( I wanted to put this in T4TB but didn't get it done it time. There were a few issues. Then I wanted it on the Super Show, and again there were some issues. I'm going to start posting the thread anyways on news and rumors, so since I have it done and thanks to the people who helped out with character info.)
Jace: Ladies and Gentlemen, I have called this meeting to reveal the project I've been working on. As C.E.O of Savage Media I present to you the Meltdown Magazine. We will be printing new issues every two-weeks.
The Guvnor: The Man to Beat
Lenny Arthur Lansbury (born August 31st 1982), better known by his ring name The Guv'nor, is a professional wrestler presently contracted to Action Packed Wrestling (APW) where he currently holds the North American Championship on APW's 'Meltdown' brand.
Born and bred in what is now the London Borough of Hackney, Lansbury was taught all he knows by the streets of the East End of the English capital. His parents separated when he was four years old, and details of his subsequent relationship with his father are unknown, although it is believed he suffered some physical abuse at the hands of a stepfather.
Having left school at 16 without any qualifications, Lansbury worked as a street market trader for many years, often utilising his birth-given talent for brawling to moonlight as a bare-knuckled boxer, as well as pulling odd-jobs for local mobsters.
At the age of 19 Lansbury began his career as a professional wrestler, working the UK independent circuit. However, his relationship with the top promoters in the UK soured and Lansbury found himself black-listed and ostracized for being difficult to work with less than eighteen months into his career.
After a failed turn at MMA, Lansbury returned to arena of his greatest sporting success: illegal, bare-knuckle boxing. Courted by the notorious London criminal boss Frank Friday, Lansbury fought an incredible career over six years during which he went unbeaten, and was only knocked down twice; a fact made all the impressive by statistics that claim Lansbury had over 200 fights in this period.
Lanbsury made his in-ring debut as The Guv'nor in APW's 2013 Survive & Conquer match, an inter-promotional match involving a record-breaking 100 competitors. Despite entering 99, The Guv'nor didn't make the impact hoped for, lasting just 10 minutes in the match before being eliminated by Rex Evans and finishing in 12th place.
Several days after Survive & Conquer APW announced on their news feed that The Guv'nor would sign to their Meltdown developmental brand.
The Guv'nor made his Meltdown debut on 11th February in a fatal 4-way match involving Warren Peace, Donald Deruty and Trevor Hyatt. During the match The Guv'nor would be thrown out for taking a chair to his opponents, thereby ending his debut in ignominy.
Over the next few weeks The Guv'nor would begin a brief confrontation with Nathaniel Havok. They met in matches on three consecutive broadcasts of Meltdown - Guv'nor (w/ Mr. Dangerous - an enhancement talent) defeating Havok and Robina Hood in a tag team match; Guv'nor pinning Havok in a singles match in his first US televised main event; Guv'nor (w/ Warren Peace - then APW North American Champion) defeating Havok and Kevin Dahlia - as well as at Rasslemania IX as part of an eight-person ladder match for the APW North American Championship: a match in which The Guv'nor came out as winner. The rivalry with Havok ended on the April 1st edition of Meltdown, when it was announced that Havok would draft to the Overdrive brand.
Following Rasslemania IX The Guv'nor would turn his attention to defending his North American Championship reign, as well as developing a feud with Meltdown's General Manager, Sienna Harrison - who considered The Guv'nor to be her least favourite megastar, and a hindrance to her perfect megastar, Robina Hood.
After two months of back and forth, and a series of crowbar attacks by Robina Hood, Guv'nor defended the North American Championship against Hood in a steel cage match at Mayhem. After a brutal and bloody match went to a re-start (after both wrestlers hit the floor at the same time), a dangerous tussle on the outside wall of the cage ended with The Guv'nor dropping to the floor to retain the title and end the bitter feud victorious.
The night following Mayhem saw a number of Meltdown megastars drafted to Overdrive and Asylum. As the reigning North American Champion, The Guv'nor was expected to be the #1 pick. However, in closing the show The Guv'nor announced he would visit Overdrive and Asylum before making a decision, setting himself a two week deadline to announce his decision. When the deadline was reached The Guv'nor shocked the world by announcing he had negotiated a deal with APW's upper management to remain a Meltdown megastar, much to Sienna's chagrin.
Sienna set her sights on undoing The Guv'nor, first setting him against long-time rival Robina Hood in a Test For The Best qualifier (which The Guv'nor lost, the first time he was pinned in APW), then in a four-person 30-minute North American Championship Scramble match Sienna hoped The Guv'nor would be undone, but he prevailed against Robina Hood, Niobe Martin & Jace Savage (pinning Robina in the final moments).
