Dammit I hate java bullshit so Im going to probably post in segments cause it erased what I had started. ramble ramble.
If any of this seems harsh I hope you look for the positive in it. Trust me Im all about the story
Okay Preshow segment. I had a long paragraph written which got erased
So he're what I remember
I think this segment could have worked had Envi's leaving APW been all over the news and rumors board. While I disliked the Terry Marvin retirement storyline (heels "leaving" doesn't work for me because its almost always a trick and its too obvious), I think this should have had some build. Envi is mostly face because of the League and that could have made Talon's statement about it being Envi's night while T4tB wasn't that big a deal actually true.
Black Hand segment, I don't think a production company like APW would have a van, they would have something much larger, plus the Gorilla Position is the key place to take hold of. I think these kind of segments should be funny because of the assloads of trouble the wrestlers would be in. So this didn't work for me either. I think the Sindicate should step in. The thing that's getting to me about tBH is they haven't gotten the heat to be a credible threat. Overdrive's dominant forces are The League and the Sindicate. I understand this is a Meltdown stable but they're stepping into "the big kids playground" pulling a stunt like this will likely either get them associated with the Sindicate or stomped into place. Those are the only two ways where I could see this segment going.
Opening Battle Royal. We written. Im still a fan of summarized results though
I think a little more summery might have made this Battle Royal more fast paced. Commentary did well to sell the characters. I cant really say much because this was a smorgasbord kind of match, no storyline driving it.
Watson and Hades. I didn't feel this one either, because it didn't come across as "a stare down," just a dick measuring contest. A fight should have broke out. Its four segments in and the crowd has not had much to pop about. Just a thought.
Envi's segment did that. It broke the efed wall (something I'm known to do) Could have played up the comedy of it. Rather than it slip from his hands he sets it on his shoulders runs his mouth raises his arms high and oops is slips off his shoulder and into the water. Still, good to see the crowd cheer.
Roberts needed this. After working him on Meltdown (sadly, I was late on the draw) I think this helps get him over as a powerhouse heel, the antithesis of Shadow actually. So good on him. Well written match but where was the after-match stuff?
This segment could have been played up had Watson decked Hades earlier and gotten away with it. Hades (the character) feels like he is trying too hard. Nevertheless, I think the idea of a Watson/Hades feud can do wonders for both returning characters since they both have ties to old APW.
Smith versus Watson is a good return for ole Nick. Sadly I think the face on face aspect should have ended with a handshake between the two after the match. There is a good deal of history between the two we should have seen it played up.
I really feel bad for the character of CJ Gates. The character should push a past their prime storyline which in turn ends with them getting over huge and craving his name deeper into the APW Main Event scene. Gates is a former undisputed champ. He should have cut AJP off and told her off. Faces GET YOUR SHINE!
Jennings, I believe a lot of characters have worked four shows straight. But that's not the point. I mentioned before, a heel leaving is usually an obvious work because the fans don't care, their happy to see them gone. I hope his handler thinks about that as he works this storyline. If he is sticking around then he should twist this to a war on the face management. It has stardom ingredients just needs the right push.
Here's where it could have been pushed. The attack after the match should have been followed up with some mic work. Talk about how Jennings plant to take out every major face. (I can see this working with Gates getting jumped next followed by Gates getting his shine for revenge btw If you want to know more... ask me lol)
The match was good still Im really missing the after-match work guys. Writers sell the characters after the matches, handlers PM your match writers. GET INVOLVED!
Whenever referencing a previous event give a show and date (same goes for Robina Hood)
Johnson's segment should have been A LOT earlier. Like before opening match. Because of what happened earlier he doesn't get over here. I think Level One should answer with an a tirade of trash talk. Then Johnson can get over by retorting with an ass whipping.
Havok's segment caught me off guard. When did the League break up? Trying to ignore recent events this does have a hint of personal in it.
Gates and Hades so far was match of the night. While the format change was weird I liked seeing Gates go over. While this could discredit Hades' as a threat I think the after-match attack made up for it. Could have gotten more heat if he'd his a big move before the stomps. Good to see Watson make the save too. Nice storyline push.
Next scene should have opened with the overdrive title covered in seaweed or something. Like Envi cleaning if off. Play on the evening's earlier event. Good send off scene though.
What happened to the on air take over from the start of the show? Is that what these clips are supposed to be? I know they are but they should have given it that extra "umph" with the 'wraparound' story of them in the production van. Also again, we need dates.
Okay Main Event. The ending was a surprise but I don't think either Havok nor Knox would make a good champion at this point in time. Havok's segment kind of blew him out of the running and Knox have the heat yet. No offense to anyone just my assessment of the characters. I think this gives a decent storyline though. No one SHOULD EVER assume they will win a belt trust me (Evan knows what Im talking about *cough* SHOCKWAVE *cough*) lol
But I think this was another well written match and a good main event. These were two heavy matches that really brought the show to a head.
Okay this final segment... I have something to say about. I didn't leave T4tB feedback, its really hard for me to do so with PPVs. But I did not dig the Terry Marvin/Level One match. Heel on Heel main events at PPVs suck in my opinion. Someone has to pull the face card and give the crowd something to WANT. So this at the end of the show while a head turner was still sort of blasé. Especially after Johnson called Level One out earlier. I don't know if the handler had PMed Lester to say he would or not but if he hadn't he should have because this kind of kills that idea. If he had, then Level One could have come back with some insults and really put himself over as a dominant heel. Now were stuck with tBH over the Sindicate. Just doesn't sit well as a show finish.
I do thank everyone for all the hard work they do and this is not a criticism of you as writers just how I perceived the story that night. Im sure there are better suggestions than what I made but these are just things to think about. Were gearing up for shockwave and so far for Overdrive I feel only two stories - Watson/Hades and a Free Agent Overdrive champion. (BTW this is a good chance to promote APW in multiple feds).
