to time is putting up with people who claim the punk image but don’t represent it correctly.
It seems that false representation is the underlying theme of this tag-team, doesn’t it? Take their name for example. ‘The Black Hand’. I wonder if these fools even understand what that name represents. They might have overheard it while sitting down in sophomore year’s history class. After all, ‘The Black Hand’ has been used to name several extreme political groups and even has been used to name mafia tactics. Man, they truly are confused, those two. Seems as if they don’t really care about accurately representing themselves.
No worries, this week they won’t have to worry about doing that. I plan on helping them out. It’s true, I really do want to help them. They need someone to show them what they are all about. The fans know it, I know it, but they don’t. I guess sometimes that is just the way it is. Lucky enough for them, they have me to help out. I just hope they are ready for the kind of help I plan on bringing to the ring. Come SuperShow… The Technical Train… rides again.”
Finishing his dead lifts, Wyatt sat back down on the bench immediately behind him. He reached over for his green gatorade bottle and took a few long sips. As he began to wipe his face with a small white towel, his iPhone began to ring loudly.
Wyatt reached down and picked it up before looking at the screen. It was his dear friend Evan. Wyatt hadn’t heard from Evan in quite sometime. He had been living in Washington state for the past few years but had kept up with Wyatt’s career by following all the blogs, podcasts, and television programs that he possibly could.
Wyatt flipped opened the cell phone after letting it ring a few times while he caught his breath. Meanwhile, on the other end, Evan sat on his living room sofa as he watched one of his favorite wrestling programs. He just had to call Wyatt and talk to him about what he just overheard.
“Hey! Evan, my man! What’s going on, brother? Long time no talk. I hope you saw my match last week on Meltdown. I am really loving this place so far.”
“Damn, brother, it is good to hear your voice. Hopefully I am not interrupting your training. You see, I just had to call and tell you about what I just heard on TV.”
“Oh, yeah? What’s that?”
“You’re never going to believe it but those Sang Real dudes have been trash talking you pretty hard on air. Seems like you might have pissed them off a bit by helping out Yanzel after the match. Figured you would want to know about this.”
Wyatt couldn't believe his ears. He thought that the podcast he was watching earlier was only trying to stir up trouble by fabricating that situation. Wyatt never really trusted journalists but his best friend, that was someone he could believe.
“They have? What have those two been saying about me? Wait a second, why do I even care, Evan? If they want to trash talk and play their game, let them. I’ll confront them about it if I get the chance.”
Evan smiled, knowing that he may have just inspired a match he had always wanted to see. He was taking advantage of Wyatt consistent competitive edge.
“They said they want a match, Wyatt…”
“Oh, so it’s that serious. Let’s see what we can do about that, then.”
Wyatt and Evan continued to chat away on the phone. This news had grabbed Wyatt’s attention. He couldn’t worry about that now, though. First, he had to take care of the Black Hand, and that was exactly what he intended on doing.