In desperation Sienna struck a deal with Foul Play (Jason Kash, Reaver & Michael Lively) to attack The Guv'nor backstage and take the title into Sienna's possession. As the June 10th edition of Meltdown closed with Sienna hacking away The Guv'nor's name plate the destiny of his reign remained unclear.
The following week Sienna offered The Guv'nor a chance to reclaim the title, but he had to sign a contract that put his APW career at jeopardy, premised as it was solely on The Guv'nor remaining North American Champion (the alternative was a secure deal that came with the condition to drop the title and renounce any future right to a title challenge). The Guv'nor signed the match-by-match contract and regained his title, but then Sienna's latest play became apparent: bringing back the unpredictable and violent APW veteran Victor Hades, granting him a shot at The Guv'nor and the North American Championship at the Test For The Best pay-per-view.
The Return of Victor Hades: A blood soaked retribution
Victor Hades originated from the West end of Los Angeles, shortly after dropping out of college Victor almost immediately turned to crime and violence. Aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, destruction of property, assaulting an offier of the law, and even at times charged with murder. Victor Hades spent many of his early years in and out of prison, meanwhile the only known details of Victor Hades life come from the words of the man himself.
"I was approached by a priest who was being brought in as a witness to testify against me for a murder that would have put me away for life. I was being charged for murder in self-defense against a local gang and their families were pressing charges. Who would have thought that priest was the very man who told the judge, jury, and entire court room that I was not guilty. Would you believe this shit?" Hades stated the man covered for Hades in exchange for employment to service the priest's church, but Hades would soon in months to come discover this was no ordinary church.
"They were like cannibals, except they fed on violence against mankind!" Hades admitted, stating this church was a cultist extremist church promoting violence and hatred towards anyone they believed "not worthy of existance". Hades explained, "Father Redstone taught me how to turn emotions like fear and hate into useful weapons, and how to turn something such as pain and fuel it into motivation!" Hades went on to explain this "Father Redstone" is the man responsible for making Hades a "better man" and showing him the true face of reality.
"It was he who turned me to professional wrestling, where violence is broadcasted around the world, and what better way to send that message. Hades signed a contract with the EWC and became an undefeated path of destruction for two months. Until, a man under the ring name "Psycho Assassin" on EWC's Monday Night Brawl burned Father Redstone alive in a segment to seek vengeance against Hades. "My life and my career took a turn that day that would change me forever".
Hades would go on to become EWC United States champiom on two-reigning occasions and a very well-known superstar. "After EWC shut their doors, I knew I was still hungry and still wanting to send that message around the world. Not just for Redstone, but to rip people's eyes open by the skin of their eyelids and show them a new style of violence in Professional Wrestling. So I signed with APW, and from that day forward I became known as "The Innovator of Agony". Hades continued to explain his start in APW from his early reign as the Xtreme Champion to winning Survive and Conquer 2010, which was the very first in APW.
"Nobody had ever done that before, NOBODY... and it was that moment I knew I had done something I had set out to do." Hades also explained how his personal rivalry with former EWC and APW star Jesse Nunez came to be, "that night after Survive and Conquer-I had one goal on mind: End Jesse Nunez's career. So after a few months of feuding, I knew it was time to put it to an end. Hades recalls their barbed-wire casket match, "I told him-I WARNED him, that if he didnt end his career I would do it for him." Hades explains using Nunez's pregnant wife as a human shield before throwing her off the stage through a table of electrical equipment and power boxes.
Jesse Nunez distracted in horror and disbelief allowed Hades the opportunity to hit Nunez with the Closed Casket twenty-feet off the stage into the barbed-wire casket below. Weeks following the destructive and horrifying end to their rivalry, Jesse Nunez and his wife struggling with not only the loss of his career, but the loss of their unborn child as well. Stacey Nunez had suffered several third-degree burns, a fracture right elbow, and a cracked ribcage. "I felt nothing but satisfaction, satisfaction I ended that man's career and he was out of my way", Hades commented.
Months after the bitter rivalry, Hades went on to win the APW International championship on two notable occassions and several memorable matches. In late 2010, Hades had been called to court on four seperate charges of aggravated assault, resisting arrest, and assaulting a woman, and attempted murder. Controversy struck all throughout the wrestling industry over the incident, and Victor Hades was sentenced to three-years in a high-level secured psychiatric asylum.
"Now I'm back, and I'm going to make anyone in my way suffer the way I suffered", Hades added in final words. "I'm going to leave one bloody mess of bodies in my path, and I'm coming back to leave a crater in APW the likes of which no one has ever seen...EVER."
In whats set to be one of the most anticipated matches Victor Hades returns to take on The Guvnor, for the North American Championship. Guv'nor came out on top to retain his championship. Who is next to challenge him?
I became a wrestling journalist because it combined my two passions in life. Writing, and professional wrestling. I remember being a little boy, around age four or five and watching wrestling with my dad. He would chuckle at their antics and speak highly of the glory days. Before the face paint, tassels, 80's rock band ring attire and over the top antics. My father wouldn't spend many more years watching the product I adored as a child.
Though because of him I found a source of entertainment that my love of has grown every day, stronger as I have aged. Now I can admit that when I sit with my son and watch wrestling with my son, that I have some of the same complaints my father had when watching with me.
Perhaps it's just Nostalgia, but I do miss the days of over the top cartoon characters beating each other up inside the ring. Thanks to the over the top violence and sex in multimedia in the '90s, and the rise of mixed martial arts professional wrestling has found itself in a state of stagnancy.
Everyone is a carbon copy of a mma create a fighter feature in a video game. They are super serious and frankly it just isn't as fun as it used to be. The market is saturated of course with many federations who all present themselves as the best. Though, to the educated fan, Action Packed Wrestling is THE place to be for professional wrestling.
As if the main shows of Overdrive and Asylum aren't packed with enough action to melt your brain they also have another brand. An entry level competition that is used in order to gauge the talent of new signees and offers just the same amount of action, excitement and entertainment as it's programs.
Most talent are drafted after proving themselves to the main brand f their choice, but there are those who have stayed with the brand in hpes of solidifying its reputation, and new coming talent who want the Meltdown brand to be seen as an equal. Those men, the old guard like The Guv'Nor, and the blood like Jace Savage are constantly generating must see drama every week.
However they aren't the only ones. If you're like me, and you miss the days of rockin' wrestling out of this world cartoon characters than you've probably taken notice of the superhero The Emerald Assassin. Not much is known of this man, who shields his identity with a mask, but based on what we have seen of the wrestler he is everything we have been waiting for.
a flashy entrance, an intricate costume and gimmick. He wears a mask adding mystic and intrigue to his in ring aura and performances. Adding fast paced move sets and an honorable cause than you sure have the type of babyface hero from our childhoods.
He's had only about a month or so experience and a few losses to go with it, though he has captured the attention of many, including big named like Evan Envi and Delikkado who picked him personally to join them in tag action a few a weeks ago.
since then he has gone on to defeat The red Scorpion, his arch nemesis. His future is as mysterious as the man who wears the mask, but one things for sure. He is quickly joining the ranks of performers who have made Meltdown a brand in and of itself and and must see television, that this reporter makes time for.
Shadow has been in the business a long time. Debuting during the golden age of global wrestling Shadow has traveled all over the world working for multiple prestigious and famed wrestling federations. It was last year that things changed. A little over a year ago Shadow found out the A.K.A. were being inducted into the APW Hall of Fame.
He felt the urge to fight again. He convinced his tag partner, the notorious Slade Craven, to come back. But while Slade was looking forward to a great return to tag team action, Shadow had other plans.
After two months back Shadow told Slade he wanted a transfer to Meltdown. While Shadow thanked Slade for everything "The Main Man" had done for him over the past decade, Shadow wanted to carve his own path.
Slade did not take the news well and felt betrayed. He plotted an intricate plan to bury Shadow forever for being greedy.
Meanwhile, Shadow began to forge his own way on Meltdown. People began to remember his name again. It wasn't long before Shadow crossed paths with Evan Envi. These altercations were the first shots to what would be a brutal war between the two. After October 2012 Shadow was drafted back to Overdrive and before long Slade unleashed his revenge plot on Shadow. This culminated with a Buried Alive match at Rasslemania IX. Slade had not been seen since.
However despite gaining popularity over the past year, Overdrive GM Alexander Duvall was displeased with the ratings Shadow was getting television. He didn't like how people were tuning in for a relic like Shadow.
Duvall began suppressing Shadow until the big man exploded on camera. But Duvall couldn't outright fire Shadow, so he put the Texas Tornado to the test.
All he had to do was pin Jake Titan. And after a tremendous and hard fought victory Shadow was robbed of his Overdrive slot by Leon Roberts. Shadow beat Titan, but he didn't pin Titan. Because of that Shadow was going back to Meltdown.
Still, Shadow was upbeat. Considering the time he spent on Meltdown the be the most fun he'd had in his career. He couldn't wait to go back.
